  • Wargaming has be has become quite homogenous in recent years. While historical can be excused for being historical, fantasy gets a pass for being very old literature within our culture. Science Fiction could be far more imaginative.

I've been thinking it'd be neat if you had a setting where earth is on the perifory of space WW2. The aliens don't show up trying to invade, they are just trying to get an edge over each other by any means they can come up with. This can result in human factions fighting for one side or the other, business deals, human mercs headed out to space warzones, human cargo cults worshipping aliens, etc.
All of that would let earth be important enough to have an impact on the wider setting but not so important that there's some flexibility in how various human societies react to this new state of affairs.

Grimdark is not homogenous(even if everyone is out for themselves, welcome to reality), just reality molded around fantasy. The a helpful empire is a bad idea in that humanity will want power for itself and so will other races, an empire isn't built from people who can't conquer. The mind truth is good as an idea but so bland(another hivemind with slightly more wiggle room), because you've cut any idea of games/politics from that race. I've not looked into the universe but it strikes me as a more a less the same as any other universe and ofcourse to those who like that steampunk/scifi/oldwest. It doesn't break any tropes, just not at that point in it's timeline nor will it ever have to reach there. Also superhumans are just better, even the enlightened are enhanced, so yes I take personal offense when people say too much superhuman(superhuman within reason, killable but not easy and so on).

the enlightened aren't superhumans. They have a couple that may be considered. So many games have that grim dark future. Name another game where there is an alien race which isnt conquering and benign? Where the humans aren't key to the story?
Finally another sci-fi wild west game?

@@RazielLordOfSecrets humans are key to the story, hence the factions and the overall setting, it's wild west, not space. It even has Abraham lincoln, so while everything may be viewed from the alien, in the end the humans are what is being observed(you cannot not observe/follow humans because the place it's set in is literally just after civil war mixed with wild west on EARTH). Aliens as a byproduct of being made by human creators are just a certain type of human, hence the most interesting part for people who can see past the basic ideas will be the human race as a whole. And I'd consider people with technological enhancements to be superhuman, one entire faction is made out of energy as well. And final point as I stated before, you cannot have a benign conqueror, that's just not how it works.

@@tarektechmarine8209 the setting is around the watchers, the hex and the order. They started it and they'll end it.
The watchers dont conquer the envelope its a give and take a planet refuses entry aren't forced they are left alone.
You are splitting hairs to prove your point. Someone with a bionic limb is super human? That means most of the imperial guard are super humans.
