You made a lot of solid points. Knives are so much more than just tools. They connect us to family, friends and events. I have knives from both Grandfathers that I saw them use. Every time I see those knives I am transported back to those places and events that are alive in my memory. Beyond me, those knives won't have the same meaning/value unless I can use them with younger generations and share their history. So I'm glad those knives are quality and representative of the era that they lived and have a chance to pass through at least five generations. There is something cool about making a riverside lunch for the Grands with the same knife my Grandfather used to make a riverside lunch for us while Steelhead fishing some 50 years ago. I hope history will repeat 50 years from now.
Absolutely my friend, I remember my grandfather, he’s still around 98 and going strong, great grandfather to my 4 and several others, but I can remember him peeling apples for us right off the trees in his yard, I’ll never forget that stuff!

I am a huge USA knife guy, i've purchased a handful of China blades but they do not do it for me and are something i would never want to pass down to my sons or grandkids. I'm an old school guy from WV and those old timers didn't even like a Case SS blade let alone a China one, they would literally throw it in the trash right in front of you!! You are one of the hardest working guys i know and you go above an beyond to provide for your family so definitely take pride in that, these days that is hard to come by!! I buy, sell and trade knives, only USA old, vintage, some German blades, but. Only high quality blades. No imported blades, and I stay away from Rough Roders completely. GREAT Video.

Now I may have a soft spot for my RR hawkbill that glows in the dark - but I am also one of the fools who laid down the big bucks on eBay for a GEC Viper (snakewood)... the day I got it the limited edition etch came right off getting her thin behind the edge. I couldn't spend that money on a tool so fine, just to keep it blunt and shiny. Talk about colour combinations, I heard a story from William Collins' channel: a customer ordered a knife with black micarta and made a big fuss because William leaves the micarta with a rough finish for grip and comfort. So the handle scales looked more grey-black than black-black and the buyer didn't want the knife any more because it didn't match his look :D

Just look at the fit from scales to bolsters. That is old school stuff there 👍😁. Just watched SMKW's video from 2 weeks ago on new case knives for 2024. Let me just say that case is not what it used to be. JMO The fitment and their refusal to offer knives in what I call "proper steel" and the QC drop is just blah to me. My father, back in the early '90s, would not accept a new trapper mini because the steel was not good anymore (his words). You can't go wrong with a good 1095 knife. You got a new subscriber even if some others drop you. Look forward to more. 👍😁

Well said. I had one RR knife. I was surprised that most of handle material looked like it was painted on with nail polish. I gave it to a friend that didn’t have a knife. Case quality is here and there, but the material used definitely better in every way. Still haven’t gotten my hands on a GEC.

I've two of the tiny rough riders that I enjoy wearing on a dog tag. They are well made for what they are, but I agree with ya. There's a near trash novelty quality to them. The knife in my pocket is always an old Ulster BSA knife or something of the like. I've some Cases I occasionally carry (and will use if needed when I do). There are some channels I follow that I do like, but I typically skip the Rough Rider reviews.
Can't really compare a RR to a case lol,I love the video but I love all knives including RR,I consider case knives just another class of knives man,there's good and bad in all knife brands and I I collect em all

I just don’t spend my money on Chinese filler blades for TH-cam content. I’d much rather save my money and get something worthwhile. Of course the term worthwhile is relative I know, but to me worthwhile is an American or maybe a German blade with nice bone or stag covers and a good carbon steel. Something I’d be proud to show my dad or grandad. Not a RR with two nail nicks, an easy open notch and the worst bone dye job I’ve ever seen… 🤷🏼♂️

Sure, quality over quantity. Case is good for trying out various patters, GEC is completely unavailable to me. I can easily get a Boker Solligen thou. They just don't make many patterns.
Yeah I don’t have a problem with German knives at all, the Hen & Rooster I showed is from Germany and it’s very nice! I’m just not into these cheap, tacky, Chinese blades
I was just getting interested in GEC when the supply seem to dry up. Collector knives was showing several models fairly consistently and then their availability went away and that was that. The aftermarket prices are too high so I wound up with one & just got tired of looking for more. I wish Case made more models in the chrome vanadium. I like it better than their stainless that they call surgical, and enjoy the patina that the CV gets. I find Shepherd Hills a good company to deal with. 👍🏻🇺🇸 I also have no interest in the Chinese product.
