FYI, no that it matters much but usually the deadbolt goes above the latch set. When you install the other doors , bedrooms etc, they typically are set at a standard height , unless people are extra tall or short, so they all are the same.
You guys are the best! So much fun to see the two of you working together building this project out! Equally fun to see the humour you share! Lots of work but you guys are enjoying it as well.
You may not realize that your background in working with steel, and the precision required to get good results, makes you an excellent carpenter. As time goes on, you will discover that wood is much more forgiving than steel, so your carpenter work will ne excellent!
Nice job again, slowly things come together. Some jobs take more time than you expected. And always when you want something to achieve parts or eqipment brake down. Looking forward to the next
Looks great. Typically the deadbolt goes in the upper hole and the handle goes in the lower. Not sure if there are codes about this. Also, if you are concerned about security, you would want your door to open inward so the door pins are inside. The way you have it, one could easily break into your upstairs from the garage by removing your door pins. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!! We actually had a discussion about this, but in the end we decided to do it that way because the other door in the garage is that way, so they match in a way. :)
Very valid points about the door orientation, plus its more natural to push a door closed to an abusive unwanted person or potential intruder, versus having to lean out to try pull the door closed.
Hi, an ice but maybe too late is adding a transom window above the door to let in more light into the stairwell, rather than framing in and enclosing the space.
Good afternoon from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Nice job on the door frame. You might want to install blocking on the other side of the plywood. Just in case you might to hang anything.
Nice work as always!! Since this is to the garage, I was wondering if you were planning on spray foaming the wall (prevents off-gasses from seeping into the home)?
I think what you are doing is fantastic, BUT, in the UK the I beam would be covered with plasterboard of something fire rated as it goes from your garage into the stairs and is a route to carry heat to aid the spread of fire. This being said I don't know what your local building code requires.
We debated about it for a while, but in the end we thought it would be better to match the other door in the garage, where the handle is on top and the lock below.
We maximized the layout of our land to have as much space as possible, so we have one wall that is not 90 degrees to the rest of the house (the ICF wall), but everything else is square.
Jeez that set-out hurt to watch. If you guys are going to be doing a lot of framing, get yourself a mitre saw, it'll save you about a billion hours and so much messing about. As a general rule, if you can, you build the walls flat on the floor as a single wall, which makes them perfect and means you can nail through the top and bottom plates straight into the studs which is much stronger than nailing at an angle through the stud into the bottom and top plates. You can also set up where your studs are on both plates at the same time which means you don't have to plumb up the studs individually and you know they're going to be flush with the plates. Then you stand the walls up, make sure they're plumb and at 90 degrees to each other and connect them together so they're perfect and then connect them to the existing wall, floor and ceiling. That way, any micro-adjustments you need can easily be made. You should be able to shoot the ramset gun into the ceiling slab, through the steel too btw, you just might need to use a stronger charge than for just concrete. You got there in the end though and your build is awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing you get to the interiors soon!
We definitely need a mitre saw! The reason why we built it in place is because the garage is sloped for drainage, so it was easier to build it in place to make sure all the measurements and setup was correct. In the future, we will definitely build the walls on the ground and raise them up though. :) Thx so much for the tips!!
A tip for door openings. Score the underside of the plate where you're going to cut. Works anywhere, but especially on concrete. Just set your saw to 1/2"
Your face is super overexposed. I think this is a trick to make a complexion look clear because there is no detail. If this is what you are doing then that's your choice but I would suggest that you tone it down a bit. Just overexposed enough to wash out blemishes but not enough to look like a ghost or a kabuki actor.
Thx for the tips! It’s difficult to adjust the lighting to get the right exposure for both up close to the camera, and farther away… so sometimes I just have to roll with it.

Your work is so carefully planned and executed your finished home will be a jewel box.
Thanks so much!! :)

Thank you so much!! :)
So cool and yes you are so right one step at a time step by step no rush. Blessings to both of you
Thank you so much!!

