  • Today on the channel we are doing a complete rebuild on the Delco-Remy generator for the John Deere Model 40 Crawler or Dozer. This one had me stumped for a bit because I was not super attentive when I tore it apart. As a result, you guys get a deep dive into the wiring!!

Note that this generator is shown by figure 13 and is 'Type A' in the manual.

One tip.. paint your parts before installing.. because when it's assembled paint coverage can be a big challenge
It's how they did it at the factory

Dont use chrome sockets with impact driver. Not recommended.

Curious where you got your parts. I'm going to be starting on this project for my tractor. Thanks!

Are you working on a Deere?

@@dieseJL Yes, it's a John Deere MT and earlier version of your 40C mine the tractor version though.

I got my parts from Lavoy on JDcrawlers.com, he would have stuff for you too.
Other than that there’s a lot of sources online, I wouldn’t hesitate to order from somewhere like Steiner or tractor house too.

@@dieseJL thanks for the suggestions! I looked briefly at steiners but most of their stuff was for 12v conversions. Thanks again!

They can be bad even if it motors. I have a Delco Remy generator that motors fine and slows down when power is put the the field but it will not put out more then .25 of a volt. I have generator out of a 56 Lincoln my father had years ago and it puts out over 12 volts with just a spin by hand. That generator has never been rebuilt.

Just a suggestion but it would be better if you spoke to your listeners rather that each other or to yourself. You tend to mumble. Thanks

Yeah projects like that take me 10 hours because I’m not fluent in them so really all you get is random clips which contain jumbled thoughts 🤣
