You did it! I admit it, I squeeled in joy when I saw the thumbnail in my updates and saw Celtic knotwork in resin. I think I hit the button a bit too fast because I don't remember seeing the knot work around the edge lol. I pleasant surprise to me.I'm glad to have inspired you and the piece spoke to you. I, myself, am not a woodworker though I love it. I've not done Celtic knot work but heard from those that have that its complex and does challenge a person. This piece is a true work of art. (your pieces usually are ...but I'm partial to this one ;)
@@RHumphrey This is an absolutely beautiful piece. Congratulations! You just earned yourself a new subscriber 😁 Also, just out of curiosity, how does one go about getting into woodworking and woodturning? I watch so many of these videos and have never really figured out what I want to do for a career (I'm almost 21, got my AA but stopped there), and I've always been very fascinated with different forms of art and creative processes. I love using my hands and don't mind getting dirty. I would love to know how to get into this as a career. Any tips?
There’s an old Native belief that for everything you create, a piece of your soul becomes a part of it. Perhaps that’s why you feel like you are a part of your art pieces? Beautiful bowl...
I have to admit, I actually got chills down my back then my arms and legs at the end result after you completed the burning on the edge... You created a very beautiful piece of art. Functional and gorgeous. Just absolutely amazing! 💗
I don't subscribe to many channels on TH-cam. I tend to gravitate to quality over quantity. When I do subscribe it's because I see the passion each has for what they are doing and their love for it. You are a fine example of that.
Sir, I take my hat off to you. There are very few true craftsman around these days, that’s a great shame. I’m a retired carpenter/shopfitter who delved somewhat into furniture restoration so I do really appreciate your talent. The finished bowl is breathtaking in my opinion, long may you continue to make theses things of beauty👍👏👏👏
The knot represents unity and strength, so therefore your heart and soul was naturally tied to this project and the beauty and detail has shown through.
Absolutely stunning piece!! I would love to purchase a bowl like that. Your passion definitely shows in the beauty of your work. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent!
I've never commented on a video, but I just want you to know how much your videos mean to me. Thanks for all the time you put in, you're giving a lot of people happiness, thanks mate.
Thank you Leatherneck!! Give it a try and you'll become quickly addicted tot he craft... in a very good way, the inner rewards of turning/making are hard to describe, but very worthy.
You've retired from the fast paced world outside into the solace of your workshop. In doing so, you have paced that fast paced world to a pace that it can never match. For there is no match, ever, for the Infinity of inner artistry, as expressed without, in such passion; in such unbelievable workmanship. I'm not a wood worker. Yet, from your tasks, I've drawn life lessons. Thank you. I shall cherish this video; this lesson. God be with you in your labours.
Man im brand new to all this wood carving and resin using and cant wait to start doing projects like this. You say that we inspire you but YOU are inspiring ME to start doing more. Thank you for the vids and you do amazing work! Keep it up and keep them coming!
Thank you for sharing your outstanding craftsmanship. The feeling one gets when you lose yourself in your craft creating a piece of art from concept & watch it come to life before your eyes is the ultimate reward. Keep up the awesome work. 👍 🇺🇸
This product is absolutely amazing! The amount of detail that you so painstakingly put into it is so beautiful. I see the Shekinah Glory of God in this bowl. It is an absolute work of art! You should be very proud of yourself for building this. If you sold this whoever was able to buy it is very lucky. They now have in their collection of Rembrandt. Thank you Mr Humphrey for sharing everything that you do. I am in awe by this bowl!
First time I’ve your work and I must say you’re an incredible artist! I plan to start wood turning so I’ll be on your page often. I too am a Marine and don’t hesitate doing new things. Thank you for sharing your passion.
I have had the honour and privilege of working with Irish bog oak that's thousands of years old and there's a spiritual quality to each piece that can't be put into words. I just know I'm dealing with something truly precious and a lot more besides. The souls of hundreds of departed have probably touched what you are creating and your genius is unparalleled. Keep it up good sir. You have hundreds of subscribers but none of them are on here.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate your words. I can't imagine working with actual Irish bog oak, an honor and privilege indeed. This is a younger wood, but you very well may be right... It remains a very special piece in my collection.
Incredibly fascinating to watch and hear you describe the processes involved in transforming a doubtful piece of lumber into a beautiful work of craftsmanship. Really glad I found your channel. Looking forward to your next piece.
I find the more unexpected effort I put into any project; the more I like the results. I find the “errors” become character statements. Something I learned from my great grandfather while he wood carved. His old Sears Craftsman lathe (about 50 years old) is what I use. When I start getting more confidence and consistency out of my projects I’ll get something bigger and more stable. But, until then your videos and comments keep me in the garage trying new things. Thank you.
