This video somehow finally displayed you two as a couple in a way that really shows us the connection you two share.
If you need a reason that is a positive, it's the first real life challenge the two of you have faced as a couple. Smack in the middle of the purchase of your rental property fixer up-er. You two are goofing around and singing and are all touchy and feely.
So from this challenge take away from it how the two of you are smiling and laughing and dorky singing while you sort the solution.
You will be a stronger couple for getting through this together, which is worth far more than a cherished apartment.

Ach is amazing. You have every right to feel upset. Yet how gratifying it is to have someone by your side who's able to take it in stride and take care of business. Truly yin and yang.

Moving is very stressful and I had a landlord(dirty, greedy) I’m 60 years old, no family . My landlord went online and found intimidating angry letters to evict me. Wasn’t open to “adult conversation” was never issued a court-ordered document. I am an excellent tenant. He wanted me out so he could potentially sell the apartment, in fact I went online, he already had the apartment for sale(with me in it). So, I called a moving company, spent all my money for them to take away my entire world, and store my things(I didn’t have another apartment lined up yet), in fact I was homeless with my sweet little dog for 2 months, then I found an apartment with a kind landlord. Very few kind landlords are out there.

    @xnonsuchx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

"Eviction" is just something you think about tenants who are delinquent in paying rent and/or otherwise being troublesome despite warnings. But, unfortunately, that's just the term for it (like "termination" for leaving a job, whether it was by choice or not...and, if not, due to bad performance or just being laid off). I had an eviction many years ago because my landlord sold the property and the new owners wanted the place for a relative, but my landlord was very apologetic about it and even offered to show me other properties he owned (and wasn't planning to sell).

Check with the legalities of the landlord setting your move out date. I don't know how it is in the UK, but in the states, once you are given an eviction notice they cannot hold you to a lease or charge you beyond the date you move out. I would assume that the UK also has such a protection for tenants. You may very well be able to move out whenever you find a place and not be held to or responsible for paying until the date they have set.

  • @lorrainethomas241

Ach made an excellent point. The empathy you'll have for your future tenants will be a gift to them. Doesn't mean you have to tolerate bad behavior or late rent. But you'll be able to treat them with the respect you wish you'd had received from your landlords. (I get formal notices and legal wotnots; but it does strike me as a bit cold to not have a nice little "heads up" chat first. It might have lessened the sting. And you're right; eviction is a word that conotes you did something wretched.)

When I got one of those I was shocked but not surprised as I had an idea it was on the cards but still it was a shock receiving that letter!
I do understand that circumstances change over time but its better to explain things to the tenants as when things are explained to people I find that when things are explained to me I am more understanding.

AK seems to be taking this well. He has the right attitude.
You may be "nice people", but not all renters are - all those bad things you thought about, might happen to you if you rent out your rehab house. Speaking of... I'm looking forward to the 'before' video.
I used to be able to move with all my stuff in a VW Golf, so I understand that stage of life. The old saying is that 'three moves equals a fire', meaning that stuff gets lost, broken, or tossed. Moving keeps you 'lean'.

We owned a rental and a drug addict rented it (we didn't know he was) we had to take him to court and have the police come and physically remove them from the property. He had cut out a doorway in a wall and put up a wall around an area which went against the contract agreement. It was a huge mess. Be very careful and do background checks as well as character checks on previous residents where they lived. Good luck. ❤️

  • @robertschwartz4810

I don't know how it is in England, but here in Chicago everyone moves in either May and June or September and October which makes it hard to find a new place any other times. One thing that you haven't mentioned in this blog or the other is are they just not renewing your lease, or does this come in the middle of it? If it's the latter, that would be totally illegal here.

Obviously I don't know landlord tenant laws in England but in the US.... when you're in a lease, the owner has to allow you to complete the full term of the lease or buy out the remainder of your lease. Check into your landlord/tenant laws there. kk 🙂

I think that if the landlords are asking you to leave BEFORE your lease ends, then they MIGHT have to pay you to move. Like pay for the movers, etc. But if they are asking you to leave at the end of your lease tern, then ask your tenant rights association in the UK and see what they what might tell you what you can do.
AND, this is the first time when you are a couple, interacting as a couple. It's so endearing!!!

Evicted in the US means you are thrown off the property for doing something wrong so not evicted. Most people have meetings with landlord if the property is up for sale or whatever. Leave and let it be the landlords problem. My landlord put my condo up for sale and let me know. However, there was an expectation of showing it any time which I put a stop to. I worked full time and had a baby so that wasn't happening but we worked thru it amicably.

It wasn't really the estate agent's fault as they were following instructions. The landlord could have dropped you a line personally or through the agent before to apologise and explain and perhaps give a verbal warning that a notice would be served within a couple of weeks. That seems crass just to send a notice by email with no prior warning or chat.

