    Reading Don's book at the moment, (Heaven and Hell) an absolute delight from page one onwards....I'm at the part where he just met Glen Frey and Don Henley...it's a fabulous look back in time and he writes just as delightfully as he speaks here.

    I love this guy, pure talent and easy to listen to. I notice that whenever i hear don henley talk about felder there’s a sense of animosity, hostility towards him. Here felder praises Henley for the work he put into hotel california, Henley would never be like that towards felder and just mentions him as if in passing, as if making his contributions to the band less important.

    • @MusicissuperiorEVHROX316

    Don Felder - Legendary guitarist/musician. Hotel California is my favorite song of all time. I probably listen to it more than 10,000 times in my lifetime. Thank you Don for the 'most iconic' guitar intro and riffs, that is known in every country in the world.

    I saw the Eagles in early 1977, Hotel California had just come out , but we hadn’t heard it yet. It was the guys in their prime , Walsh & Felder had so much fun together. Best concert I ever saw, the highlight believe it or not was Randy Meisner singing his tail off on Take It To The Limit. the band harmonies made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. So good. Always though Don was awesome on guitar, and had a cool vibe on stage.

    I love this guy. No Felder, no Eagles as we once knew them, simple as that. The henley eagles these days look like they can't wait to get done with a gig. The Felder Eagles always look like they are having fun. Henley may have the vocals, or use to anyway, but the Felder Eagles has the best guitar player the Eagles ever had, him. And his vocals have gotten better and better over time. I'd go see the Felder Eagles in a heartbeat, but the henley eagles? Why? Felder and Walsh should have NEVER been split up. I just find it hard to forgive henley and frey for their power grab. I listened to some recent henley eagle stuff on youtube and the guitars are just a mess now. Don't even click on them anymore. Sad.

    Don Felder has created some of the most tasteful leads ever and without him, there is no way Eagles would have gone to superstar status. He was to them as George was to the Beatles, providing that signature sound. Too bad Henley and Frey were too vain to admit it and give the guy his due.

    • @darrellpierce9191
      @darrellpierce9191 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it takes one, to know one.... Arsehole that is. You are obviously someone who jumps on memes and general gossip. And from what I've gleaned of Eagels history, Felder wasn't the arsehole....

    • @Deebz270
      @Deebz270 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      *Bob Lawson* - Vain would be the correct spelling - veins are those tubes that distribute blood around your body! (LOL)
      However, I cannot but agree wtih your comment overall. Someone, elsewhere maintained that Glen Frey made The Eagels.... (Doing the usual group mourning bleat - RIP Glen Frey etc...) As we know, if we're being honest, all bands are only as good as the sum of their constituent player/writers. Its all in the chemistry mix; No Bonzo - No Zeppeling, No RVZ - No Skynyrd, No Walters - No Floyd, No Mercury - No Queen, No Ozzy - No Sabbath, No Schenker - No UFO, No Ann or Nancy - No Heart .... etc..
      There are of course exceptions... Purple managed to rattle on without Blackmore.... Genesis did okay for one or two albums without Hacket or Gabriel.... Floyd went on to platinum succes without (thankfully) Syd Barrett and even at least continued with Floydesque music without Walters, even though he was sorely missed by fans. And the Stones just rattled on and on, and on, and on....

    You know something that is occurred to me while watching this video is how nice and what a great guy Don Is and not only that but how articulate intelligent the guy is and how focused is which really explains why you come up with so much stuff we can't keep from liking the guy and from my experience in life I can understand how other men are jealous of him because he is a very handsome guy and I have seen this in my life in sports and in music where others get jealous of people that are extremely talented and good-looking it's just like basic jealousy. So for me it explains a lot of why this man is treated the way he is but I can't keep from respecting him and appreciating all the good that he is done in music my hat is off to you Don.

    I had the opportunity to meet Don Felder several years ago after one of his performances, and I’ll be meeting him again this week at another performance meet-and-greet here in my home town. A true gentleman; so gracious and generous with his time, he agreed to take several pictures with me and my brother, and took the time to chat with us and everyone at the venue. I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years, and while I don’t discount the skill and talent of “shredders”, I must admit they pretty much all sound alike. Tasteful players, however, like Felder, Schon, Clapton, SRV and Rick Vito have always been (and continue to be) the ones I emulate: their playing sings and tells a story, and is not just a blur of scales. If you need further convincing, just do an internet search on all the musical titans who’ve had Don Felder play on their albums.

Have him as a friend that comes to your cook outs or occasionally stops by to show you a new lick or riff he's working on. I think Don Felder would be that kinda guy. Could you imagine Don Henley or Glenn Frey at your back yard BBQ? Frey and Henley really did him dirty.

One of the 'tricks' is to address the bass strings before, or at least in unison with the treble side. This is particularly effective when fingerpicking.

    Hmmm, I never thought about trying to name a sort of genre for this song but " Mexican Reggae", that sounds cool and I'll just go with that to, it fits, it's sort of other things to but genres have to have short catchy names. Gosh , this song , don't even know how to feel about it , heard it so many times in a school cafeteria, radio, still hear it a lot today, great song, fun to play actually. Liked a lot of those Eagle songs, , must have been a hoot to work w Joe Walsh back then, he's like the kid next door. I wonder how the solo stuff got started on that record, like did it develop, become scripted, it must have been improvised at some point, course the song was so huge you actually had to play it like the record I suppose, people expect it, little extrapolations, but not large ones.

