Leave it to the armchair experts who troll on TH-cam to quibble about a live performance this good. Truly "c'est vache." (Thanks, Maitre, for teaching me the meaning of this expression.) If this isn't mastery in the stresses and strains of public performance, what is? H. G. exudes nonchalance and ease--which is admirably in character for Zerbinetta & worth more than scrupulous accuracy. Occasionally there is a certain stridency in the voice, but I'd guess that's mostly due to poor recording quality. Her use of portamento may seem excessive to folks nowadays, but certainly that was early 20th Cent. Viennese style.
beautiful!!! we never hear this way of singing anymore, it seems , since the 1980 early when the earlier generations of real opera voices were either truly retired or in their last "limited appearance" years...after that...wagnerian, or dramatic voices,,,coloraturas, lyrics..all seem so ...well...not as compelling...she s a REAL voice , and a virtuouso as Strauss intended to showcase in the aria. THANK YOU for sharing!
Brava! I had the good fortune of hearing another great Zerbinetta twice - Gruberova in Covent Garden with Janowitz and in Yokohama with Studer and Baltsa (!!) during the visit of the Wien Staatsoper . Unforgettable!

Lovely Gueden! Perhaps this role is a little bit too much for her (she wasn’t a real virtuosa), but nevertheless she manages to create a memorable character with her radiant, silvery soprano.
Beautiful high soprano voice and awesome interpretation.
War sicher nicht ganz ihr Metier , aber grandios wie sie diese Aufgabe meisterte , eine große Könnerin eben ❤️❤️
Absolutely astonishing!🌹
And so much interpretation, less simple decoration - “fierce battle” seems too hard for me.
My favourite soprano!

well I think Gruby's Zerbi is the best ever....
@@LohengrinO I was devastated when she passed on so suddenly shortly after retiring. Life is so unpredictable ...

@@LohengrinO sadly, the greatest artistes pass on after they have given their all to the world. I can immediately think of our goddess La Divina ...
well she died long after she had retired... she had more interests in life as all true geniuses... but I think she died from loneliness and sadness

Couldnt agree more... but she battles so hard here...
