  • How good is the new Airoh Commander?
About a month ago I bought this Airoh Commander and after a number of tests, I am ready to share my opinion about it. Just to let you know that I am not sponsored or supported by Airoh, I bought this helmet with my own money. The exact price that I have paid was 300 euros/ 367$.
It is not cheap, but it has decent quality, and I am happy with what I got. Of course, there are many different brands and models to choose from, some are great, some not so, but to be honest I did not want to spend more money for a few very good reasons.
There are many different opinions on what helmet you should use, street, modular, or dual sport, like this, but this is a personal choice, and it is not the purpose of the video. So, let me finally tell you what I think about it. I will split the video into five different categories:
    1. Price, 2. Quality, 3. Comfort, 4. Functionality and 5. Durability

I have Airoh Aviator Ace for offroad and it's absolutely brilliant, so i tested the Commander for a while and it was a really good dual sport helmet! the only real reason i didn't buy it is that klim krios pro is lighter (but of course more expensive). the Commander felt better than XD4 and Hornet DS, not to mention the mid-range options of other manufacturers, so it punches way above it's price range. one thing that you didn't mention in the review but is probably important for dual sport riders is compatibility with goggles. Commander has a decent size port for googles and you can comfortably wear mid-size goggles without removing the visor, which is a huge plus! i wish it didn't have the sunglasses and was therefore a bit lighter, this is the only con for me personally.

I have had this helmet for about two months and totally agree with Pavlin's review especially the ear spacing for audio being not deep enough and hurting your ears. I had to remove my audio. Secondly, the chin curtain comes loose every time you remove your helmet so glue it in. Thirdly, don't try to remove the lining entirely because you will never get it back in correctly. Lastly, the internal sun visor is very difficult to close and open even after two months of use. Great review Pavlin! 👍🇦🇺🦘🎄☃️🏍️

Excellent review, I have a light grey Airoh commander too. Really comfortable and agree with all the pros and cons. I fitted a Cardo system with the same issue with the speaker locations, it has a small blank to remove on the side to run the cable but it isn't big enough to fit the connector through. Mine also came with side blanking plates so you can remove the visor to allow the use of goggles (another reason for the lip at the back to locate the strap) and a Gopro mount that fits under the blanking plate on the top. Really nice design.

Thanks for your review. I bought my Airoh Commander Carbon this year and I absolutely love it. It's light and comfy and I can wear it easily on long runs. One disappointment in MY helmet was the sunvisor. It was kinda gray(ish), like a dirty car windshield. I hope you know what I mean. In a straight evening low sunlight, it was impossible to see through the sunvisor. I received the new visor as a warranty compensation but, we have wintertime atm. so, I haven't been able to test the new one yet.
But, all in all, absolutely the best helmet for me so far.

I have used the commander for nearly two years now.
    Pros:
-it is very comfortable and suprisingly quiet
-the screen is very aero dynamic. And if you want to go on long high speed transport it is easy to remove.
-I think it is the best looking adventure helmet on the market.
    -Sunvisor
    -Very light
    Cons:
-I got the yellow and black one and after two summer season the yellow color has become very sun bleached. Far beyond the original color. So consider buying it in white or black.
-The space for speakers is out of place and way to small. I had to scan the internet for the smallest speakers i could find and still had to carve into the foam wich i absolutely hate doing on a helmet.
-The outer shell is very uneven with almost no flat surfaces for mounting camera and intercom. It is also bad for high speed tarmac crashes wich can prevent the helmet from properly gliding on the tarmac wich can lead to additional neck trauma. This is why ,for example, the arai x4 is completely round and smooth. It feels like a bit of prize versus safety really.
So will i buy it again? Probably not. The quality you get for the money is tempting but i dont want to carve into my helmet to fit my speakers.
I love the motocross look of the helmet but the uneven outer shell is way too unpractical and safety compromizing and makes it feel like, well a motocross helmet.

Hi Pavlin. I have owned an Airoh TRR helmet for 4 years and when it was new I had the same opinion as you about the fasteners for the lining, and the lining its self. However, I have washed the lining after every use (I use it for trials competition - it gets very sweaty!), probably 100 washes, and the fasteners are still good and the lining has not lost any of its quality. Hopefully your Commander is of the same quality.

