  • VOTE FOR LORD OF THE LOST FOR EUROVISION!
    www.eurovision...
    Voting is open to all German residents, and you can vote once per IP address, meaning you can vote from each of your different devices. Voting ends on March 3rd when the preliminary show starts, which you can then call or text in your vote up to 20 times.
    Vocalist/Producer Chris Harms from Lord of the Lost returns to the podcast for a second time fresh off of a #1 album in Germany, and while preparing the band for the German preliminary show for Eurovision. We spent some time catching up and just talking about random things like learning languages, going to shows, growing up with older technology and being nostalgic about music and TV shows, He also shared the band's experience touring with Iron Maiden and how they look forward to doing it again, talked about the unique marketing for their album "Blood and Glitter", and walked me through the process of how they will compete for the Eurovision Song Contest.

      I really love that about him as well. Lord of the Lost isn't really my thing, I can't even say anything bad about them, they're a good band, just not my favorite. But nonetheless, I've seen countless interviews with them, preferably German ones, because I just like Chris' way with words!

    I'm such a bad german. I didn't even know eurovision was going on, let alone that they are auditioning. Voted immediatly. Maybe I'll actually watch the preliminary thing.
    Also as a LGBTQI+ Metal Head and Goth Kid I loved the Blood and Glitter video. Gave me drag show vibes. A lot of times when people from outside that scene try that aesthetic it doesn't go well. They nailed it.

      @@epiendless1128 The jury screwed them, placing them 5th, but the televote gave them a whopping 146 points, more than all but 1 of the other competiters combined. Fun fact, the only member of the jury to give them maxiumum points was someone who was in the nu metal band, Blind Channel, who represented Finland in Eurovision in 2021, coming 6th. It was nailbiting stuff. There was only 1 outcome though, they were the only act that was flawless, had tons of personality & a great song.

      @@angelaburrow8114 I don't think it was Joel or Blind Channel themselves who gave the points. Joel only announced the points of the Finnish jury. Maybe they were part of the jury, but not them alone.

    Randomly discovered Lord of the Lost on TH-cam about two years ago after they popped up on the "watch next" after another video I watched with their M'era Luna gig from 2018. And since then they are one of the bands I listen to the most. Instantly hooked... and I've gotten a few friends hooked on em as well 🤣.
    Just wish they would come to southern Sweden some time.
    Also, if they win(and lets hope they do) the german Eurovision preliminaries I think they may have a pretty good shot of winning the whole thing. Why? Because all of a sudden there are a whole lot of people across Europe who would not normally watch Eurovision that will suddenly do that, and vote. It worked for Lordii back in who the fuck knows when... mid 2000s or some such. And yeh, maybe I'll also watch Eurovision for the first time since Lordii was there 😂.
    //Oh yeah, and the new album has been going on repeat lately 😁

  • @Trylen
    @Trylen ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I found Lord of the Lost with Loreley, which I made a wise crack about how it's a staple of Goth bands to have one song by that name. It was Raining Stars that hooked me. Funny that it took me a bit to realize it was the same band. There is just something about Germany for music and thankfully I don't need subtitles for this music. I did start with Rammstien, then Oomph! and then Feuershwanz and I'm slowly picking up on some of it. Heck, I'm Canadian and don't speak French then I moved to the US and no Spanish either. I know some Latin and bit more German.
    Now I have one beef with Chris. He did not introduce either cat. Cheers to that! (Oh and my Mother is British so I understand)

      Lord of the Lost did a cover of Children of the Damned and in the first 20 seconds of the video, you can see Chris tumble over a riser. He later told that due to adrenaline it did not hurt at this moment. He only checked if he has still all his teeth and moved on. After a few days, he put a pic on FB and Insta, where you can see his leg in colorful bruises. But yeah, he was lucky, no broken bones.

