I moved to Canada as a single young man ( Edmonton )last year. I was doing not bad in my home country ( 3rd world ). I came to try to find a better future and a better country to raise a family, but I was all wrong. I’m working on 16.5$/hour pre tax, with barely paying rent, food, transportation and mobile data. I’ve been insulted 3 times during this year on transit by homeless and addicts that I’ve never met without any reason . One of them spit at me, one slapped me and one pulled a knife at me. I literally never met them and didn’t even look at them. I’ve even saw people for 3 times shit on the bus and LRT.There is no career development in this country, you’ll just keep on living from paycheck to paycheck with 0 savings. I go to work and get back home, I don’t go out because there is nothing to do especially in harsh winters, i ended up taking anti-stress pills. I’m really disappointed with Canada and I left a month ago for good on a one way ticket, there is no way to come back. It’s just the opposite of what is promoted about this country. It’s very expensive, a lot of people are homeless and addicts that could hurt you randomly, depressing weather with 0 social life and no career development. What a waste of money and time. My country which is a 3rd world country is way safer, enthusiastic and vital than Canada. The country is busy focusing on decriminalizing drugs and homosexuality rather than focusing on fixing drastic issues that are pushing the country to the edge , things that make Canada a good place for families and education for children.

Well those Italian "lab workers" would be willing to work for 30% less or more than someone from Canada. Benefits the employer. Not you or the society. Also 90% of the "new commers" are sub-humans from Africa and Asia willing to work for wage slave companies like ubereats, deliveroo etc etc. which brings down the pay rate rise.

You hit the nail on the head. As a born and raised Canadian, this is no longer the Canada I grew up in. Health Care is gone. Taxes are completely wasted and who knows where it goes. They do not care at all about the actual citizens who live here. If they slowed down immigration drastically it would actually benefit the people who are already here by forcing prices to come down as the supply and demand for housing would die down but instead they are creating a crisis by just flooding the immigration. I work in construction and the truth of that industry is that there is not enough people in it to even keep up with the current amount of construction going on. So when politicians speak of increasing the amount of construction it is a big joke because we're currently falling further behind the current construction on a daily basis. Even if they issued 15% more permits or whatever they speak on, who will actually build all that? It's not like they have a strategy to say lets slow down immigration, maybe bring in the actual people we need to be able to build the infrastructure first, and then maybe bring in some more people, you know that makes too much sense. Like you said, the politicians care about their own interests, they are influenced by a bigger agenda which serves them and not the current Canadians and especially not anyone trying to immigrate. If you were here before and already own something you're the tail end of the people that had the original Canadian life, what is available now is a scam. Canada as you may imagine it is no more. You can't own, no life balance, all people are worried about is paying bills, surviving. Might as well do it where you already are, this place is going downhill fast!

" If they slowed down immigration drastically ... by forcing prices to come down"
What fantasy world do you live in? Of all the housing bubbles that burst in the past 30 years of every major city in Canada, the rising prices just resumed their positions 6 months later.
Guess what? Immigration is a problem in all G7 countries. Is there any wonder why? They're the best countries to live in. Look at the problems in GB, France, Italy. Birth rates are plummeting. If governments wait till the last minute to bring in immigrants, they'll look like complete idiots for not doing something earlier, when they had time to train them.
If you really work in construction, you'd know, there are over 60,000 skilled trades positions open right now. 6 figure salaried jobs, and no one is applying for them.
College aged students would rather concentrate on tech jobs rather than construction. I guess eating microwaved snacks and playing video games is a greater career path for the lumpen.

    • @shrybouski
      @shrybouski ปีที่แล้ว

As a serious question... How will changing the government help? Harper's government almost immediately created 0-down 40-year mortgages and then got those interest rates to 0% following the 2008 crash. The damage is done. Check Vancouver real estate prices in 2005 vs. 2016. The housing mess was created by Canadians' worship of home ownership, seeing a house as an investment (not a place to live), and by more than a decade of near-zero interest rates. There isn't a solution to this without pissing off tons of people who bought homes two-three decades ago and now sit on unearned wealth. More recent buyers will end up, bankrupt and underwater if you crash the housing market to make it affordable. People in Trudeau's government know all this, which is why they won't do anything about the housing market.
The problem with Canada's economy is that the country does not want to invest in innovation (especially its private sector) because it's riskier than making money in real estate or selling natural resources. Academic labs are underfunded, and Canada has a brain drain of PhD-level scientists to the US for this reason. From companies' point of view, why would they establish R&D headquarters in some Canadian city when the top talent comes from MIT/Harvard/Stanford, etc... That's the conundrum, and there aren't any short-term fixes. Canada is a risk-averse society. Changing this is next to impossible.