I appreciate your comment on many levels, but mostly that you're carrying on a family craft, and using an heirloom tool...wonderful!!! Confidence comes with doing just as you are! Thanks very much!

Now that turned out awesome!! I knew doing a Celtic knot would be hard but you made it look so easy. I guess a lot of that derives from the passion. Thank you for sharing
As an Irishman I'm delighted to see people use celtic knotwork in art, sometimes it can be a little easier to use knots where they don't quite run up to each line. To leave a small gap. This highlights the fact that each section of knot appears to go either over or under the next and would also be useful in wood carving. www.iconspng.com/images/celtic-knot-6-optimized/celtic-knot-6-optimized.jpg
Hello Rod. I think this is your most creative work I've seen to date. You have a terrific imagination. My sister does free hand sketching/doodling and I've asked to to watch this and see if she can overlay a sketch and follow your method of bringing her sketch to life in a bowl of her own. Just amazing and beautiful.
I can deeply relate to your words towards the end of your video. I think, that many artists can, but I notice a difference in my emotional attachment between for example a digital drawing (what can take many hours, too) and working with natural materials. I don't own a lathe any more, but I carve wood and I love to draw on it with my wood burner. There are so many more senses involved next to just seeing your work; the feeling of the wood under your hands, the scent of it... It's an almost meditative work, even if you don't have anything but an exacto knive and a slice of wood. I really love to watch your videos, and I especially enjoy the real-time takes. Wow!!!..Man, that is stunning work!! Just got a jab of the goose bumps such is the stimilus this work has provided. It must be the celtic spirits here in Ireland calling out. Thank you Mr for a wonderful woodturning project, thats just given me a world of ideas for my own shop. Thank you again, man I am pumped. Off to me workshop now. Greetings from the Emerald Isle. Ps...just sub'd & that little bell is set!!
Your passion most _definitely_ shines through... it is a *beautiful* piece that’s an obvious *_labor of love..._* I really dig the pyrography around the rim !! Something I cobbled together that you may (or may not) want to try... at the local _”I’ll buy that for $1”_ type stores you can often find slightly milky, but mostly clear (we want the most transparent possible) bowls with a pronounced rim in various sizes. I’ve amassed a collection of various sizes which I’ve coupled with the airtight (not the cheap spongy stuff) automotive weather stripping, some mildly thick (5mm+) acrylic sheet, several hoses and fittings from my local hardware store (along with Teflon tape and silicon sealant) and (you might see where this is going) a $30 vacuum pump from the internet. Line the rim with the weather strip, cut a round (tho in some cases squares and rectangles help for _”things to attach rubber bands to”)_ of acrylic and epoxy it to the outside bottom of the bowl so it’s airtight, drill a hole through the acrylic and bowl for the hose fittings in the bottom, fit said fittings and hoses, little door-latch hooks can be handy for rubber bands to hold things down (again lots of sili-con-carne) et voila !! A relatively inexpensive vacuum chamber for inlaid/odd shaped/too large for a pressure vessel resin pours !! It is *_remarkable_* how frothy the resin gets when you first start to drop the pressure, so a little back and forth finesse is required to keep things going, but I’ve *_definitely_* noticed a _significant_ difference in the quality of the resin... the lack of teeny-tiny bubbles keeps the color closer to what I initially was going for. Just thought I’d pass that along... it definitely adds a bit of _”The A-Team”_ and _”MacGuyver”_ to my time in the shop !!!
Beautiful work. My fiancée who has been living with some physical ailments for some years now has been asking me to teach her to use a lathe. I’ve decided that your project is the one I’ll use to begin the tutorial. Among other things, she’s of Irish decent and loves Celtic design. I’m certain that your passion and the beautiful work you’ve done here will be the perfect project to give her the confidence to learn and focus - despite her pain. Obviously, we’ll take baby steps, but this will be an exciting goal to work toward. Thanks so much for sharing and for offering your thoughts during the process. -Len
Thank you for sharing that with me, Len! I pray that she finds the relief she seeks through the focus the lathe brings... it's truly an amazing tool in so many ways. Be safe, and thank you again.
Absolutely stunning ! I certainly see that you got passion for what you do, it shines through. Thank you for sharing your creativity. What a talent you got !!! New subscriber, I’m here to stay and look forward to all the new projects. 🥰🙏👏👏👏
I'm a classical composer and I understand your feelings. The pieces you create become a living part of your imagination. It's hard not to let emotions shine through. What an amazing art piece! Thanks for sharing🖤
What a magnificent idea. Surprising you could rout that deep so accurately and surprising you didn't have trapped air at the bottom. Hats off to your patience. I jut caught this and glad I did. Cheers, Lee
Thank you so much! This is a one of a kind, I haven't considered doing another like it, though I've done other knots. I appreciate your interest though!
