We had a local tournament recently. Someone pushed all the time, the got 10th out of 24. Defensive play won. Two of the top 4 players; one being the winner, played defensively. Defense is the way to go to climb more reliably.
tournaments are pretty small sample sizes to base this on. i think you're generally right that defensive play will payout long term, but yu song keeps getting 4th in hanchans where he doesn't deal in a single time because he can't convert a single hand. some of that is just bad tile flow, it'll happen and you have to take it on the chin, but you do have to win hands at some point
I had the exact same jury experience a couple years back. I had to call every day for I think 2 weeks to see if I needed to go in. It was worse to be on call than if they had just selected me right away! I had to tell my professors/advisors that I might randomly be missing meetings and classes and exams if I got called in, and of course I never had to go in at all. I bet you won't end up needing to go in either, it seems they contact way more people than they need to just to be on the safe side.
The tile flow was definitely telling across lord to chase in that last round. They did and was rewarded with a win. Life isn't fair, and neither is riichi mahjong. 😅
Not sure if it’s just me but jury duty does sound pretty cool. Pretty shitty that you don’t get any kind of compensation for it though considering that if you get chosen for it it’s mandatory.
almost every game i've had in the gold room lately has had at least one master, funny part is they rarely win. I guess that's why they are lurking in the gold room.
I keep loosing for about 30 matches (means I couldn't get first place),and lost about almost 1000 rank points in 3 days. It seems everything went against me, I draw too much dangerous title, every time I Riichi, there's someone chase after me and win with a single wait when I at least have a double wait to win. I can't believe how bad luck I was😂. And to be worse, whenever I was the dealer, there's someone win with haneman, baiman or even 2 yakuman suuankou @____@. I even thought Mahjong soul cheats on me 😅 And today I got my second Yakuman, Daisengen (my first one is suuankou), and take 1st place 5/10 matches. My rank points is still negativeapproximately 500point, but It feels so great to have a yakuman 😊
When I got summoned for Jury Duty they gave me a number to call each day to find out if I had to actually go in. Luckily I never had to go, but my old boss didn't need to know that 😉😂 ez couple days of chilling

Sometimes it's all up to lady luck. Let's hope you get a yakuman soon as counterbalance to that.