I have been living in Canada for more than a decade, and despite the ups and downs, I can confidently say that Canada is a great country. However, in the last four years, especially during the pandemic, Canada has undergone significant changes, but unfortunately, they have been for the worse.
I moved to Montreal 12 years ago as a non-qualified immigrant. In my home country, I was a small entrepreneur. When I arrived in Canada, I took on various jobs until I landed a good position in a reputable company that provided paid training and better pay. This allowed me to enter the middle class with an annual income of $70,000, while my wife earns $60,000 per year. We supposedly make slightly more than the average income of the middle class.
However, the cost of living in Canada is exorbitantly high, and prices continue to rise. As a result, we have less money available for savings, fewer opportunities for family projects, and limited travel possibilities. We find ourselves working overtime just to cover our expenses. At this point, in one or two years, we will be in debt, which makes me question why I am still here.
Canada is currently facing economic challenges, and its government appears to be out of touch with the needs of its people, focusing more on international agendas. According to our friend Klaus Schwab, they claim that Trudeau's ministerial cabinet is influenced by them by at least 60%. Therefore, it is clear that this government does not prioritize the well-being of its citizens.

Similar situation here, also don’t forget the insane taxes.
      - “But free health care” doesn’t count, that crap makes you wait 10+hrs bleeding with a broken head before someone comes to see you. Them hoping you had died already.
      - Example: $150K in Texas, you bring home $120K. Each of those dollars used incur at most 8.25% sales taxes. In Montréal you keep barely 90K and every dollar of that surviving chunk will incur 15%. Plus bunch of stuff you own is taxes (don’t pay your car matriculation and see who really owns your car). Well, I don't know if you own a house or if you are renting, but six years ago, I purchased a house in the northeastern suburbs of Montreal. We obtained a $215,000 mortgage. Since the pandemic began, I have received many offers for this small house. The most recent one was almost double the price I paid just six years ago, at $400,000. I have spoken with many people about renting in different areas of Montreal. It seems that if you stay in the same place, the rent increases by 5% each year. However, the problem arises when you need a larger place or you need to move to another place and have to enter into a new rental agreement. While it is true that living in Montreal is still cheaper than in other provinces about housing and rent (because food is exactly the same), we do pay higher taxes and have lower salaries. So, in the end, it is the same.

The excuse for the insane housing costs in CA is "low supply, high demand", but how does a country that's 95% lumber have a low supply of housing? Government regulations. That's how. It's really that simple. Over regulation of logging and construction, and letting people immigrate faster than housing is built are the reasons for it. Completely able to be solved by the government, but then they'd have to sacrifice their ego's and the act that they care about the environment.

Unfortunately, the government's response to the pandemic involved confining people to their homes for two years. However, as soon as restrictions eased, they implemented increased taxes on gas, energy, and various other commodities. It appears that the current administration does not prioritize the well-being and livelihoods of its citizens. Do you understand that our (world wide) so-called economic system of capitalism operates like a cancer? It gets worse the longer it goes undetected and untreated. In the early to mid-stages of it, most people don't even recognize they are sick, until they finally see for themselves they are sick or see others sick and get checked. What happens to cancer if it goes untreated? Host dies. People who came to Canada about 70 years ago, did so in sort of a 'sweet spot' in capitalism's lifespan. A point in time when the fruits of their labor were compensated fairly well. Life was pretty good for people who worked hard, yet there was still LOTS of hardships and poverty, and still an elite wealthy class buying up corporations, land and influencing politicians.
I know this is an uncomfortable conversation for many people to have but it is important. Truth is truth weather you believe it or not. While I am in Canada and also sad to see the decline, I understand where it is coming from and know it isn't just Canada, it is the world sickened by the incentives of unsustainable market capitalism. Capitalism is a system that puts a price tag on nature, then allows private companies to own resources, exploit people's labor, sell those goods or services for the highest price possible, off-setting and denying costs (especially environmental) as much as possible to make profit. And not just profit every year, infinite growth of profit every single year, while competing with other companies doing the same thing. That's utter madness on a planet with finite resources. Hence: Capitalism is a cancer.
We need a new system and a transition towards a new system that create sustainable abundance of basic needs we all have, where we work less but have more freedom, health and prosperity. Where we are in harmony WITH nature, not fighting nature to make money off it for a small group of wealthy business folks.
The way forward could be in the form of a Community Co-Operative strategy. Voluntary, but inclusive for those who wish to contribute. Collaborative to maximize efficiency and innovation. Co-ownership via 3 hour voluntary contribution to any community project per week, shared cash dividends from all the projects and focus on building localized abundance and prosperity of things we need to survive and thrive, such as: Food, healthcare, housing, water, electricity, transportation, education, parks and recreation.

@@neonparadise3095 I think you have realized that there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. The system is broken all over the world so the best decision is for people to make their own community, where they live now, better by building a healthier, more efficient system. We can do that, if we co-operate and collaborate.
The time is now to start having these conversations and build common ground to act. There are some shared strategies we can use that can be applied to our local area plus take advantage of innovations that have worked in other places. One Small Town strategy is worth a look. Applies well to many communities in Canada and it is already under way with an Ambassador and some towns signed up.
Don't despair! Keep learning, researching and connecting. Then act in a co-operative way to create a community of abundance and prosperity where you live. If we all try to do that, at least we know we've tried to do something to improve our society.

