I think that at S.O.P a sunday noontime show...jaya and regine still unmarried and lani still on the same network GMA7
      FEW years ago...
Filipino singers putting them in a duets is very unique...and well admired by audiences...the goodness of the pinoy singers esp. Power vocals they give and take in their parts , noone dominate the song and veteran singers mentor's new generation singers...professional singers also undergo vocal coaches as part of their rehearsals and practices before actual blocking and actual performances....

During the 80's-90's Regine pretty much ruled the asian music scene as Lani worked the Las Vegas casino market and Jaya (with her mom Elizabeth) the US concert circuit for the Filipino community. There was no heirarchy, there was no fandom war drama, no politics, they built their own fiefdoms and each respected everyone else. Ahhh, the good ol' days of analog music 😊

It is also worth noting that this was just a Sunday variety show, and that Filipinos grew up listening to high calibre and world class performances and stages. Hence the reason why Filipinos love to sing! Again, just a Sunday variety show.

This was during a Sunday noontime show called SOP. At this point, All three were very well known in the industry - approaching their current legendary status if you will. I don't remember catching this on tv, but then again this was a weekly thing. It may not be known audiences outside of the country at that point, but numbers like these among great singers like Regine, Jaya, and Lani were pretty common.

She has the lengthiest career, but they're best of friends. Lani trained for Classical/operatic singing,if I'm not mistaken. Jaya is the Queen of Soul and her mother is The Queen of Filipino Rock and roll. Thanks!!!

Whats even more amazing is that at that time i dont think in-ears were a thing or even mixing of volumes and things on their mics. Just a piano and their vocals.

  • @thepinoychoppingboard1012
    @thepinoychoppingboard1012 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

This was like an impromptu, they practiced this once on the same day they performed this. They know each other so well that If I may say, they don't need like the usual practice. Imagine if they did practiced this like a normal practice, where you run them few times for a couple of days or sometimes months if it's for a concert.
The piano man, Raul Mitra, is Regine's brother-in-law. Btw, her sister Cacai(wife of Raul) is also a good singer, she is famous too but she settled for a more private life with her family and now Regine's manager.

Wale and Efra, the letter "Y" in Jaya or in the Filipino language in general is pronounced as in the "Y" in yoyo. So it's basically Ja-yeah. But you guys are so cute saying it as Jahjah. So you do you. 😊

There were even times Jaya sold more than Regine esp her debut album which sold 8x platinum and 2nd album, 4x platinum. Lani got bigger than Jaya when the latter did not able to sustain her bankability as a recorded artist and Lani made it more hit concerts which was produced by Crossover in Araneta. Then big names in concert had Lani collaborated with them which Jaya failed in comparison.

@@dbreakingnutz932 People were crazy for Jaya when she first came out because she was so different. But I don't think there were times when she sold more than Regine. Even Lani and Jaya combined couldn't come close to Regine's popularity. Having said that, Jaya is still was bigger than Lani. Lani's "bankability" was only fueled by being part The Trinity, riding of Regine and Jaya. She didn't have more hits, and her biggest songs are not even as popular and as iconic Jaya's least famous hit. And not even one album of Lani made it to the top 45 best-selling albums in the Philippines while Jaya at least have 2. By certain standards, we can say that Lani is a bit of a flop.

Interesting point. I didn't notice that but it's true. Most Pinoy 'transformed' when singing and one of the factor is when we sing, the pronunciation becomes different from how we usually talk. That's all thanks to karaoke/videoke. As you know, most of us don't have the luxury to have a vocal coach or study in music school, so what we do is try to play with our voices to sing ot sound close enough to the original.

That song was written by Michael Masser ( music ) & Linda Creed ( lyrics ) & originally sung by George Benson in 1977 ✌Not Whitney Houston original like the the song from Bodyguard - I Will Always Love You which was orginally sung by Dolly Parton 👍........ Mabuhay from Philippines 🇵🇭

It was taken during the early 2000s, like 2001 or 2002, and they are already established vocal queens. Lani tagged as Asia’s Nightingale, Jaya as the Queen of Soul, and Regine as Asia’s Songbird.

The pianist, RAUL MITRA, is Regine's brother-in-law, her sister/manager's husband. He is one of her musical directors, the other one being Lea Salonga's brother, Gerard Salonga.

There's 2 Sunday live music shows for 2-3hrs every week in 2 major channels called SOP and ASAP. These vocal trinity was always performing together back then decades ago. So imagine how great that was! Dancing/singing/performing is a big thing in the Philippines. 😁

That TV show is SOP with another network (GMA) and yes i watched it because i am a fan of all 3 of them although they did not surpass the GREATNESS of ASAP ever until SOP Stop airing. And all 3 of them moved to ASAP (ABSCBN). NO issue at all just saying I LOVE THEM and their stories. Kudos to both of you! I always watch your videos. 🥰🥰🥰

They are like the queens of particular genres in the Philippines. They are as well dubbed as the Philippines Vocal Trinity.
    Jaya: Asia's Queen of Soul
    Regine: Asia's Songbird
    Lani: Asia's Nightingale
Just incase someone asks, they got their monikers from winning a competition held for Asian countries.
Additionally, Jaya was the first filipino recording artist to chart the US 100 hot billboard. Lani on the other hand has won over Celine Dion from judges' discretion. The mayor of San Francisco officially made August 17 as Lani's Day, as Las Vegas held every 4th of December. However, in terms of influence and popularity, Regine still gets the throne. She is seen as the queen of all divas. She was also offered with several international opportunities yet she chose to stay in our country.
Thank you for reacting to these amazing artists!❤
