Egypt, The Quest for Eternity - Some silent parts cut out to keep it under ten minutes: nothing too important. One of the best high school bands in the country. Enjoy!
Some of you are way too hard on your band and this show. Give yourself credit for being a part of such an Era with Lassiter. Mr. Watkins, your staff, and fellow students deserve that much. I realize everybody has their own opinion and I respect that. From a former judge and band director, I think your director and the music team were spot on choosing music that didn't necessarily come from the movie, yet making it work. From a guy from the outside looking in, there are so many students, parents, staff, and directors who would change places with you in a heart beat to be a part of such a wonderful show and music program.
Agreed, but I’m not surprised by the comments - being hard on ourselves was kind of the culture of the band there - nothing less than perfection was acceptable, it was very cut throat and competitive.
I was in this, but can’t remember that actual name of the show - someone help me out?! I recognize the fancy runs and the pyramids, but can’t remember the names of the songs either…
I'm very pleased to see all these videos of my high school shows on TH-cam now. I was a senior for this show, and I was never too happy with the way it turned out. Musically, we were a pretty talented group but never managed to deliver a really solid performance - I never got that. I thought the show was an incohesive mess - I'm not a drill guy, so I won't comment, but The Mummy soundtrack is not a lost Goldsmith gem like The Wind and the Lion and wasn't really strong enough...
Cool thanks for posting! This was the coolest show we did (ok so maybe I'm biased because I was in it). Alto saxes were and still are the best-we had the best parts. :)
(cont'd) ...to support a 10 minute show, which is why we slapped together music from Zorro, Russia House and The Mummy and somehow that was Egyptian. Musically I think they were trying to re-create the touchstones of the 1998 show, but it never really meshed for me - the second number was solid, but felt like a refugee from a much better show. Ah well, it was a Lassiter show, and it was still fun! The Rose Bowl was definitely the emphasis that year.
Such an underrated Lassiter show!
