I have worked with money for years. I can spot a fake a mile away. I had one that came through and the color looked slightly off. It had the features, a watermark, etc. The counterfeit pen tested real and the bill felt right too. I set it to the side, but I still didn't feel right about it. So I checked it again and then a third time. I looked at the watermark and realized it was Abraham Lincoln, well he is on a $5 bill. The watermark should have been Benjamin Franklin. I called the police and the investigator congratulated me on spotting the fake bill. Somehow they had taken real money (a $5 bill) and removed the ink and printed it as a $100 bill. That is why it passed all the tests. If the color hadn't been slightly too light, I wouldn't have noticed it as fake!😳💵💰
It's a lot harder to counterfeit Canadian money. It's plastic, with a transparent window, holograms and texture. Also, most places do not accept $100 bills in cash since at least 10 years.

My apt management doesn't have online payments set up. And I don't have a checking account. So, I withdraw hundred dollar bills to buy a money orders to pay the rent
In Canada you can tell if it's an Authentic bank note by Feel the raised ink on the large number, the shoulders of the large portrait and the words “Bank of Canada” and “Banque du Canada.” Look for transparency through the large window containing a metallic portrait and building.

I always said that I would be so embarrassed if I unknowingly had a fake $100 bill and gave it to someone for payment for something and they told me it was countefeit!!!! My daughter had a few fake bills over the years in her store and unfortunately they were discovered when they made their bank deposits! It was then handled by their corporate offices!