It doesn’t sound silly to say that your work is similar to a poem. It’s moving and so insanely beautiful. Your talent is absurd, I pray you are paid what you are worth. I know, I could never afford something so beautiful. But it’s worth every cent. You turn something so plainly beautiful into a masterpiece of resin, wood and passion. Combined into the perfect storm. Which always results in a work of art that speaks from your soul into ours. It’s magical. I am so happy I found your channel. I have been binge watching for hours. My poor husband keeps telling me what time it is every 30 minutes. LOL Obviously, I’d rather watch wood turning with Mr. Humphrey than play with his wood 🪵 in the sheets right now.
Your comments about possible problems of failure clearly was Wabi Sabi. Your final comment about how you felt about our experiencing the whole process is clearly about you and your work as commented in the spirt. Thanks. Glad I come across your links.
Celtic knot got my attention. The quality & creativity of your work captivated until the end. Your video style and narration got me to subscribe. Beautiful bowl I’d love to display in my home. ✌️💚
Love the work! I know what you mean about the peace and solace of the workshop, I grew up in my Dad's machine shop where it was his escape. Enjoyed the video very much, thank you :)
Hello ive watched your videos for quite some time. I retired some 14 years ago and after twiddling my thumbs and watching day time tv ( that didn`t last long) i thought what can i do that would challenge me, woodwork came to mind arr those long lost days of joy in the woodwork room at school. who am i kidding i was absolutely rubbish at woodwork and was accused by my woodwork teacher of making the only universal mortice and tenon joint he had ever seen and that i should never be allowed near a piece of wood again in my life. So that settled it woodwork was my challenge. ( Sir was correct it didn`t go well ) then i remembered the very brief time spent turning on the old lathe and thats when the light bulb moment happened, so I bought a new but cheap lathe a full set of chisels brand new for £20 ( yes tip quality ) and set too turning, and I loved it . Since that time i have upgraded my tools and now spend most afternoons in my very small workshop creating a few bowls. Now the reason for my message . I am about to try and do your celtic knot bowl with pyrography .Pray for me Thanks for your informative videos God bless Phil from Somerset England
That's really great, Phil! Congrats on your decision to start turning wood, it's so rewarding on many levels. I hope your celtic knot bowl turned out as planned! Thank you!
What a stunning Bowl!!! It looks beautiful! the wood has such Character! I can say, after getting a better look at the wood, and combined with the broken pieces and the constant tear outs, I would have ditched the wood and chosen another piece to do it in! But you pulled it off and it looks amazing! The Resin just makes the wood burning on the thick rim pop like crazy!!! The color in the center and the "black and White" on the rim, something could be said about the difference and what it represents. Keep making those wonderful projects, I love see the results of your work!!! You have true skill!!!
I gotta say, i watch alot of wood working videos. You are my far my favorite. Yoi strike me as a very genuine and humble man. Keep up the amazing work and videos.
Excellent work. Watched it several times. I loved your comments and feeling about the work that you do. I have watched most of your work. They are all amazing. Take care.
Well... I've watched countless amounts of your videos and I love your work... I hope to get into it sooner or later! It is just such a peaceful time and I love it without ever have doing it before.. and I must say its really your videos that have lead me to loving it... so yes I can say your passion has shown through!! Keep up the great work! Keep on keepin on!
What a beautiful project. I really appreciate you talking the viewer through the ups and downs of your process. Your insight and willingness to share is what inspires me. My husband and I are just beginning our journey with wood turning, and we look forward to learning from you. Thanks again!
i watch a lot of wood turning videos late at night and you’re the first one with a voice over. i really like that. it’s more soothing they just wood and machining sounds
Your work is fabulous! I know nothing about the process, but am an artist and can understand the love that you put into your creations. Oh, my, they are lovely. Thank you for sharing your work with us!
That's was bad ass! I love you vids man me and my great grandfather used to wood work in his basment.hes gone now I'm still here and he had a lathe he had a whole shop but it effected my life when I was a kid because I'm the only grandchild who took after trade work now I'm a welder and I love it rock on man!
I am a craft person and artist and I can get so lost in my work. I can get going and then many hours later I think, Oh I should eat something, and then realized sixteen hours have passed and the sun is coming up, oops. It is what happens when you love your work and put your heart into it. Love your work! I love Celtic knotwork it is lots of my drawings.
that is awesome - i grew up in the maple leaf city - so that wood was of special interest to me. turned out great with the spiritual addition of the celtic knot
I hear you brother. I'm 56 this year and I need a lot of Peace in my life. I work with rocks, rockhounding Everywhere I Go seeing the beauty Beyond the dirt. It takes patience to do what I do weeks for each stage of the process have to wait a month or more to see what came out of the project and if it was what I saw in the beginning. I understand what you do and why.... I also work in metal and wood I do a lot of Foundry work and casting of metals. It fulfills my day a my life and just recently I found someone that really appreciates what I do and it turns out she has an Etsy store and wants to buy my stuff I've never done that before but if it can continue my projects I welcome it. Keep your passion. It brings longevity to our lives.