I have just received my commander helmet, whilst trying the get the earphones fitted to the correct location despite the fitting points which are not necessarily in the correct place, I had to attempt to removed some addition form from the compressed foam pad and it snapped in half. So be careful when trying to fit the headphones, thankfully you can buy spares, the other thing I noticed is there are no compliance stickers on the helmet which is worrying, still not yet convinced this the correct helmet for me only time will tell

i have the Commander. Helmet mid range but it's has some problem.. The three big problem are: reassembling the sponges is very complicated, if you put on the interphone, the ears hurt and it is necessary to dig the polystyrene, when it is very hot the ventilation is not good, the openings are small.

Got the Klim Krios helmet few months ago. Thinking of changing it out. Its very light, and sits very good. But first is the cap on top isnt very good to Block out the Sun. So think its usless Even to have it. Since you cant ajust it much. Has no build in sun visirs ofc. And i miss that from my cheaper and older Held helmet. And i get more buffering then my old helmet.

I have been using the same helmets for the last 2 months (mixed road and offroad riding) and I am very happy with it. However I agree with all the cons. Especially the way the paddings are made. I had a really hard time when putting my Sena SF4 intercom - I had to remove all the paddings and then put them back. Aligning all the pieces was a bit tricky and required some force :-) Not sure why they made it like that. Anyway it works well now.
    Cheers from Poland!

A good looking helmet but it is flawed when it comes to ventilation. I tend to sweat a lot in this helmet, maybe it doesn't suit my head shape. The two tiny openings in the forehead do nothing for air flow and so I constantly find myself having to open the face shield to let air in along with the chin vents. Speaking of the chin vents, these direct airflow straight into the mouth making it very dry. The speaker cut outs are not deep enough so you will need to shave out the excess. Removing the liners are a pain.
Besides the cons above I have found the helmet to be quiet, very stylish and lightweight.

At the rear base of the helmet- we’re it sticks out is we’re my was impacted ( right on the weight label ) so I’m no scientist 👩‍🔬 but the impact on that one ☝️ point would have a high force going through the helmet ( instead off say the rounder part of the main shell we’re the impact would be dispersed more evenly???. You would assume. Basically I think it was a well built quality helmet, used to get wind noise on one side for some reason ???. Anyway I’m weary 😮‍💨 of helmets with the bottom part of the helmet sticking out now - comes from the motor cross helmets for a neck brace .

Nice helmet, like the look a lot, just hope the visor or brim of the helmet, breaks away in case of a fall, cause if it won't it could cause your neck to "snap" otherwise nice looking helmet & you know even if you need to replace the inner liner its part of things to consider when owning such a helmet, best to simple buy an extra liner in keep it in an air tight container, for future use, because if you buy one when you need one the maker of the helmet might say sorry we discontinued that model so we don't make accessories for it anymore.
    Be wise, be smart. 😜👍

Quick question, new to motorcycles and got this as my first helmet. Where should the ece rating be on this helmet? The E mark on the visor?

It's on a white label attached to the strap. Sometimes it's a bit hidden by the padding, but just search along the strap and you should find it.

IMHO €300 is already an expensive helmet. I thought I was splurging out for an Arai Profile V, which was incidentally the same price. To me mid priced would be Caberg, and cheap would be MT.

I use it for year. Agree with pros and cons. Do not agree with quality and durability. Installing Cardo and fitting speakers required a lot of carving and after removing the interior it never looked feel.like before. I bought it on promo at 250 euro so the price was good for the quality, but I will not buy it again. After 1 year it looks pretty old, worn and used, especially interior.

Here is my one year review:
The only good thing about this helmet looks of it and that a personal preference.
Otherwise terrible helmet, there is to much noise in the is helmet at 120km/h and above. The internal lining of material inferior compared to Shark and other road brands.

Little plastic thing that is holding the visor in locked down position is of very bad design. I had 2 white commanders and both broke before I could even ride it. First helmet just came with that little plastic tip almost broken. I opened and closed the visor 3 times and it broke and didn't seal tightly anymore. Second helmet was good. But as I was trying it on the head for extended period of time if it has any pressure points, I closed the visor and when I tried to open it, it broke again. Poor design. Airoh says they already reinforced that part in new helmets (I think it's the new "progressive" colors, but I'm not sure). I contacted one other owner of white Commander and he said he broke it long ago.