  • @Liamshavingfun
    @Liamshavingfun 4 ปีที่แล้ว

That's nice they give you 2 months notice because here in the US you get a 3 day notice when getting evicted..but that's from not paying rent and you can drag it out through the courts to get you more time.

I like what Ach had to say about this being a learning experience regarding how it feels to be evicted. Knowing you are starting this new venture with renting properties, it gives you another perspective if you ever find yourself in a “Section 21” situation. 🙂 You guys have each other to go through this situation together, so lean on each others’ strengths and you will come out better for the experience on the other side of this.

Of course, it could be a hassle as well. Just a thought." Idk, this idea seems perfect in a sense. The big house comes into your hands and you're being evicted. It needs work, so it's a blank canvas. Film it and you've got content! Best wishes on whatever you do! =)

I don't know how the rental references for renting a flat work in the UK, but in California if you have a court eviction on your record most landlords will not rent to you because you are considered "bad" tenants. So, please check carefully before going to court. For example, how close to the eviction day can you file with the court? A question for an attorney. No sense filing before you have to to see if you can find another place. Also, if there are flats available for immediate rental now, there will [probably be flats available for immediate rental a month from now. Good luck.

It might seem cold, but the notice itself has to have a precise wording to be legally valid. Section 21 notices don't need to be accompanied by any reason for their issuance but you did get one in this case. Finding an assured shorthold tenancy with a long initial fixed term is difficult.

This is so sad for you. In the states, we wouldn’t apply the term eviction in this situation. We’d actually state briefly the specific situation. Here, eviction would typically only be used if there was a rules violation (drugs and such) or non-payment. I wish today’s world things could be a bit warmer and more personal (hugs)... praying you find the perfect place soon!

Lia you have the right to be upset because you don't have control over the situation but you can get through lifes challenges this is just one of many. You can be upset briefly but then go from being emotional to logical and practical. Ach went from upset to logical quicker than you did but everyone processes things differently. You are probably upset because you are not making the choice someone else is but this could be a positive thing that you will find a better place. Loved the singing and the fact that Ach would go to America and tour trying different types of ice cream sounds fun maybe do a road trip of the the U S trying ice cream and Joel could try barbeque and real pies that would really be fun. Maybe in a motor home.

I know your situation is really upsetting for you now but try to look for the positives. Here are a few that I can think of: 1. You will come out of this as a much stronger person. 2. The way you and Ach are facing this together will help the two of you become a much stronger couple. 3. If you think of this as a new adventure you may find some place you like even better than where you live now. 4. You have a lot of fans who care about the two of you and are sending you lots of good vibes and prayers to help you through this. Thanks for sharing your rant with us.

Arranging the stuff you have bought for the space you were in before is a little depressing. Will it fit? Where do I put this. Well this looks awful in this new place.
And moving it there is not fun either.

I like him. But it is horrible. I've been through it. He's right packing and moving is the pits.

If you want to go just move and dont pay once you've left. Go for the ASAP property.

Y’all should look into the enneagram personalities. It’s great at helping us understand our own reactions/responses to our circumstances (like I want to be sad for a bit, then do something) and others (right, let’s get on with it). Might be a fun thing for y’all to do for YT and for you and Joel to do for your platform. Praying you find a great place to live.

I understand Lia’s initial emotions. Could the estate agent not have contacted you direct and explained the need and ask if you could start the process for relocation? Why do they have to immediately go to an eviction? A little consideration on their part could have made the entire situation less harsh!

With us what upset us isnt having got the notice in itself as I understand how circumstances can change for anyone at the drop of a hat but how it was managed as if things had been explained to us I would have had a different reaction and been more understanding!

Do you not have the option of staying--why does the landlord want to lose you--is the place going condo--or gentrifying? Is this a thing in the UK--punt renters down the road just cause? Very disruptive as well.

So sorry that is happening, especially when Lia is so attached. Buy your own place and later on buy the investment property - Then the place is yours, you're not throwing your money away on rent, and no one can evict you again. When you set up home it's actually your home.

Exactly. After this experience, how are you ever going to feel stable in a rental again?

We don't know where in the country we'd want to buy for our home as we aren't tied to Chichester

Most landlords don't evict good tenants if they intent to relet the property. The problem with tenants now a days is once they move in they don't want to pay rent. I had a tenant say he didn't like the plan of the property??? Um did you rent this place with your eyes closed.

Terrible luck, but since you're not being removed for cause, it shouldn't hurt your ability to rent a new place. And yes, please open an ice cream store in L.A. It's mostly chains around here. Would love some artisan cones!

Time to 23-skidoo, shuffle off to Buffalo, make like a tree and leaf, skip out, make a Midnight Move, etc etc. If it's of any comfort, try to think of how much nastier this would feel if you were alone
