    I found a dead one and set out to find a living one. I can't believe I actually found one on the screen two days later in another town. Thank you for the corection ShandelleC!

    Found one last summer in my house around the windowsill. I let it crawl on my hand to keep it out of the way as I opened the window, and it did not hesitate to walk on it and start licking off my sweat. I held my hand out of the window for it to leave and it took nearly a minute. They are bold little things, but quite gentle.

    The color you see is the due to the spectrum of the reflected light. It works that way with everything, not just insects.

    Thanks I’ve just found a lot of these in my compost bin, I left the lid open for an hr. about a month or two ago when I came back I saw a few of the wasps in there, guided them out of the bin and today….. “it’s hatching day”🥳 And after a little research (wanted to make sure I wasn’t putting myself in danger by releasing them) they have been released.

    We live in western NY. We have a wooden retaining wall behind our home. It’s been in disrepair over the past two years due to the constant rain (making the soil behind the wall to constantly stay moist; rotting the wood from the inside out).
    We often see piles of sawdust from the wall on the concrete below the wall - leading right to the pool. It’s a bit disconcerting as we also see large black carpenter ants. Yesterday I saw the ants frantically carrying both small and large larvae (as I must have disrupted a nest).
    Then I saw a bunch of these green cuckoo wasps - like 20-30 flying around - and even more flying right out of the wood as I started to try to take some beams off of the wall. Do the carpenter ants and the cuckoo wasp have some sort of predatory or symbiotic relationship? Just very strange to see two types of insects in the same area. It’s treated lumber and we cannot burn it.
    How would you suggest that we dispose of the wood without just moving our problem to a different area? (If you have any...) We rescue traumatized ex-laboratory beagles and do not want them in any harm (or to us).
    Thank you for this video! After seeing this, I now know what it is and that it has a large stinger. Yikes!! 🙈

      @chrisegnoto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1