    Such sweet cats, a little bit distracting, but nice to see some parrot cats. 😉 Thanks for all the informations about Spotify and how an album release works. Never heard of it. And yes, tracks are often very important for the sound of some bands and for me it's totally okay, that they use it. At the same time, I just love it, when bands improvise spontaneously on stage. Like Die Ärzte. It's sooo much fun.
    I watched the preliminary yesterday, and I'm happy that LOTL did it. The other great band from the preliminary was Lonely Spring with Misfit. Really nice Punkrock from the good old 2000th times...

Worked several of their gigs over the years as FOH security and they're one of the best live acts I've seen. Them, Pendulum and Prodigy are the three dance acts for me that feel like rock bands that just happen to make dance music. RIP Maxi.. truly humble gent and a pleasure to interact with.

    I found the discussion on how to release an album sooo interesting. I usually buy an album if I really like the pre-release singles, but through your discussion I noticed that I haven't done that as much as I used to in the last year. I also don't listen to whole albums as often anymore because I always feel like I've already heard the whole thing as soon as it's released.
    As a prime example, I immediately had to think of the record that Memphis May Fire released last year. I think over the course of a year they pre-released all but 1 or 2 songs from the album as singles. I loved the first few singles and listened to them over and over until I couldn't listen to them anymore, and the more singles came out, the more I lost interest over time. In the end I only listened to the whole album once and didn't buy it after that because the air was already out of the balloon. I wonder if the album was actually a success or not.
    I'm really happy for Lord of the Lost now that their release was such a success. I hope this makes labels and bands rethink their current release practices at least a little bit, because I really want to support bands by buying their records. But if I forget about an album before it's even released because I've heard 75% of it beforehand, that doesn't help me or the band.
    Thanks Tank for this discussion! I think it is important to explore these topics and therefore I hope you will talk more about them in the future. Keep it up!

    • @Siobhan_OLaoghaire
      @Siobhan_OLaoghaire ปีที่แล้ว

      @sebomba It's interesting how you say that about not caring about the album because the singles filled your appetite. It is the opposite with me. I find that I *need* to have the whole album even if I have already heard and enjoyed 75% of the album as singles. If I have enjoyed a portion of the album then I am dying to know what that last sliver I haven't heard contains. Maybe my next favorite song is there. And I love it when I listen to an album multiple times. You hear so many nuances that you may not have heard in previous listenings. Eventually, if good, the album becomes like a conversation with an old friend. This is how LOTL albums have become to me.

    I suppose I should watch the entire interview, then post once, but I'm breaking it up and watching piecemeal when I have time. So, my comments will be the same. :) That's interesting what you said about Nashville. I was at the same Lorna Shore concert you were, and it was my first show in Nashville (I recently moved to the general area), and I couldn't believe how low energy the crowd was when LS came on. So, really interesting to hear your take on why, I never considered that it was because there is *so* much music in that city that it's different from other smaller cities where any concert coming through is a big deal

  • @sayuri5167

    Switzerland is even way smaller than Germany and we have so many different dialects where you don‘t even understand each other. Even within different cantons (thats like the states in America or Bundesländer in Germany) there are different dialects. For example myself grew up in the north of the canton Bern and there are words and terms I completely don‘t understand that they are using in the west of the canton Bern - and that‘s only a few kilometers away from each other.
    And it‘s true that Swiss-German and Austrian-German are different in certain points. Like compared to Germans we never use the first past tense when we speak.

    Packing 16 hrs in advance - that would be too early for me, I couldn't focus on an upcoming journey that far ahead in time. 30-45 mins before I need to leave home is when I usually do my packing. Yes I travel light, very light, mostly just a carry-on bag or a small backpack.

You can vote on Saturday, May 13, 2023, because for the first time, viewers who are not from the participating countries can also vote. From now on, their votes will be added as a so-called "rest of the world" vote or 38th audience vote - which means that the audience vote, with just under 50.6 percent, has slightly more voting power than the jury vote, because there is no jury representation from non-participating countries.

    This was like listening in on a conversation between two new friends!
    Tank, if you want to get an idea of the level of superstar Robbie Williams was, here's a link.
    And no, that isn't a festival, they were all there to see him. 3 nights in a row, with a total of 375.000 people.

