I know this is late,but the reason the DMC community hates the Reboot is because the Reboot splits off from the original games in some unfavorable ways.
Dante is more of a B-bag and is more Edgy in a sense and they replaced the more beloved characters. Vergil is a tech expert and has more of a human like fashion but still maintains the Yamato. Kat replaces Lady and Trish,which Lady and Trish were the first set of female characters inside of DMC outside of Lucia and other characters that appeared in games,like Nevan and so on.
The Game's First Release on the PS3 had a lack of a lock-on feature,which is a major issue in these games and can cause frustration in later difficulties of the game,especially modes like Dante Must Die,Gods Must Die along with Hell and Hell.
Sparda was depicted as a slave when we see a bit of an idea of where he's at in Hell,contrasting to what he was in the original games,which was him sacrificing himself and fought against Mundus in Hell for 2000 years and sealed off Hell and Earth with the Yamato and made his legacy as a God among Humans. Which in DMC4,A High Priest named Sanctus worshipped Sparda as a God but secretly Plus he used Dark Magic to revive himself and turned Angelo,Credo and most of his followers into Demons,lying to them about being Angels with his whole "Holier than Thou" ruse. Sanctus wanted to obtain the Devil Sword Sparda and Dante's Blood to fuel their mighty construct,The Savior. The Savior in DMC4 is basically a false god that Sanctus would use to kill demons that he himself unleashed to make it look like he's a God and a Hero to the public eye,posing as a Successor to Sparda. But which Dante with Lady and Trish,and the help of Nero (Who is Vergil's Son.) helped stop Sanctus,Angel and the Savior from destroying Humanity.
Also it basically had a joke that basically was a middle finger to longtime fans,as if brushing off the original Dante,despite the wig supposedly paying homage to the original series.
Oh and Mundus himself in his human form in the Reboot is Kyle Rider,who resembles Lex Luthor rather than being a Giant Stone Statue that takes form in the Human World and resembles an Angel after a transformation,basically. And not to mention the fact that Mundus in Devil May Cry 1 is an Unkillable Being that could only be sealed away on Mallet Island in DMC1,which was an island that where Mundus sent Trish (A woman made to resemble Eva,Dante's Mother in Devil May Cry) to find Dante and invite him to Mallet Island,for Mundus to take out Dante,but it ultimately fails and Dante gives the Devil Sword Sparda to Trish,which was originally the Force Edge,a normal double edge sword with a set of skulls on the edge of the handle with a little spike on the pommel.
in DMC3,Force Edge was fought for by Dante and Vergil and but Vergil,after teaming up with Dante in DMC3 to take out Arkham,who was posing as Sparda,which Dante and Vergil fight over Sparda's Power and the Force Edge,but Vergil ends up losing and falls into Hell. Then we have DMC3 with it's villain,being a partially corrupted human being,named Arkham.
In DMC3,Arkham dressed up as a Jester to give Dante clues inside the Temini-Gru,which was this insanely tall demonic tower filled with all sorts of demons,including the Ice Ridden Guardian of the Tower,Cerberus who respected Dante for his strength and acknowledged his spirit and let himself be used as a weapon for Dante,being the Ice Nunchucks.
Plus we had other demons like Agni and Rudra,which we're talking swords made of Fire and Wind who controlled headless giants to fight Dante in a 2v1. Then we have Beowulf,who was out find and kill Dante,but got blinded in his battle,before encountering Vergil,which Vergil effortlessly killed and got a new weapon as he demonstatrates it's power to us on screen as we see him kick Beowulf into the air do a spinning slash kick before he lands back on the ground in a finesse of power.
Dante and Vergil's Amulets had more of a symbolic meaning to them and were more intricatelly written,being made all the way back in DMC1,which was rougly 4 years before DMC3 came out in 2005,and DMC3 showed us Vergil on screen for the first time. Oh,Dante and Vergil also had a Gold/Silver Amulet Color Scheme going on,and the Amulet when conjoined together acted as a Key to the Human World but was given to humans as a Gift,which Vergil used as a key to the Temini-Gru and some blood from humans while under the influence of Arkham,fought in the Temini-Gru but Vergil and Dante were weakened and Lady arrives,who is the daughter of Arkham and Arkham (As Jester) stabs Lady with her own weapon,which was the final piece of this puzzle as Arkham absorbs all 7 Sins and basically leads to the end game of DMC3.

Now I don't hate the Reboot by any means,in fact it was my first my first ever DMC game and I liked it a good amount,and I still do. In fact,I actually liked the Reboot when I was getting into it and thought it was a pretty cool game!
It's just the whole thing that the original series of DMC did and with how offputting the Reboot felt,it lead to DmC:Devil May Cry being overhated by the Diehard Fans of the DMC Series.
I just realized that in this screenshot, dante is in the same pose as the DMC3 cover art. That's awesome, even more faithful details from this amazing game
