- NFS3 running in Glide mode under Windows 7 x64 on a MacBook Pro.
I went with a fixed camera on this one, was getting a headache from NFS3's dynamic replay cameras @_@ they look like crap on this track anyway.

I played NFS3 as a kid and bought a C5 corvette this summer because it was always my favorite from the game
those were golden times
wish they release these old NFS games on steam, remastered versions or just updated , I would love to buy and replay them.
This was way too much fun when I was a kid.
I still play NFS4: High Stakes which also features "Rocky Pass".
But it is originally a NFS3: Hot Pursuit track.
Man I love these old games.

If only we could combine the better gameplay and physics of the PS1 with the glide 3dfx goodness of PC graphics.
Gotta admit, this game looks really neat for 1998.

That is my favorite route!
back in my day, there was no customization and pursuit breakers, the police in this game and high stakes were hard. I always played this as a kid on my pc
All these instrument background music fit the game much better, compared with today NFS which use songs from real band and artist.

ahhhh, 3dfx... sweet memories. back when the best graphics cards only cost around the same price as a gaming console, not twice as much. and the power of the card would also last you twice as long... thank you so much for this!

They could be able of creating games with the best graphics while still fitting the game onto a disc half the size of what we have today.
Even the newest videocard's cannot beat 3DFX at this game :)
Everyone having trouble with crashes, you need to set this game´s affinity to use only ONE cpu (logical cpu or core) by using "CPU Affinity" software or any other similar software. This game was not designed to use multi core processing at the time ! I went crazy doing research when I tried to play NFS3 again on windows 7. I recommend "nglide" software for 3dfx emulation, it´s simple to use and don´t need any extra tweaking.
+RaterisimoCBA CPU affinity is one of the fixes included in the .sdb file I made for it, among others. People seem to fail at reading instructions :)

Man, I remember having so much fun going back and forth between the policecars to see how many I could get on my tail and "do awesome escapes" from... They should definitely do a remake of Need for Speed 1/2/3 as they have done with Goldeneye and Halo: Combat Evolved.

This is not being run in the "Direct3D Device 1" mode, but in true Glide, aka the way this game meant to look on 3Dfx cards at the time :)
That game was amazing! The music reminds me a lot of stuff...
I'll vouch for this, I have 2 Voodoo 12MB cards in sli, on a old Core 2 Duo running at 3ghz using both windows xp and windows 7, you can nearly any game from today, you should see Fear on my system, COD2, Fear, Half life 2, bascially everything, there are pages dedicated to helping you run these games on old Voodoo and Obsidian 3d cards, very simple stuff. 3DFX had to be bought out because the bascically excelled gaming 20 years into the future in 1 year.
I agree with some of the comments, I wish EA would do an HD, remastered version for the current and next gen consoles.
Hot Pursuit (2010) is a remake of this, in a way.

atkearly1 You don't have to use them. I personally enjoy just turning on some cool music and driving around in Freedrive, gives you that classic NFSy feeling :)
Alex Kiri It is just a shame that you cannot be chased by police in freedrive. If that is available, the game would be turned instantly into a classic.

Well I've made a step by step guide on how -I- made it work, but as I've said - I can't guarantee it will work in the same manner for you.
Try playing around with different compatibility settings in the MS toolkit till it works properly.

I played the game this morning on a Geforce 8600, installed with the help of a patch which makes it compatible with WinXP and Vista, and it didn't look THAT good. Even though I switched to hardware acceleration.
Could anyone of you share a download / torrent link of this game? Really Impatient, nostalgic man child wants it... !!!

Are you trying to say that I cant simply copy it in any random directory and follow the readme file you made? I have to put it in a specific directory? I did it a few times over and followed the readme line by line...

the game chrashes when i press the RACE button and the loading is done. when i moved the files from the cd to the dir one file in the FEDATA dir couldnt be moved. could that be the problem?
pursuits were much funnier in this game than in the 2010 hot pursuits...
this game is like Car Simulator! for if you play 2004 Flight Simulator it's look like same grafhics!

Looks nice. Should be tight on controls.
Reminds me of the switch in Diablo II that made ortogonal playing maze into a perspective plane, if you had the proper acceleration.
"Fastline" racer on the iPhone looks better then this, BTW.

Either you forgot to run the reg file, or your path in it needs to be typed in manually - check that.

Your comment doesn't make any sense. How could EA Canada lose their direction? Is it because we don't use 3Dfx and voodoo cards? Should we be stuck with technology from the 90s?
Also, in case you didn't know, the PS1 versions of the old NFS games ( except for PU) had much better driving physics.

@@ChronoDog Of course, but the roads are just terrible. Too many curves, uphills and downhills... It's so hard to drive and maintain on the right side of the roadway
