If you're comming from a em1mk2 then this would be a great upgrade. I would choose the mark 2 then because the image stabilisation is better and you get all those other features. Big pre for me are those rubber dials. So much easier to use with gloves on. But no i didn't use it on the om-1mk1. I tought having the other camera around would be a great moment for me to send that in for a proper check and clean haha. So I wasn't without a camera at any time. Grt guido
Thank you happy to see you like the video. If you want to see more videos using om system / olympus gear then make sure to subscribe to the channel. Wow you got to play with lots of new toys and then let them go again! That must have been hard. Hmmmm I think I will stick with what I have for now as I’m still getting used to the OM1 I’ve never been one that had to have everything. Did you take it away with you too?
Well it wasn't that hard to give away again. I realy like the new stuf but I also realy like the flexibility of my current kit. If I would mainly photography birds and wildlife then I would be much more interested in the 150-600 but if I bring it with me I would mean that I have to sacrifice other things. I think I would like the camera upgrade myself but I get that you stick with the om-1 it's just a great camera. No I didn't bring any of this stuff with me on the trip. I did bring the 150-400 and used it a lot. Great lens but also a great price tag that I don't knownif I ever can afford unfortunatly. Grt guido
Hi Guido.
Grt guido
Not a fan of the 150-600. The lens size is the best feature of m43. I guess having the option is better than not and at least you get the benefit of shooting through the best part of the lens but I don’t think I would want to hike in with that beast. Great info though and love your photography.
Agree that it is a bit heavy and big for m43 body. But i guess they just made what the marked asked for. And if you compare it to a 1200mm ff lens then this thing is tiny. Don't think its designed for hiking so I agree with you. This is more for the birders who don't walk around much and only take one specific lens for what they want to photograph. Thanks for watching the video and your comment. I apriciate it. Grt guido
I am glad to see OM System has addressed the stiffness of the front and back dials which has never been smooth on my Mark I. I often find myself having to work the dials to loosen them up. The new graduated filter feature sounds interesting. As someone who likes to crop in camera, the one thing I would like to see is more cropping options including a 5:4 aspect ratio and a 65:24 aspect ratio. Hopefully this will come in the next upgrade.
Yeah the dials are just realy smooth now. It's more like my em1x used to be. Ah I never crop in camera I always do it in pst processing. I haven't tried that gnd filter but I'm also looking forward to using it. Hopefully I will have another go at that one soon. Grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater Interesting that you only choose to crop in post. This is a personal thing, but the benefit I see with cropping in camera is you can make compositional decisions based on the specific aspect ratio you have decided best suits the scene and as such you can take more care with your edges and other compositional elements in the image with the chosen crop in view and at the point of capture. The OM System and Olympus cameras don't bin the extra pixels, so they are always there if you decide you made a mistake and think another crop better suits the capture. One thing I always do is shoot both JPEG and RAW together. I want the JPEGs to remind me of my intentions when I shot the image - that is the aspect ratio I chose fo the scene and whether I was seeing it in monochrome, in partial colour or in full colour.
@@oneeyedphotographer I perhaps didn't make it clear. I also crop in post, but I have already determined the aspect ratio I want to use in camera before taking into post. The advantage of doing it in camera in the first instance is I don't need cardboard cutouts to see what the image looks like using different aspect ratios. The facility is there in your camera. This is exactly why I love this feature in modern cameras. I use it so much I would like to see a dial on the camera just to change aspect ratio. But this is me personally. It is horses for courses. If you think you can do without this feature, good for you.
I get what you mean. Never looked at it this way. I don't do it because I'm to lazy to change the settings. But might be interesting to perfect the composition. Grt guido
Lightroom didn't recognise the raw files yet so these are edits from om workspace. Noise reduction was applied with om workspace but they were not downsized. But that being said a certain amount of compression is used when I put them in a video and youtube then does more compression to upload them but when I watch the video myself they look prety accurate. Considering I used iso 10.000 most of the time I was very happy with the results. Grt guido
OMG, he has all the goodies!!! There are a couple very interesting new features in this camera. Did I buy my OM-1 too soon? Looking forward to see the real reviews on TH-cam, now checking out the new 150-600 Lens.
Well unfortunately is don't have all the goodies I had to return them all 😅 yeah some features are definitely interesting. Had no time to test the live gnd filter unfortunately, but that looks interesting, doe me. I don't know if you bought too early. I think everyone has to decide if these new features and upgrades are worth investing in. Don't know when you bought I but there have been discounts over the past months that could have saved you some money. The new camera is the same as the om-1 when it came out if I'm not wrong. So there is a big price difference now between the old and new one. Thnx for watching hope you found the video helpful. Grt guido
Great to see a landscaper review this camera, and I got a first look at the ND Grad function too. I'd be really interested to see how this works in the field and the results it creates - hopefully a RAW file with the Grad applied? If I was still using the OM system as my main tool then this would be the main reason for me considering an upgrade.
