  • Highlights of an estimated 1200lb Black Marlin fight at Cairns October 2012. After an epic battle on the trace and lots of great jumps the fish won its freedom when the swivel straightened!

    I totally agree with Mr Swain. Why in this age would you want to kill a fish like that? I sportfish and never kill anymore, Hemmingway is history. I would NEVER charter this boat

    Boy if they'd just roll film instead of showing the same clip 84 times in a row, the video would be way shorter, and the end result would be the same. I wouldn't be so proud of my directing and editing if I was the idiot who made up this replay marathon

    The swivel on the windon in the middle of the leader opened up. I was able to get wraps ahead of the swivel and get it behind me, so I decided to not let go of the leader fearing if I let it go we wouldn't get it back. I ended up breaking the leader. Maybe if i had another qualified crew man we would have been ad to get it, maybe not. Thanks for the nice comments:(

    Some facts for the record. The fish was hooked on a circle hook, it wasn't bleeding it was its stomach as mentioned & the fight was about 1 hour long on 130 LB tackle. The deckie did a great job & had all under control. He was pissed that we had tackle failure (swivel) & the fish was so close, It swam away!

    Best leadering I’ve seen. No showboating. Different when your actually trying to catch a fish opposed to wrap a bit and cut off.

    awesome video! you had the leader! its a catch! I just posted a video of a 4 hour battle with my Blue Marlin I fought last week. She was around 500# After 4 hours and blistered hands, 8 leader touches, this fish wasn't tired out! We weren't gonna gaff her and the captain said, you probably wolnt get a good pic without gaffing her or fighting her for another several hours which may kill her anyway. Neither was an option for us. We cut her free. There are some ignorant comments on here! pay no attention to them! tight lines!

    That wasn't blood, it was the Marlin's stomach. Some Marlin, when hooked, dump their stomach and its contents in an attempt to rid themselves of the thing that they last tried to eat and which is causing them the discomfort.

    Having done this first hand before I can see how you keyboard warriors think you know everything. Go back to playing cell phone games or what ever you do please and stop bothering the real educated people. I do however think the gaff man was to blame in this one, not nearly aggressive enough, there were multiple shots that would have made the difference. My 2 cents worth. Awsome work leader man!!!!!!

  • @RikkiTikkiTavi290
    @RikkiTikkiTavi290 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Also you NEVER take more than one wrap on a leader with a fish like that, especially one that green. there are very simple ways to apply pressure to a big leader without risking so much but if you must wrap then one at the most.

    An animal like that should be left alone. I love to fish but there are too few fish like that left just to make people feel big. I'm glad it got away, but it looked fatally injured. This summer I saw a very large blue marlin come clean out of the water, beautiful jump, not like when they're hooked, never saw anything like that. So we continued catching a few tuna and such til our arms ached. The way it's supposed to be.

  • @miguelahorta
    @miguelahorta 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    It was an awesome video. I would have wait until that heavy fish got more tired before trying to pull it closer to the boat, just keeping the line tight and praying that no sharks get around, I would have my stick-man on alert to tag the fish if it gets on range. I would never yank on it so hard. It would take me a day and night, but I'll bring the fish aboard. I feel sorry for this deck-man, now he has to live with that deception for the rest of his life, thinking it over and over what he would have done differently. Good rule of thumb: Lines always tight, but not too tight. That's all.

  • @jeffsmith825

    I'm confused by this. They were gonna gaff and keep that fish? You had leader that's a legal catch of a behemoth black Marlin. What in the world were they trying to do? Gaff a very green grander+ Marlin? That fish would've taken the gaff out of his hands in a split second and you'd have a thrashing beast tossing a metal rod and pointy end at you! Phenomenal fish, well done to the lady angler, not sure what the end was all about. One deckhand and an older man are not gonna subdue that fish, end of story. Also, I HATE snap swivels on big fish offshore. They will open it's just a matter of getting lucky if they don't.
