As a 90's kid i still remember the effect Preity Zinta had on the nation especially kids and teenagers . She actually changed the tone and look of the Hindi cinema heroine at the turn of millennium. sadly she is still there with respect to her performances. Glad that you mentioned salaam namasthe, her performance is underrated. Yes i would love to see back on OTT or some interesting role.
Another thing, jyothika also over acts in kushi(tamil), bhumika chawla interpretation in telugu is the best one.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui once in an interview said, that they sometimes have to work in loud commercial (bad) films only for monetary reasons. Theatre and cinema(their kind of cinema was considered as the parallel cinema and not a lot of people watched them in theaters) did not bring in a lot of money. So they have to sign big budget films and maybe portray idiotic characters if that's the demand. And as for over acting, I feel it's better to be over acting which can be toned down eventually...than not acting at all..ex Arjun Kapoor 😂

My opinion
Kareena kapoor- she can act but has a tendency to overact. She needs a good director.
Alia bhatt- she is a good actor. But I find her irritating in interviews.
Hrithik roshan- he started as an average actor but reinvented himself into one of the best in the country today.
Aamir khan- terrific actor but gives a bad performance once in a while.
Manoj bajpayee- even his bad performance is better than the whole career of some actors.
Aamir experimented further with Dhoom 3 and Thugs 'coz he wanted to challenge himself with more cringe.

I can add a few more to the list. However, the numbers of his duds are countable. That makes him the best superstar of this era. While others, despite being as talented as Aamir is, failed to keep the good vs bad movie ratio in check.
People's impressions about Alia just changed ever since SSR died. I personally never commit this crime of changing my impression about an actor/actress if someone died and that person is not even related to that incident. Alia is a good actress she has already proved it in (as Jammy says and even i agree) Highway, Dear zindagi, Raazi (her career best) , Udta Punjab, HSKD, BKD (imo). I personally feel Sadak 2 is one bloat in her career where she has otherwise given some good and entertaining films.
Also, I always give a thumbs up/down to films based on its content and performance and not like those immature dudes out there who will dislike simply because of trend or it has a nepo actor/actress in it. (oh ya! This shitty trend also began ever since ssr died.
Oh and btw a small harsh fact from my side IMO -> had ssr been alive and his last film dil bechara released then he would have been surely trolled considering how it’s first poster in 2019 received trolls for copying and that it wasn’t as good as the original film.

I think their impression changed before that, after all the nepotism story started to dominate headlines suddenly everyone started to mock her. It would be fine if people had their own opinions about her as an actor before that but the fact that they all started to attack her after that just shows they can't even think for themselves and use their own brains to evaluate things, but simply parrot whatever some famous faces say and go with the wave is so ridiculous and funny. They watch romantic movies until someone comes and officially criticizes it then suddenly everyone becomes a movie critic and pretends never liked these type of movies, they watched a cinema in which every one was someone's child generation after generation and easily became a superstar because of that until someone officially criticizes it based on this and that then suddenly they all become poor outsiders advocates crying for justice as and attack every actor who has some relationship in movie industry regardless of their work! I don't think such people have the right to criticize others while they themselves are more like a parody of a matured society. They keep copying others without thinking then criticize a cinema which doesn't think for itself and copies! It's like dark comedy.

Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam, Shahrukh in Don 1, Hrithik in Main Prem Ki Deewani Ho, Varun in everything other than October and Badlapur, Shahid in Shandaar, etc.
I agree the most with Alia, indisputably, a natural talent in acting, I cannot get over the last scene in Highway, goosebumps emerged with her convictional dialogue delivery and ladies and gentlemen that was her second movie! You also forgot to mention Raazi!

Love story 2050 was my fav childhood film. It was meant to be light hearted romance with sci fi tadka. It wasn't disaster at all. But yes, the acting of both of them was over the top.