Most reviews ideed are by wildlife photographers. Unfortubatly i did not have time to test that gnd filter myself. Hopefull, within a few week, i will get om own mk2 and then I will give it another go. Probably will make a video of it. Thanks for watching Huw. I appreciate your comment! Grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater Thank you sir. One of my niggles with OMS is that they appear to "only" market to wildlife and nature photographers. I remember the days when Damien McGillicuddy was an Ambassador for the brand giving demos on how to capture portraits using the system, Steve Gosling gave talks on landscapes, but now it feels so wildlife heavy. I'd be really interested in how the ND Grad function actually works. We need more people like you pushing this system at landscapers!
I'm also looking forward to testing that gnd filter. Would love to see if it's going to help me. Unfortunately, the csmera js returned to om system, so im going to wait for my own version for a new attempt. Thanks for watching. Grt guido
Uhm, yeah, that must have been a mistake because they were all shot with the om1mk2. Stupid mistake, thanks for bringing it to my attention 🙂 dont think I can change it anymore unfortubatly but i hope everyone will understand that it was a mistake. grt guido
I was ready to trade in my EM5 II and few lenses (ultra wide, std zoom and few primes) for OM1 in March having made my decision to consolidate my gears and keep m4/3 for nature, macro and occasionally birds. Keeping my macro, 40-150 + 1.4x converter. And now I am thinking if I should wait… 😅
I am buying this camera, I also shoot Nikon but the OM-1 I have now does it shoot in 14bit RAW or 12bit? and I think the new camera shoots 14bit now right?
I haven't tried this myself but according to the specs that I got yes new camera shoots 14 bit raw images so that is an improvement. The only problem was that lightroom didnt recognise the files yet so im looking forward to see what i can pull out of these images. Do you already use a om system camera next to your nikon? Grt guido
@alex-reay I just watched a video myself were indeed is mentioned that it's only for the high res shots. I might have misunderstood that sorry. Thanks for noticing and bringing it to my attention!
An upgrade to 25 or 28MP stacked sensor would have been really nice. Also long over do, having the power switch on the right side so that you switch the camera on with just one hand. Sure you can change the func. lever to be the power switch, but then you lose functionality. Nikon has this and the Panasonic G9 1st version did. The G9 II did away with that. I own the E-M1x and the OM1.
At first I was also a bit disappointed that the sensor wasn't upgraded. Knowing that Panasonic had a bigger sensor but that wasn't a back lit sensor so that would probably mean a loss in dynamic range. And when I started thinking of it I prefer the old sensor of 20mp above a loss of dynamic range. A while ago I read that Sony had build a mft sensor with 40 mp so I still have hope for a upgrade in the future. That power switch on the ride side would be nice indeed! I also have that frustration when I forgot to turn it on haha. Thanks fo watching. Grt guido
Hi Guido, I am a little nervous, I can not find nowhere WHAT IS THE WEIGHT of 150-400 TC... with lens hood included? They write literally EVERYWHERE 1,85 kg... but that is without lens hood. Even Olympus doesn't write what is the weight of their lens hood product. I don't understand that. Could you put it on your weight with OM-1 with lens hood on, and tell me that "secret" of the whole gear?
The whole lens including the lens hood weight 2013g. Without the lens hood I weights 1832g so the lens hood weights 175g. The om1 without the grip weights 609 (with tripod plate attayched) so with the lens and lenshood it's 2640g. If you want to add a grip with battery the grip weights 317g incl battery. Hope this solves the mystery 😀 grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater So shame I need to ask about basic things people in private, it's so hard to them to put that information in the description under the product? 🙄🙄 I now they might keep not mentioning to show "how light is their best tele-lens on the market" but that are basic things customers might want to know. Thank you though! A6400 + Sony 200-600 I remember was 3050 g with strap Peak Design attatched. Now with A7IV it's around 3350 g. It's freaking heavy. I made fast calulation and even Nikon Z8 + 400 mm f4.5 + x.2.0 teleconverter is 2,340 grams. That's amazing. I wish sony do light primes for affordable price.
Please pass on a message to OMSystems that those of us that have invested in the OM1 Mark 1 (in my case, two months ago) would appreciate a firmware upgrade that incorporates some of these features.
@@GuidoVanDeWater If nothing else, at least using the trash button to be the menu button instead of the button up on the left side, would be appreciated and should EASILY be doable in a firmware update ;) ;)
I spoke to my contact in the netherlands. He did not know if there were still updates planned or not but he was going to get an answer on that. So if I hear it I will share it somehow 🤞
For me, this has no clear advantage over the Lumix G9 II, and I see no reason to prefer this over my E-M1x. A successor to the latter, I would consider. I don't use GNDs, and the implementation here, from another review, has the same faults in implementation. I do landscapes, 100 megapixels from the G9 II is something I value.
I haven't used the g9ii myself but looking at the specs I think these cameras are pretty similar. The om-1 is a bit more focused on fast shutter speeds and the g9 a little more on video. All in all you just have to use what suits you best. If that is the g9ii then I don't see a reason to switch 🙂 can the g9ii shoot 100mp high res shots? That's a huge image. I also shoot 90 percent landscapes and I often use the high res mode of the om-1 also. It gives great results. Thanks for your comment I apreciate it 🙂 grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater 100 Megapixels hand-held. I like the ability to crop, perhaps a lot, and that's a huge advantage over the E-M1x and later. I'm unsure whether it's an advantage, it share batteries, bodies and battery grips with the S5 II and S5x. The batteries for the G9 ar oh so similar to Canon's LP-E6, the shape so close that a small change would have made them the same, and the pinout's different. I have a lot of batteries for Canon DSLRs. No GPS, but some more computational features from Olympus.