Looking forward to those days!! :) Thank you
I enjoy your vids not only entertaining also informative. Well-done keep up the great work. 😀
Thx so much!!

Thank you so much!!
That's awesome!!! I'm really excited for you guys.
Thank you so much!! :) Hope you guys are doing well
Good job guys! To me working with wood is easier!
Thx so much!!
Nice to see that you got a handle on that.
Thank you!! :)
Another step enclosing your domain/home. Nice
Thanks so much!!
Working together builds lasting bonds keep it up
Thx so much!!

You can always buy security hinges that have non removable pins.

Splendid job you guys a step nearer completion.
I do believe this project is complete already
Thank you so much!!! :)
Hi, an ice but maybe too late is adding a transom window above the door to let in more light into the stairwell, rather than framing in and enclosing the space.
Thanks for the tip!! We need as much storage space as possible so we had to keep some areas enclosed. :)
Love it so much keep it up as always 💘
Thx so much!!
Looks Great. Good Job.
Thank you!!
Looks great 👍Hi from Colorado Springs 😀
Thank you!!
Looks good he’s good with wood as well ❤
Thank you!! :)
If you have trouble with loosing lines on your floor spray clear coat on them it works
Thx for the tip!! :)
Great job well done looking real good
Thanks so much!

Thank you so much!! Appreciate the tip :)
the prettiest eyes on TH-cam are back on the construction site !!!
(No, i'm not talking about you man !!! )
Thank you!!
Dangit! I was thinking y'all were going to install a glass wall. Still a very cool setup though
Lol not here, although that would be cool! :)
Nice work as always!! Since this is to the garage, I was wondering if you were planning on spray foaming the wall (prevents off-gasses from seeping into the home)?
Thank you!! Yes we will eventually insulate the garage. :)
Looking forward to your videos.
Thank you!!
beau boulot . Bisous Toulousain
Merci beaucoup!! :)

Thank you!! We have fire blocking in the wall and we will be framing around it, etc 😊
Where will you run plumbing pipes and electrical?
Through the walls and ceiling :)
I don't understand using wood in this harsh weather . Why not drywall ?
Thinking the same thing. 3mm poly, tuck taped, with spray foam would go a long way in preventing vehicle off-gasses from going places they shouldn't.
We will be installing drywall over everything eventually. :)
Installing plywood as a mounting base for cabinets is smart. “Harsh weather” or not, the plywood will last forever in this area.
Bonjour
Est ce un petit accent français que j’entends mdr
Superbe vidéo merci de vos conseils
Merci beaucoup!!! :)
Will you be installing a HVAC system?
We will be using a heat pump system :)
Nice ass craftsmanship
Thank you!!
👍👍👍
Thanks!!
I would have welded metal studs to the ceiling to keep it true with a Fireproof-thermite-proof ethic...
That's another way of doing it!
Hi be careful with the laser, you risk burning the camera sensor. Congratulations I think the containers are amazing.
Thanks so much!! Will do :)
I would carpet those stairs
We will be doing concrete for the stairs! Stay tuned to see how it works out :)
Nice job but the handle goes on the bottom and the lock on top
We debated about it for a while, but in the end we thought it would be better to match the other door in the garage, where the handle is on top and the lock below.
Was there a reason your walls aren't square?

Safety glasses with all air tools . Not fun 120 psi
You are totally right!!
You need a tool belt.
I've tried to wear one but I usually don't need to have too many things on me, but it's a great thing to have.
Don’t you have a hammer, that’s how we do it without nail guns
Yes we do but it's way faster with the nail gun

Why didn't you not put the door at the top of the stairs you wouldn't had all that built in walls, only my thought's,sorry.
We wanted to keep the area open where the stairs go down :)
Der Eingang zum Wohnbereich ist gut gelungen. Dann wird in Zukunft gewiss nicht mehr soviel Schmutz eingetragen.
As an "older" person, I hope you used doors that were 36" wide.
Yes we did :)
wiw you are beautiful
et oui Monsieur ne peut pas cacher ses origines
Oui c'est ca :)
