    Grace the look on your face says it all. Those days when you had doubts have long gone and the wondering if you had done the right thing have also gone. Well done you for sticking with it and following your heart with passion. And now you have a better plan for next year. It just shows what you can achieve when you want to. As always thanks for posting.

    What about selling sheep through a sale barn? Selling sheep directly to customers is certainly better, but it'd be interesting to know how a sale barn works. Especially for those who just starting out.

    • @theShepherdess

      Good question! It is a simple process. Basically drop and go as far my local rancher explained to me. At my local sale barn you pay $10 per head commission plus transport fees from farm to sale barn if you do not haul yourself.

    What happens if you place them online for sale and heaven forbid you lose a lamb or two that has essentially already been sold online?

    • @theShepherdess
      @theShepherdess  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s always a risk, but once a lamb is sold I put it in a heavily gated pasture where predation risk is minimal. Also, I do not offer a sheep for sale in my website if it is sickly or weak.
      In the worst case scenario where a lamb does die before pickup (which has not happened to me) it is easy enough to refund a credit card payment and cancel the sale.

      Not necessarily true, it depends on what they are finished on. If your livestock are rotational grazing and finished on a high protein plant and Sudan sorghum or clovers they will be nice and fat.

      @xaitramuntana1377 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @xaitramuntana1377 Many successful agricultural endeavors have been called "impossible" before. And yes clover is considered a "grassfed" method as it is a very healthy, beneficial meadow plant that grows naturally in many places and is loved by both wild and domestic ruminants. It is also worth nothing that clover is eaten fresh and green from the ground, not dried and stored like grains. It might be helpful for you to know that there are two opposite terms: "grassfed" and "grain or silage fed".

  • @imaslowlerner

    Just to understand, you don't eat dead sheep 🐑, you slaughter them first?

    • @ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim
      @ifyouloveChristyouwillobeyhim 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Shs does not eat sheep that have been strangled or found dead. Only sheep that have been freshly slain and processed. This is because when an animal is freshly slain, it's opened in a place that lets as much blood flow out as possible. It is bad to let excess blood remain in the meat. If an animal is not slain in this particular way, the blood stays in the meat, and this is forbidden by God. Grace is Christian.

    • @imaslowlerner
      @imaslowlerner 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @itsshrimpinabag9544 : the reason I asked that question is because at marker 2:04 she said that she sells dead sheep for meat. Maybe I misunderstood her. I agree with you 100% on draining as much blood as possible.

      @@imaslowlerner She just couldn't think of a better way to phrase it than "deadstock" as opposed to "livestock". I think her grin indicates that she realizes "deadstock" is a silly term. Then she clarifies that what she means is "meat".
