Any reason for me NOT to go with the My Passport ULTRA? it's a little faster, has usb c / c cable, and SOME rubber feet for traction -- and on sale for Labor Day, 2023... You briefly mentioned it, and I assume you'd have discouraged us from buying it if there were issues.... Also, just LOVE watching your review; very clever graphics when doing timer countdowns... Thanks !
I loved this drive until one day it totally failed. Suddenly not recognised on MacBook Air. Try to isolate the problem by trying different MacBooks, cables and USB ports on the Satechi adaptor. (Note: USB ports were removed from MacBooks about 3 years ago). The massive Australian retailer JB Hi sold hundreds of them and, going by reviews, about 40% failed within 3 years. The rest are no doubt about to fail, so I'd suggest you buy an SSD drive and definitely not Western Digital.
I am experiencing this problem right now! Suddenly, my Time Machine backups to this drive stopped. The drive now states it is read-only and Disc Repair can’t run on it. I tried to erase and reformat, but erase failed. Out of options. What is a dependable HD to use for Time Machine backups on my M2 Mac Mini?
Same. I regret buying WD Passports without reading the reviews. I bought *twice* (!). And all failed. First one in 2019, failed in May 2023. Second I bought in July 2023, finally failed in less than a year in April 2024.
@@juanzamarripa3778 The first one, I used it for works, so it did move here and there, I have protected it with a protective bump case. Then became unreadable. The second one I rarely move it outside of my apartment, only for watching films. But also failed in less than a year of usage. Compare this with HGST Touro 1TB external HDD that I bought in November 2016, it's still working even today. So I sworn not to buy any WD My Passport again
I have bee using WD external HDD for twenty years. I had one MyBook drive and its enclosure became faulty after some years of usage. Other ones seem OK up to now.
I've been using a Passport (1TB) for a while as an external drive connected to my Blu-ray player - to watch downloaded videos on, but it has had multiple issues with its NTFS filing system... To the point where I've (repeatedly) had to format the entire drive, and copy everything I wanted, back on there. It's terribly frustrating. After the most recent time I went through that malarkey I couldn't even access the drive from any other computer, unless I bought some software... Finally managed to format the drive (NTFS again), copy some of the previous content back on, and within a few weeks the problem returned. It seems to me there's a vulnerability to the disc's file management system, and it just isn't as reliable as Western Digital would have you believe. Mine is going out the virtual window: I'm physically destroying it. After that I'm shopping for an alternative means to watch videos on my TV...
llevo media hora intentando llevar archivos a este disco duro y me sale el icono que no se puede, he realizado descargas de pagina y sigue sin funcionar, no es como lo indicas.
What format do I make it so it works with both mac and windows? Is that exfat? Is exfat the one that allows for larger file sizes over 4 gigs? I believe it's different than fat32 which limits to less than 4gb.
How long do these external drives last for? I have WD my passport ~ 3/4years old, use ~ once a fortnight. my passport for windows can easily be reformatted so mac compatible using ExFat correct?
@@UpDive8 are you sure? WD's documentation on their own site says "*Work with Mac and Windows*", and under the description "We provide a downloadable HFS+ driver for Windows 10+ to enable you to read and write to your drive without reformatting". This is for model # WDBA2F0040BBL-WESN
Perfect for backing up and playing games on by the way on a pc. the speed of it surprised me, actually. Because usb3
Just put Rubber Wristband.
Genius!

I’m actually pretty happy with mine, ht he’s I wish mine has rubber feet. So I wouldn’t need it treat it likes it’s so damn fragile. 🤓
@@UpDive8 very helpful; ty.
Hello, how do you know the My passport ultra is faster?
I have 3 of these and love them!!

@@Cyan_Nightingale were you constantly using them? I mean were they powered on at all times? Or did you store them away as archival drives?

love the review. You have a potential to go big on yt!
nice trolling
do you recommend this for storing offline games, and can it run well?
I have bee using WD external HDD for twenty years. I had one MyBook drive and its enclosure became faulty after some years of usage. Other ones seem OK up to now.
So what you’re saying is the 5Volt external hard drives are far more reliable than the MyBook?
Can you partition this drive? I’d want to have half of it for Time Machine and the rest for extra storage

Ordered the 5Tb . Thanks 🙏
Same
@@jaboutt my iPad recognises it but it’s not working properly. Any solution?
i bought the 2 tb version of this ... its new .. but it makes very very very tiny click sounds in between is that okay ?
hmmm that's weird. Mine is really quiet
The emphasis of the tiny is normal, because mine do the same.
Hello, what’s the difference between my passport 5tb and my passport ultra 5tb?
Apparently ultra is a metal casing, besides that everything is the same
you mean iphone X/XS. Great video BTW
This seems so slow? It should be able to do Max 130MBps Read and 120MBps Write.
Thank youuu, very informative.
Thanks Raghad😄
Does your hard drive vibrates?
Sorry missed this. But no, not really? Is it serious for you?
@@UpDive8 I purchased 4tb one . .. . it vibrates some times, that's why I asked

5:01 hello, what cable are you talking about?
How hard wood it be to adjust this to stor and boot games that won't normally fit on my pc?

Think exfat was the one
Yes, you need to format exFAT to use windows and mac.
Tech & Design on YT has a video on how to do that with the WD My Passport 2022

Don't trust them, mine lasted 8 months and lost 100hrs of footage and WD dont warranty lost footage unless pay for data backup from their webshop.
Does anyone know if this will work on Xbox series x?
Straight to the point video!
Thanks for your review!
is it sdd or hdd?
Hdd
reviewer: don't drop it
me: dropping it and losing all my files
Does this also work with Windows also?
Not this particularly one. The windows one is a separate model.
This is specifically for the Mac and is a different colour

Lmfao ik 😂
I love mine only use it for Wii Roms GC Wii and N64 and works perfect unlike these other fake ones what claim to be 1tb when its only 500 🤣
I thought Apple issued a type of passport 😅
Haha yeah it is a very strange name
It's funny that there is no such important information as transfer speed in the copy window.... OS for kids xD