    I've always thought that Eurovision is not interesting for Americans. Nice to see one of them in your Podcast. Or on your YT Channel. And i didn't know Lord of the Lost. But how can you know every Metal Band.. living in Austria. I guess most of the Nightwish Fans do know that there is no Orchester behind the Curtain or Stage. LOL.

    Great interview and I love that LotL will represent us in Liverpool. I think the biggest mistake with the American Song Contest is that it's all about the USA. It feels like stereotypical behavior. The goal of the Song Contest has always been to bring together different countries and cultures. Many also think that it is a purely European contest. But that's not quite true. Any country that is a member of the European Broadcast Union can participate in the contest. In addition, there are countries outside Europe that have been supporting the contest for many years. This is the reason why Australia, for example, can participate. It is 7 am on a Sunday in Australia when the Song Contest takes place in Europe and for so many years there have been huge ESC parties in the country. And that's the point I want to make. The American Song Contest would be an American Song Contest if the USA would compete against other countries in North- and South America. That would bring together all the different countries, cultures and styles of music. You would find everything in this contest, from newcomers to big stars in the respective countries. That would be a contest I would watch.

    One of my favourite insults is Pappnase (literally paper/cardboard nose) for a stupid, naive person. It's rather mild and people wouldn't really get offended.

      Meschugge is commonly used in German! Actually used it just yesterday and thought about how interesting languages are. There's actually a lot of jiddish words that are also part of German vocabulary. Like Schlamassel and Macke.

    Tank Poor assessment that all old Metal dudes hate tracks cause they don’t understand how they work.
    So your in the camp that says hey the drummer was fired so here’s his drum tracks on a laptop on a stool where the kit used to be
    Or like White Wizzard who when I saw them, they don’t have a bass player but they do have a laptop where’s the Bass player should be n they run a bass track
    That’s lame
    Having some string piece on track cause u have one tune that’s got orchestration (like the goo goo dolls) no one expects an orchestra
    Seeing two guys with guitars play n a full band sound comes out (cherub) is like lame
    Pay $ to listen to 1/2 the cd is “live”
    Take the term Live out n just call it a performance n that solves most of it

    • @TankTheTech
      @TankTheTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay, so let's take a band like Powerwolf. Or any band with no bass player, for that matter, cause there's a lot of them nowadays. One of those guitarists has recorded those tracks in the studio. It's not programmed, just for whatever reason they don't want a live bass player in the band and use the tracks that the guitarist has laid down live. How is that an issue?

    • @JoelligerentTV
      @JoelligerentTV ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TankTheTech it’s not unless they call it “live”….stop selling tickets for a “live” performance n call it what it is…a performance. That’s my point
      Obviously an orchestra played the part but u don’t need an orchestra
      EVH played almost all if not all bass on VH records. Y did they put Michael Anthony on stage? Y didn’t they just run a bass tape thennn
      I am your age n this though that all Old Metal dudes don’t get it is a load a crap n condescending like the old dudes shitting in track bands
      Wolfgang played ever instrument on his 2 albums n he should then go out n play/sing n then have the bass drums n 2nd guitar on a track? U would go pay to see that “live” Performance?
      Where does it stop ? Does Wolfgang just put the cd on n lip sync the whole thing
      It’s a slippery slope as my 2nd amendment friends say
      So it starts a bass track then fuck it and before u know it it’s all on a cd n everyone thinks oh boy they r great but you paid 100$ to hear the cd in your car
      Don’t be condescending like the gatekeepers you besmirch
      I’m your age n not some old Metallica fan from ‘85 bitching about tracks
      Those of us who go to “live” shows who feel cheated what watching 3/4 to 1/2 a band produce a full sound scape are ok to not like it n feel cheated n last time I checked were free to have a that opinion…it doesn’t mean we are all old gatekeeper Metal dudes. Stop generalizing.
      You’re a smart guy
