      Well a 5/10 is average, so 3/10 is “kinda bad, but not horrible”, which she said these art supplies are. “Horrible” would be a 1/10.

      @@ioncekilledamanwithmyshoe eh, I digress. I see 5/10 as a sort of middle ground, as a way of saying "Not good, but not bad." Which is basically what it's intended to be on most scales.
      1-4 = Not really that good/Bad
      5 = Okay.
      6-10 = Acceptable/Perfect
      I see where you would be coming from with 3 if it was on a scale of 1-5

    We think it's important to note also that, while this impressively skilled artist was able to achieve good results, people new to art can really struggle with economy-grade supplies. We bet that wasn't cheap watercolor paper, either- the paper makes a huge difference! Considering the wealth of good options for paints and brushes that fit even the most modest budget, we would urge anyone to go to the art supply store, ask them what's available for what you want to spend. The artists on our team love a challenge, and we sincerely want you to have the right supplies for your work!

      About those horrible brushes that come with watercolours. I never understood how on earth they could be used until i enrolled in ceramic course. When the mug i made was drying and i wanted to carve it, the little pieces of clay, i just carved off would stick to the inside of the mug. Turns out, these brushes are just perfect for ceramic final touches. It is perfectly soft and hard at the same time so it helps to clean clay dust like no other instrument. So yeah, it is a terrible brush for painting, but perfect for cleaning in sculpting or ceramics!

      Not even like expensive paint matters as much. Scott sava has a video testing winsor and newton paint vs crayola paint, ofc the lightfastness is different but the initial paint looks identical. For watercolour, the paper is the most important part. You just have to learn which of your supplies matters the most and put the most investment into that.

    • @houndgirl7365
      @houndgirl7365 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@SylverScourge I mean it all depends how the paint plays with other colors. Usually blending is easiest with certain mid to higher tier brands. Artist loft is crap hell my paint professor even banished it from being used in class. He showed the why and it's easy to understand. I would get mid tier big tube of white and black then high end smaller tubes that were medium size in colors generally just primary because you can mix and get a nice range and a variation of shades.

    fun fact: adding powdered marble to cheap paint (acrylic paint, idk if it works with other types) makes it look nicer, and it has a similar quality to more pricey paints, making it thicker and smoother, with a matte finish. powdered marble is pretty cheap too, costs about 10 bucks or so for about 4 pounds of the stuff, it makes my art look a whole lot nicer, so I thought this might help someone, happy art-ing!

    Actually, these paints are very very good! You have to dip the paintbrush into water before every dip into the paint. Don’t put water into the water color tablets. Just soak the paintbrush, dip the paintbrush into the tablet, paint, dip into water, and repeat. If the tablet gets really wet then the paint will start to make little globs. If that starts to happen, use a paper towel to take of the top layer of water and continue!

    Are we srsly still stuck in the " It's the materials that make the artist not the skills"
    Materials won’t make a difference, it all depends on how much practice you've got and good you are at working and adapting to different materials, brands etc

    Hi! I just wanted to let you know there is a set of sparkly watercolour paints at the Dollarstore where I live (in BC) and it has like five little things of sparkly watercolour in bronze, gold and champagne for a good price. I highly recommended checking them out because I’ve heard people they say they’re actually really good paints and the cost is low!

    I saw in one art video that instead of buying expensive art supplies, you should instead buy expensive paper (good quality kind of paper) cause the paper you use affects the art supplies you use. Though I think most people already know this.

    I'm not someone talented or experienced in this field, but I think the final product is amazing. The colour is gorgeous. As someone who is absolutely have zero idea about this kind of stuff, I give 8 (maybe 9) out of 10 😆. I had to. Hahahahaha!

    With watercolour in particular, it's best to invest in the paper than the paints. The paints I use (and have been using for almost 4 years now) are about $3 for a set of 18 colours, but the paper is much more expensive. But the paper holds up nicely to multiple layers, and the colours look really good on them too.

    Even as a kid I hated using those brushes & kept adding water cause I thought it might make the paint less “gloppy”

    I had an art professor that said, "There are three main parts to painting: the working surface, the brushes, and the pants. If you must get cheap supplies, only do so for one of these three. Choose carefully."
