I just took very fine copper enamel wire and weaved it through the points of a heat sink. I put the flat side of the heat sink upwards and with a small 60W laptop power supply I was able to maintain a glass of water at 50 degrees Celsius. Covering the lid would let it reach 80 Celsius or so. This method also does not get any higher than about 100 to 150 Celsius and therefore cannot catch fire.
