Sad news: Galit Borg ("The King's Road") was killed in a car accident Galit Borg, who represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1989 as part of the duo "Gili and Galit", passed away this morning at the age of 54, after being involved in a car accident near the village of Daniel in the Shefala. Gili Nathaniel paid tribute to her: "Galit will always be remembered as someone who supported me as a child on the world stage, I will never forget her"
Thanks to this entry and the entry of France where a girl who was even 1 year younger than this boy performed, the rule of being 16 years at least was born. I agree to that rule, but in the same time I cannot deny this song has something. I mean I still remembered the melody of the chorus after all these years, so they did do something right :)
I felt like listening to it again after having the sad news the lead female singer Galit has died in a car accident. It brought back memories of high Hope's for this wonderful duo that were shattered by the horrible performance of the kid who ruined the sing completely. Anyways Thank you for such beautiful memories from the preliminary contest in Israel 💙🇮🇱 Thank you The 80s

What went on here?? 01:07 the bit is WAY to slow. I think by 01:17 they are all cringed out realizing what's really going down.. What is this? Digital metronome broke? Wasn't there a live orchestra? Then 01:55 I hear Gili's voice but he's not singing. I was in Kindergarten back then and morning after everyone said Galit got really furious and frustrated and slapped Gili in the face backstage for singing too fast. There was no Google to verify rumors like that. Now decades later I'm realizing it's not his fault.
In the following contest, when the first song started, the orchestra didn't play, but the backing track kept going. There they realized since somewhere in the early 80's the orchestra was replaced by backing audio and the so-praised "live orchestra" has been just a prop

You think it's a joke because you are an overrated country. For underrated countries like those you mentioned ESC is a great oppurtunity to promote themselves. This is the problem of people from English speaking countries - they are Anglocentric...
The lyrics of this song are practically "pseudo-poetry" - a pretentious word selection by Shaike Paikov with nothing much behind, an attempt to author a Eurovision song, remote from the Yossi Gispan flat style and yet catchy enough to win the local (Israeli) contest even if leaving no chance to win the real, European, one. I'm sure that the lyrics were too Israeli and too Jewish for an international audience and this entry is a cliché by itself with a military-styled choreography. Moreover, I'm sorry to say Gili was out of tune and lacked charisma, Galit was hardly heard.
I guess you gave Yossi Gispan just as a prototype, 'cause except for his family and acquaintances, nobody in Israel knew Yossi Gispan even existed back in the '80s...

Man, I know Terry Wogan wasn't a scholar of the world, but that mispronunciation of "Derech ha'melech" was brutal even for him.
I was just thinking that. I can only think he hadn't heard the song at all before it was performed so didn't know about the "ch" sound.