Find it interesting? Probably the best thing I find on TH-cam! I hope to be a woodturner some fine day, have been watching woodturning videos since last 5 years but things are just not working out for me. It is my passion too :)

I appreciate the tip, and the time you spent passing it on 🙂
This bowl is so very beautiful. And you can see the love you put into it just by looking at the finished product.
Thank you very much!
It's beautiful and inspiring! I shared it with my son in hopes he may make one - thank you for sharing 🤗😊
Thank you very much!
The most beautiful bowl I have ever seen💕🇦🇺💖
Wow, thank you very much!! .😊
Beautiful piece of art.
Thank you!
Absolutely stunning ! I certainly see that you got passion for what you do, it shines through. Thank you for sharing your creativity. What a talent you got !!! New subscriber, I’m here to stay and look forward to all the new projects. 🥰🙏👏👏👏

This is the second time I have watched you make the bowl. I'm a little bit Irish so I love the bowl and your creativity in making it.
turned out beautiful, I was moved.
Thank you Clifford, I appreciate that!
Beautiful, artistic, amazing........................
Thanks very much! 😊
I'm a classical composer and I understand your feelings. The pieces you create become a living part of your imagination. It's hard not to let emotions shine through. What an amazing art piece! Thanks for sharing🖤
This is so cool! I want to get a lathe
Thank you very much!
This is my most favorite of all wood/poxy resin DIY tutorials. I love Celtic Knots second only to Crosses.
Do you sell what you make?
Thank you very much, I appreciate that! I'm in process of setting up an Etsy store. This particular one won't be for sale though 😊
What a magnificent idea. Surprising you could rout that deep so accurately and surprising you didn't have trapped air at the bottom. Hats off to your patience.
I jut caught this and glad I did.
Cheers,
Lee
You sound a bit like an american Alan Rickman!
Beautiful work!
Potter! 🙂 Thank you!
That is absolutely beautiful❤️❤️❤️ Do you sell them? If you do I like to order one 😊
Thank you so much! This is a one of a kind, I haven't considered doing another like it, though I've done other knots. I appreciate your interest though!
I don't know how you ever let these go. Beautiful.
Thanks very much! 😊
What an absolutely beautiful piece 🏴
Much appreciated!
R Humphrey you’re more than welcome sir🏴
Brother you do damn good work, I am subscribing
Thank you Rick, I really appreciate that! And thank you for subscribing too! 😊 I put out new project videos every Friday.
I can Help You "Explain" It.
It's called ETHNIC Pride..
Liked, Shared, AND Subscribed!!
Thank you very much for all three actions! I really appreciate your interest!
Wow. I have nothing more to say.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely stunning. This design links you to craftsmen like you well over a thousand years back. Not surprised you are emotional about it.
Your comments about possible problems of failure clearly was Wabi Sabi. Your final comment about how you felt about our experiencing the whole process is clearly about you and your work as commented in the spirt. Thanks. Glad I come across your links.
Beautiful work, the truth is that it does not fail to impress me his skill and dexterity, to work the wood, the way he does.
If you see your work as a poem then it is the best poem ever written. Thanks for posting.
You are a very fortunate person to be able to do this work. I have for years wished i could do this. Beautiful bowls.
I am about to try and do your celtic knot bowl with pyrography .Pray for me
Thanks for your informative videos God bless
Phil from Somerset England
Thank you, I appreciate that very much!
Brilliant work. Well done.
Now that is a fantastic bowl. over 2 years since you posted the video and its still getting great reviews.

Beautiful. Great idea. Well executed. I like that you likened the creation process to poetry.
Thank you for inspiring
Find it interesting? Probably the best thing I find on TH-cam! I hope to be a woodturner some fine day, have been watching woodturning videos since last 5 years but things are just not working out for me. Mostly because I do not know whether this can be a full time job or not. Don't know when I will finally get my hands on some machines and tools .. sigh! Thank you for sharing your passion R Humphrey! It is my passion too :)
Absolutely brilliant, love watching you work. Even at 69 years of age I feel so proud for you.
You're very kind, thank you!
This is awesome ! Strange how your art can slowly become a part of you and is reflected in ones piece. It is no longer just a bowl or whatever, it is for all intent & purpose part of you. Keep up your craft , Thanks again !
You have such a lovely soothing voice, your work is amazing but the explanation through out is really the cherry on the cake xxx
