My headcanon is that Pokémon only exist in one country (hence the "national" pokédex). This country is some kind of island and being the only region with Pokémon it sells goods like Mareep wool and Moo-moo Milk with the rest of the world at high price, allowing it to buy whatever it needs (like food from actual animals). It also explains why every region in this country has pristine nature and highly advanced technology, and even free healthcare for pets.

We've seen them eating Pokémon in the anime, specifically Garados and Magikarp sashimi.

@@YuSooKeyin games like Pokémon xd gales of darkness or Pokémon colosseum Pokémon don’t exist in the wild they need to be brought over. So yes this is canon.

In pokemon world there are normal animals too, like fish and normal birds. Maybe there are pigs too. But you know, whats the difference between a pig and a lechonk then? ;)

Don’t worry fauna. Non-Pokémon animals exist in this world too. Lechonk is Lechonk, but if you look in the Paella de Paldea, those appear to just be regular oysters.
People do, in fact, eat Pokémon! You guys have forgotten the Slowpoke tail incident from Gen 2, when Team Rocket was illegally harvesting their tails and selling them.
