It's fun for both myself and the artists, too. It feels like we can just sit down and be open rather than doing another interview.

Some artists get into their stage personas for interviews and Q&A panels. I've done tech and security on conventions and got to meet a lot of artists away from the stage, behind the stage, during rehearsal, during shows, and during interviews and Q&As. Some artists don't change personality, some do dramatically.
These podcasts feel like talking "behind the stage" or "off the clock" between equals, not between artist and fan or employer and employee. And i love that!

My 7 year old son's favourite thing to do is listen to a new (to him) Sabaton song, and then learn about whatever it is the song is based on. He goes down these truly amazing historical rabbit holes learning about obscure historical events. At 7 he probably knows more about military history than most adults. And he's got great taste in music to boot. It's awesome! Thanks, Sabaton!

I really like this new format and I hope we'll get a lot more in the future!
The only common point between Evanescence and Nightwish is the fact that both bands have a woman as a lead signer. Although I don't listen to them any more, I'll always be grateful for Evanescence's existence. They are the reason I listen to metal right now, without them I have no idea what I would be listening to. Nobody around me listens to metal so I had to make my way around the gendre my myself. I've heard of Nightwish first on a French Evanescence message board back in 2005. I feel old now... ^^' We need bands like this, that maybe cater to a broader audience but can also be a gateway into metal music.
I've always found ridiculous when I heard people saying Sabaton is a pro-Nazi band. They would never have written songs like The Final Solution or The Rise of Evil if they were.
The War to End All Wars is a really great album, I don't usually listen to Sabaton a lot but I've listen to this album at least once per day since its release. It's so good, it's still Sabaton but with something more. I can't wait to see them again on stage... in a year. XD

  • @jasonbayles6261

So who will be the next Sabaton member to be on " the back lounge"?
They are a great band, and having seen them at 5 different shows, not once did I see a bad show. They have fun on the stage, fun with crowd, the crowd starts singing Swedish Pagans and Joakim gets worked up, Tommy will start doing the intro to it Joakim yells at him, and they end up doing the song at some point when Joakim gives in, it's comical. When I see them open for Nightwish in Silver Springs MD, Marko had a cardboard tank over him as he crawled across the stage during Panzer Battalion... Joakim after the song was like " did you all see a tank go by here?"

Dude, I MET that guy ( Joakim), hung out with him for about 20 minutes after the show in Houston, That guy is seriously COOL AF. The way he is genuinely good with people, great with the crowd, funny guy, humble, and VERY smart. Intelligent, articulate, and GREAT with people. That is one of THE coolest people I have ever met. He gave a funny shout out to my mom over the phone "shaming" her and pretend crying that his "feelings were hurt" because she didn't come to the Sabaton show. LOL hahahaha . Dude is a CHAMP. Anything I can do to plug for that band, ( new fans), I do. They deserve every good thing they have coming to them. Par was a really nice guy too, sweet natured, humble, friendly, hell of a bassist. Freaking love those guys!!!

Both my grandpa's fought in WWII. Mother's side was US Navy on USS Hazelwood until it was hit in a kamikaze attack. To appreciate the bravery of the destroyer and destroyer escort sailors read or look up "Tin Can Sailors". Grandpa on my dad's side was a sniper (designated marksman/sharpshooter) who was captured by the Nazis during the battle of the bulge. Man was about 6' tall and after 4 different death matches he was freed by US forces weighing 82 pounds. I love that Sabaton tells the stories of these wars and the men who fought them. Hopefully people will gain a deeper understanding history through discovering this awesome band.

I feel like Tuomas is such a quiet and reserved person that I'd have to talk 90% of the time until I find something he wants to talk about. And people already think I talk too much NOW. Hahaha

@@TankTheTech Yeah, i see what you mean by that. But based on the few interviews I've seen of him that's not the whole truth 🙂 generally, it's usually the interviewer who creates the mood and atmosphere and gets the interviewed person open up and talk. And you, sir, have no problem in doing that, loving the podcast so far! Good stuff! As many of the comments say, these are not so much of interviews but more like old friends having a relaxed conversation 😊

Speaking on funny unexpected tour moments:
I saw Sabaton at the end of one of their tours in Washington DC, with Battle Beast and Leaves Eyes. At the end of Leaves Eyes set, the guys from Battle Beast came out naked with fluorescent tape around their junk and started taking apart the drum kit, mid song. It was the last night of the tour so everyone, including Sabaton, were doing funny stuff throughout the night.

I'm reminded of an old anecdote - sadly don't remember who told it, some legendary guitarist (Jeff Beck? Ritchie Blackmore? ...) - that after a recording session they did in Nashville, the headmaster guy managing the equipment and cleaning the studio asked if he could borrow the still set up guitar and play a few bars, and blew him away in a level that made him doubt his carreer :D

Have to disagree with the having a bad day = not enjoying the concert. Got stuck in a 4-hour traffic jam in the middle of a hot desert on the way from So Cal to Vegas to see Rammstein (a regular occurrence on the 15 freeway). Barely made it in time. Concert was still amazing. Maybe even better because it allowed for venting of frustrations.

A massive thank you to both Tank and Joakim for this. These interviews are a great insight into how bands are on tour, in the studio and even doing videos. It's so much fun to see this side of bands as I know some interviews are more hero worship than anything. Also I agree with you both about the history being edited (eg the nuclear bombs) thing. That is soooo scary as I am a firm believer in "those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" and if the history is changed how can we learn from it in the future.

Very interesting ! Joakim is a great guy and I'm happy you had a chance to talk with him (and to finally have an answer to what happened to the gear on the "Race To The Sea" music video =D).
I hope you can talk to the other members of Sabaton (well, except Hannes, since you alrealdy had him on your first podcast). And maybe Floor Jansen, too ?? With her single out since a few days, it would be interesting to hear about her thoughts.

Gotta admit, I'm pretty jealous you're seeing them at the Ryman. As soon as I saw it I was super stoked for them. Second thought, Tank is so happy right now. This was a cool conversation to watch. And super nice to see him so relaxed and open to the questions. I hope you have some cool times with them in the fall. Thank you Tank. 🤘🏻

This interview was one of the best stuff i saw about music in youtube for years. Even with some reservations about the way you talked about the new MGK album (to be clear, i completely agreed with you, but you just gave food to haters without any music background), thank you for bringing these amazing people and putting them in a level we can feel the way they actually want to be, just equals. I worked with music for about 6 years in Brazil and the best artists i met were not "stars" but just people, and i think sabaton as a whole could put themselves in the stars place, but nope they are here with the "mortals". As always amazing work from you and amazing work from Joakim, Everytime i see these guys talking i feel like they have no idea how far their music reach, and the size of their fanbase. Keep going man! Music is not a fair ground to work, people will always expect more and more, just keep calm and do it your own way. You and Elizabeth are unique! (sorry, she deserves half of the prize hahaha) *oh editing cause i almost forgot about Mark, he has his own genre but still another great guy to watch (could put here way more people, but you 3 are the ones i really enjoy and always want more!)
