In 1981 I was 17 working as a lot attendant after school at the local Chevrolet dealer when an 1980 Beige Mist Corvette was dropped off by a tow truck a foot in front of the back door of our sales office. It was a repo with no keys. Greaaat. After walking around that Corvette for a couple of months and constantly "reminding" our sole mechanic to fit new keys so we could at least move it I finally took matters into my own hands. I just started taking the column apart until I got down to the switch. As I was removing chunks a snarky salesman came by and told me there was an office pool started with whether I'd get it put back together or fired trying! Well, I got a new switch in and to celebrate I took it for a little 90 minute test drive to see if everything was working correctly. I forget who won the office pool but the next week I got "promoted" to work for the lead-assed mechanic I'd been bugging for two months to fix the Corvette. Greaaat....
Gene the mechanic (Gene Star, haha) turned out to be a pretty nice guy after all. I learned a lot and he let me use his tools but I was dirty and exhausted every night and decided college might be a better career path. While I worked there the Corvettes were way out of reach but I got first dibs on a few really rough 2 seaters that were taken in on trade (TR7, MGB, etc.). I'd get them running more or less and hang a For Sale sign on them in the middle of the parking lot at school. I actually made more money flipping those turds than I did as a part time mechanic's "helper".

I bought my husband a 1973 Z-car 20 something years back because he used to have one long ago. It needed breaks, the seat was off the track. It has a nice paint job and the engine purred. There is a plaque on the dash that says only 500 were shipped to the USA. It's a Triumph or Datsun--I forget--GT6. My husband never even drove it. It went right into storage. I would love to get it fixed if it isn't too costly. The worst of it is it appears to have the firewall tore out. We are in our 70s now and probably can't even get in or out of it anymore. 40 years ago I was young and handsome like you are. My dreamcar was exactly a Corvette. Saw a couple of them live when I stayed in Ft.Worth Tx back in '79 - exactly the year of energy crisis. Gasoline went up from some $0.40 to more than $1.10 that one single year while I stayed there. It was just a dream, never would be possible because of import taxes, registration fees and road taxes here.
BOY DOES THAT YELLOW VET BRING BACK MEMORIES! I HAD A 1979 I DID HAVE TILT/ TELESCOPE WHEEL IN IT. DEEP DISH BLACK TURBINE WHEELS. MY LATE DAD ACTUALLY BOUGHT IT FROM ME AND THOUGHT THE MOTOR WAS TO GUTLESS. HE HAD A 383 STROKER TRANSPLANETED!! THAT MAD-UR PUR!!!

I'm a locksmith, I always enjoy when you have to deal with the ignitions and locks. Even when your main tool is the powered rotary pick. I've never had to deal with the old telescoping gm's. I hear they can be a real bugger. The wires and turn signal will pull out more, just got to be careful. Guess I'm talking to the wrong feller.
The way this guy talks is so extremely practical, I just kept envisioning him like at a zoo sticking his fingers in the tiger's pin and the tiger bites off two of his fingers. He pulls his hand out and says, "well, I still have three more fingers. Who really needs five in the first place. There is no pain, but I am probably in shock and about to pass out. I'll see you guys in the next video if I am still alive. Don't forget to like and subscribe"!

~ I always recommend marking the #1 cylinder & firing order rotation direction on the distributor old cap when replacing to a new cap. ~ NOTE: from what I remember about old early 1980's Ford Lincoln Continentals & old early 1980's Ford Mustangs is that they both shared the same distributor cap but with different firing orders & a different #1 position on the distributor, including reverse distributor rotation of each other. So it was easy to confuse a DIY'r having both cars at once, unless you had both the Chilton & the Hayne's manual. One usually mentions something the other doesn't so I tend to keep both manuals available.
My 74 corvette 350 L-82 4 spd. was 239 horse I think. It may have been 250 but I think it was 239. Convertible too. It was pretty fast. I could burn them in all fours and I also blew my friends brand new Pontiac firebird with a 440 something engine. He was bummed. It was a good engine and never gave me any trouble. I'm 44 grew up much the same and yeah computers is definitely the worst thing to happen to cars, made lazy drivers even more so. Lot dumber too

I'm in Waupaca County WI.

Hmm. I was born in Fort Worth in ‘79! Lol

Looking good man. Sad that a feller didn’t get to enjoy his rebuilt rig. Glad it’s getting a new lease on life though.
His voice and twisting a phrase, with finger twists is endearing. Without it he'd just be a boring youtuber trying to start a junk car. Don't get offended but ge's like Jim neighbors playing the dopey Gohmer Pyler vs Jim Neighbors singing opera. This guy is a bit different off camera.
