  • Learn how to operate a boom lift!
    This video is designed to help our customers understand the safe operation of a Genie or JLG Boom Lift. The lift in this video is a Genie S-60 (60' boom lift), and the controls are almost identical in the JLG version.
    Operating a boom lift requires training and certification. Please consult the manufacturer's manual and undergo proper training. However, here are some general steps to operate a boom lift:
    Pre-Operation Inspection:
    - Check for visible damage, leaks, or loose parts.
    - Ensure all safety devices and controls are functional.
    - Verify that the lift's maintenance is up to date.
    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
    - Wear appropriate PPE, including a hard hat, safety harness, and high-visibility vest.
    Load Capacity:
    - Determine the weight and capacity of the boom lift, and ensure you don't exceed it.
    Setup:
    - Park the lift on a level surface.
    - Engage the outriggers (if equipped) for stability.
    - Verify the surface can support the weight of the lift and the load.
    Power On:
    - Turn the key to the on position (choose ground control or basket control) and release the red safety stop button
    - Hold the engine start toggle switch to one side and allow the engine to crank up
    Boom Control:
    - Familiarize yourself with the control panel and the different functions
    - Raise and extend the boom from the ground control to the desired height and position using the right-side joystick
    Safe Entry:
    - Enter the platform using the designated access point.
    - Ensure the gate or door is securely closed and latched.
    Operation:
    - Use the controls to maneuver the boom lift.
    - Move slowly and steadily, avoiding sudden movements.
    - Communicate with a spotter on the ground for guidance
    Safety Measures:
    - Keep your entire body inside the platform at all times.
    - Do not lean or reach too far outside the platform.
    - Be aware of overhead obstacles and power lines.
    - Follow all safety protocols and guidelines
    Shutdown:
    - Lower the boom and platform to the ground.
    - Power off the lift according to the manufacturer's instructions.
    Exit Safely:
    - Exit the platform through the designated access point.
    - Ensure the gate or door is securely closed and latched.
    Post-Operation:
    - Perform a post-operation inspection for any damage or issues.
    - Report any problems to maintenance or your supervisor.
    Remember, this is a basic outline, and specific boom lifts may have unique features and controls. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and complete any required training and certification for safe operation.

      @@gearheadzequipmentsales Does that mean all 4 wheels are able to steer and turn or must you always keep the basket in the rear behind the big grey dome unit?

    • @gearheadzequipmentsales
      @gearheadzequipmentsales  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@designertjp-utube only 2 of the wheels turn. You can technically drive the machine with the basket on either side.. but one way will be going backwards. So you'll have to hold down a switch which tells the machine you know you're driving it backwards.

    I use to paint 747, dc10s, dc9,s ... anyway airplanes in these, not unusual to spray a dc9 by myself ,driving and spraying at the same time. Would take a jgl 62 footer behind the tail of 747 up all the way and boom up all the climb the basket and start on the top of the tail. Used 80 footers to change the light bulbs in the ceiling of the hangers.
    This was in the 90s. Fun to watch these videos

    Great video. Will one of these lifts drive down a somewhat steep hill? Need to trim trees which are on level ground at water's edge but to get there is about 36% grade (20 degree angle).

    • @gearheadzequipmentsales
      @gearheadzequipmentsales  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Justin, great question. Yes they will drive on a 45 degree slope. However, to get full functionality out of the boom, you will want to be on level ground once it's time to go up in the air.
      P.S. They are 4WD but i would make sure you have proper traction on the slope before driving down or up it. Any loose dirt or mud could cause a BIG problem.

    Is there a process for proper stabilization since there are no put riggers

    • @gearheadzequipmentsales
      @gearheadzequipmentsales  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the machine has an oscillating axle that automatically stabilizes just like vehicle does off-road. And if it gets on a surface that is to steep then the machine will not allow you to use all the functions. It basically tries to keep you as safe as possible.

    • @gearheadzequipmentsales
      @gearheadzequipmentsales  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Great question!
      For the 60' lift.... you can get about 50' of horizontal reach when the basket is at 25'.
      If you rent a 40' lift, you can get about 30' of horizontal reach when the basket is at 25'

    Is there no need to use the glow plugs before starting? Do they have them on these machines? I just passed my 1a, 3a and 3b but they were all electric machines.

    • @gearheadzequipmentsales
      @gearheadzequipmentsales  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This boom is located in South Carolina and was filmed in the summer so I didn't use them here. We rarely need to use them, but they are on the machines if needed. Electric machines are very similar as I'm sure you know.
      If you can operate electric, you would do great on these Diesels too!

      @jimmyoalfaro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When you’re doing the aerial lift training they teach you to lower it before moving it from one spot to another, as it is the easiest way to tilt it, and if it comes down, you’re coming down with it, which can cause lots of damage to property and it can be fatal