      Even Glen & Don in the early days acknowledged he wrote the tune and they did the lyrics ,but later after the fights they changed the story. But Joe said - Make no mistake if not for Don Felder Hotel California would never have happened . Joe Walsh. So I am inclined to believe Felder is the main source.

    • @darrellpierce9191
      @darrellpierce9191 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have followed the Eagles from the very beginning and I have never heard Don or Glenn say anything other than Felder gave them a tape with several guitar riffs and what became Hotel was the one that caught their ears. And, In HOTE, Felder says the same thing. Joe says Felder gave Frey & Henley the descending chords, Frey arranged the entire song, Henley wrote the lyrics and they put it together. When the song was done Joe and Felder collaborated on the great last three or four minutes of guitar bliss. Felder is a great player, but no, he didn't write Hotel. Logically speaking, just look at the body of work for all three as song writers. Frey and Henley blow Felder out of the water.

    If this is the way Don Felder talks, i wonder why anyone would be "angry" with him.
    He just speaks so eloquently and polite, and such a gentleman and class, which is consistent to all interviews i've seen him on TH-cam.
    Don, just not enough said how much a class act you have been.
    And thanks for giving us Hotel California (specifically the tune and melody, bcos i know someone else wrote the lyrics)

      If you ever watch a documentary of the Eagles, you will see and hear him complaining, whining, being a total tool for a long time.. He was not this nice back then... Why do you think they had to get rid of him??? And yes, he went to court and got all his millions.. So I guess he has to be happy now...
      Its all in the documentary to see... No one ever talks about that part..

      @@frandanco6289 Don Felder "explained" the negativity about him in his interview at the Artie Lange talkshow....check it out on TH-cam.
      Ypu can have your opinion on that based on the documentary alone, but that doesn't change my mind (and most other people, based on their comments) on what a class act Don Felder is.
      Perhaps, he had done something that upsets Frey or Henley during those tumultous years, but the other two did worst on him.
      At least he admits it and have been forgiving and much more complimentary on the other two, but not the other way roumd.

    Brilliant and talented man. However, I don’t blame Henley For forcing him out of the band. Felder apparently refused to yield full band leader duties to Henley while other bandmembers gladly excepted Henley’s role as band leader. Most everyone who has played in a band understands how difficult it is to yield full Band) duties to one person. Most people cannot argue the success of the Eagles with Don Henley running the show. Lennon led the Beatles even though Harrison and McCartney were capable. Brian Wilson led the Beach boys until his mental breakdown. Cousin Mike love quickly stepped in not as musical director so to speak…But was very successful in guiding the band through the 70s 80s and 90s keep in the band relevant and successful on the road with fans old and NEW. I think Don Felder is much like Brian Wilson in that they both are very creative and masterful. However, Don Felder and Brian really didn’t have the vision to move their bands forward like Henley and Mike love.

    I am a great fan of Don and the eagles and they created some great tunes and a few classics but IMHO to say Clapton or Page is not to Don's standard is rather stupid to say the least, if these guitarists were that bad or well below the standard of Don Felder why then do so many other great guitarists mention their early influences and in particular refer to Hendrix/Clapton/Page/Beck. One must remember people don't remember the skill level of these guitarist just the music they played and lets be honest these players have left a legacy which I believe cannot be matched or equaled. As one other person commented that different players attract different listeners or followers. In ref to the best guitarist Jeff Beck is without doubt the most gifted player, maybe not the most recognized but a zillion years ahead of anybody..really. in my time I have seen all these guitarist live. Never seen Hendrix live. History will remember Hendrix/ Clapton /Page /Beck as the Guitar gods who changed the music landscape, will Don Felder ex eagles player who never did anything once he left the eagles be held in the same regard? maybe a good guitarist with a few great tunes? This is just my opinion . I also have played guitar for many years and seen the greats in their prime.

    Don Felder didn't like being left out of the decision making process in the Eagles. Henley and Frey made all the decisions because that's how they wanted things. Felder got tired of it and let them know he was tired of it. Joe Walsh and Timothy Schmidt didn't like it either but they also didn't confront Henley and Frey about it the way Felder did. I'm glad he sued them and won his lawsuit against the Eagles. He got around 50 million from what I heard. I'll always love the Eagles because I grew up listening and knowing their music, but I lost a lot of respect for Glenn and Don. They're not really good to any of the ex band members. There was plenty of wealth and money for everyone but they went out of their way to keep ex band members from earning money or benefitting from the Eagles success.

    Really sad its his departure from eagles, but eagles is was and will be eagles with and without felder, there is no doubt the most iconic of the group was hotel california theme, and he had great influence along with joe walsh but it was not the best job like group, it is really worth listening carefully to the last album "the long road out of eden", a really true musical jewel.

      That band was all heart, Henley and Frey were both great voices and great songwriters. Randy Meisner, solid bass playing and the ability to play and sing as high as he did. Bernie Leadon was a fantastic multi instrumentalist. Then there’s Joe Walsh- he could play drunk and wired at the same time and still nail it night after night. Timothy B. was possibly the only man in the world who could not only fill Meisner’s shoes, but pick up where Randy left off.
      Don Felder was as good as any of them, serious competition for Joe, but his forte was writing hooks. When you think of The Eagles, what’s the first song that comes to mind? Bet it’s not “One Of These Nights”. Felder came up with the basic melody and the chord progression (ETA- of “Hotel California”). That’s about 75% of the song.
      Felder is great.
