    I am always in stage 6, but post conventional is impractical to the example, so the most realistic is conventional, which means that the most moral person will be punished by the law regardless of fairness. So it tends to be about how self sacrificing one is and for its own sake, but the delimma most practical answer is that protesting will do nothing, and because I'm trying to become more practical, the answer of being conventional is the most correct, but not the most right.

    Shalom Pak,

    This is a good video because it reinforces the learning material I am studying. One critique of Kholberg's theory of moral development is his research was primarily on upper class white men and boys. Carol Gillian, a student and her mentor critiqued his studies because she argued that there were no women involved and women think differently, focusing on staying connected and interpersonal relationships. The other critique of his theory is he puts too much of an emphasis on justice, while ignoring other values.

But I can tell that the biggest difference between stage 6 and stage 7 is truth . Because universal principles are made for humans but cosmic principles are made for everybody regardless of your specie.

    I still can't evaluate the Heinz dilemma without using Kantian ethics, despite the shortcomings of Kant's theories. We can't very well have everyone breaking into pharmacies. I'm not a fan of the Heinz dilemma for this reason, and for the reason that there must be other options than committing a likely felony. By presenting a finite solution, Kohlberg rigged the game from the get go. There are few dilemmas in life that can only be solved one way.
    Still, I respect his ideas and quality of thought as a researcher.

    According to Kohlberg, however, it would seem that Hitler's level of morality was on par with Gandhi's. They both went against societal norms for what they wholeheartedly believed was morally correct. This video does not highlight any of the problems with completely subjective, individual morality.

      You have to understand the difference between being wrong about someone, and condoning their actions. I do not believe there is a chance that if Gandhi knew that Hitler was trying to commit genocide, he would still have called him "my friend"

    • @jrgenrafn6742
      @jrgenrafn6742 9 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Hitler did not embrace universal ideas about equality, and did not act from a deep empathy for all sentient beings (stage six). He acted from self interest - and in the interest of the Aryan race. Yes; both Gandhi and Hitler "went against societal norms for what they wholeheartedly believed was morally correct" - bot Hitler did so anchored in self-interest (self as national/ethnic), whereas Gandhi (ref HeOf7's comment) potentially would call Hitler a friend - as he might perceive him as a sentient being - and thus as valuable. Stage six acts from deep empathy to all beings - and Hitler (from what we can gather) acted from hatred.

      I would guess Batman is stage 6. a police officer trying to arrest Batman for vigilante justice would be stage 5.

      A police officer trying to arrest Batman would actually be stage 4. Because he is upholding law and order, while Batman irregards the law