Great video! You're probably the first video among many I watched to explain jobs that scam new arrivals from timeline 6:55. I have been watching several videos about Canada, and can see clear and definite similarities with 2 or 3 Australian cities. I currently live in 1 of the 3 cities. Just like in Canada, the ones who leave tend to quietly leave while the majority (for now) who stay have their heads in the sand in denial.

    • @coolioso808
      @coolioso808 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Selfish bureaucrats are just the natural outcome of a system run on long on the ruthless, selfish, unsustainable incentives of market capitalism. Capitalism operates like a cancer and the longer it goes untreated, the sicker people get.
We are in late-stage capitalism so we need treatment and building a new system to make the current system obsolete. Most politicians will not get in line, especially Federally, until we the people build towns of co-operative abundance and prosperity that includes better healthcare, education, housing, food and other necessities better than capitalism could ever do.
If you are sad at the state of Canada, are you willing to act on making it better? At least talk openly about possible solutions. That's a start. Can't tell you how many people aren't willing to even talk openly about the realities of our socio-economic system, better possibilities and shared strategies to create a better life for themselves, their family and community. So, if you are at the stage you'll talk, great, next step will be act and that can be hard, but easier when you have even a small group in your area also on board.

I was born in Canada and everything you say is accurate, unfortunately. I’m in my 30s now and when I was growing up, Canada used to be much better. Today, it’s so so hard to see a caring doctor. They no longer exist. The medical system in Ontario for example (at least in major cities) has degraded so much. The healthcare professionals really don’t care about their patients and I’ve noticed that many are just not that bright like the ones from 20 years ago. To see a specialist, forget it. You want to get proper health care, that reality is disappearing and it’s very possible your health will just degrade, despite us Canadians paying some of the highest income taxes in the world!

Moved here (Calgary) in September 2022 from the Netherlands and have to say that your experience quite matches mine, and moving here made me appreciate my own country so much more.
What probably annoys me most here, is that compared to the Netherlands, people seem so ingenuine. Generally speaking, people are definitely kind, but I feel they're just kind towards each other for their own social image, instead of genuinely being kind. In your face they laugh and smile, but around your back, ooft...I've tried to get closer to people and make friends, but so far everyone seems very closed off, they'll give you promises to hangout or do something, but never really get back to you. Quite surprised as this country is advertised as very open, friendly and community driven, yet I've never felt lonelier in a place. Such a contrast to Australia where I also lived for 2 years, that country is more known to be closed/narrowminded/racist, yet I felt really part of the people there.
Second thing I'm really missing here is culture. Honestly everything looks the same, nightlife is dead as fuck, shopping here is done in a mall or one of these horrible outside shopping blocks. I sometimes just miss the atmosphere of taking things a bit slower, enjoying life, street shopping and sitting down at a cute little terrace.
This with the unbelievable slow bureaucracy makes it very hard for people here.
    - Converting driver's license took 4 months (basically the whole winter, even though our countries have a contract)
    - Going to a doctor having to pay a couple hundred in cash up front, while I have to wait 3 hours till it's my turn because they only do walk-ins for immigrants until you got your health card (which also takes months)
    - Car insurance not taking into account my 11 claim free years from both NL and AUS, which means paying at least $250 a month for just a 3rd party insurance.
With the crazy rents, insane inflation and just in general expensive cost of life here, even I with a salary close to 100k annually, I really need to watch my bucks here as a single guy from abroad.
I'm very blessed to have found a room all-in for 850, where the owner is only home 2-4 nights a month, so have the whole place for myself, else I would've probably left Canada by now, simply because living here doesn't seem worth spending so much money.

Dude, you nailed it on so many fronts. Canadians lie a lot (let's hang out, I will watch the show you recommended) but don't keep track of their lies, so they don't realize you know they are not being genuine.
I have been in my province for 10 years and have only one close Canadian friend. The rest say they are my friends but really, they are just acquaintances. My long term friends are non-Canadians who I went to school with more than 10 years ago and they live in another province.
I had better friendships and a better quality of life in the US. I was there for a decade. People invited you over for Christmas when they know you have no family, Canadians don't do that despite being 'more friendly'.
If I didn't have financial commitments to family back home, I would take vacation visiting friends I made from Asia, Europe, and South America since I am closer to them than I am to the people in Canada. I feel more alone here than I felt in the US.

Can’t disagree with anything that you’ve said. 20 years ago Canada was still a great country (imo). Our current Prime Minister has destroyed it in less than 10 years.
In terms of nightlife and culture I’d say that perhaps Montreal is one of the only places left where you can find some genuine excitement (probably because the city has a much more european feel to it) but the rest of Canada? You’re right… pretty damn boring with people just barely getting by. That’s not living. I’ll likely retire to Italy, Brazil or Thailand where my pension will actually be worth soemthing.

Canadians also have the most debt out of all G7 countries. Life in Canada keeps getting worse and people here can't seem to understand it so they go into debt to maintain the lifestyle they had. Canadian debt adds more Canadian dollars into the system so we eventually see a spike in inflation. If you have things like stocks, it's all good tho since profits go up with inflation. Meanwhile the debt ridden Canadian now has a huge financial burden, can't borrow even a bicycle and his/her cost of living goes up.
