Not just in Ireland... it's pronounced the same in Scottish Gaelic (even though the accent on the.'a' is written differently) and is often said up in the north east and west coasts as well as highlands and islands. It's a shame us Scots aren't as proud of our original language as the Irish are of theirs! You certainly won't hear any Gaelic if you go to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee...

@@mydogdeli well, I asked a few native Irish speakers and they didn't recognise it - one suggested 'slán codlata' which would eb said at bedtime - other than that, nothing - I'm sorry! I guess it must be something old as you suggest or something particular to your grandmother!