Grt guido
Today is unfortunately not a good day for all who have recently bought an OM-1, the release of the MkII mean nothing more than less or no firmware updates, no improvements on the autofocus - many of us have hoped for. I'm not amused, to say it politely.
I get that you are disappointed on that one. These days it's always a risk when buying new stuff I experienced the same with a phone I bought. Personally I have no problems with the autofocus system on the om-1 but I don't shoot birds or fast moving object a lot so I can't give an honest opinion on that. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that they will do an update 🤞grt guido
Yeah, I've read this too - why bother with a mkii but just release a firmware upgrade for the existing OM-1. I'm guessing that OMS want a flagship camera out there with their name on it - the OM-1 was still branded as Olympus...
The OM-1 MKI seems to be an incredible camera even without the MKII features. Hopefully there will be a firmware update for you. But no tech company can allow itself not to evolve. It’s a good thing you have bought into a brand that evolves.
we could all do a review reading off a lap top screen and getting a free sample . Sorry i would like to see a user review in the field and get a true version from a user not an ambassador.

Big pre for me are those rubber dials. So much easier to use with gloves on. But no i didn't use it on the om-1mk1. I tought having the other camera around would be a great moment for me to send that in for a proper check and clean haha. So I wasn't without a camera at any time. Grt guido
Grt guido
Thank you for sharing your experience using the new OM-1 mark II camera and lens. Beautiful photos too. Big LIKE from me. Greetings from Singapore.
Thank you happy to see you like the video. If you want to see more videos using om system / olympus gear then make sure to subscribe to the channel. Everything I usualy do is on location landscape photography with gear from olympus and om system. Lots of new material comming up 🙂 singapore very nice! Is that a good location for landscape photography? Grt guido
Grt guido
Hi Guido.
Grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater thanks!
I see no advantage to cropping in-camera. I always choose my shape in post production.
If you really need an aid, make come cardboard cutouts to suit.
Grt guido
Some questions:
sample images were raws ?
was noise reduction in postprocessing used, or they were dowsized ?
Lightroom didn't recognise the raw files yet so these are edits from om workspace. Noise reduction was applied with om workspace but they were not downsized. But that being said a certain amount of compression is used when I put them in a video and youtube then does more compression to upload them but when I watch the video myself they look prety accurate. Considering I used iso 10.000 most of the time I was very happy with the results. Grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater Thank You.
Nice video. Look forward to seeing you use it in the field more and compare the ND filters.
I'm also looking forward to testing that gnd filter. Would love to see if it's going to help me. Unfortunately, the csmera js returned to om system, so im going to wait for my own version for a new attempt. Thanks for watching. Grt guido
Just noticed you said towards end all photos in video were taken with the OM1 mark 1 and I’m sure you meant mark 2
Uhm, yeah, that must have been a mistake because they were all shot with the om1mk2. Stupid mistake, thanks for bringing it to my attention 🙂 dont think I can change it anymore unfortubatly but i hope everyone will understand that it was a mistake. grt guido
You can program the trash button to be the menu button instead of the button up on the left side. 🙂
Yeah that's it haven't tried it out myself but I think very handy change🙂 thnx for the comment I alreciate it.
Haha yeah choices... thats always difficult 😅 what do you want to wait for? Grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater wait for OM1 II to be available for more reasonable price 😅
Great overview
Thanks for watching and your comment. Grt guido
Grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater Yes I use the OM-1 with my 150-400 and my Z8 and Z 600 f6.3 PF, Love them both;)
@@GuidoVanDeWaterI thought 14 bit RAW is only for hi-res mode? Is it also for normal 20MP files?
@alex-reay I just watched a video myself were indeed is mentioned that it's only for the high res shots. I might have misunderstood that sorry. Thanks for noticing and bringing it to my attention!
Goed uit gelegd het verschil👌
Dankjewel. Grt guido
nice photos, nice music 🙂
Thank you. The music is from epidemic sound i don't know for sure what song ut was 😅 thanks for watching grt guido
Hoi Guido
Grt guido
Wow..meteen even kijken!😀👍
I don't know if they will listen to me but I will send a screenshot to my contact in the netherlands that's for sure. Thanks for the comment grt guido
@@GuidoVanDeWater many thanks, Guido.
@@huwalbanOM1 is rename by EM1 and it is also announced by om system. The OM1 should under OM system product. It should not flagship. 🤔
Small improvements for a mark II version. No further information about the 50-200/f2.8 and 50-250/f4 is also disappointing.
The OM-1 MKI seems to be an incredible camera even without the MKII features. Hopefully there will be a firmware update for you. But no tech company can allow itself not to evolve. It’s a good thing you have bought into a brand that evolves.
5:59 recognition for "Mens", LOL. We need firmware update. Oh, it is dutch....
