Took martial arts from his dad in Garden Grove. I would often hitch hike with my board down Brookhurst to the beach. I would often sit in awe by the HB pier as David made shooting the pier so ridiculously easy. He was someone I admired.
David Nuuhiwa one of the most stylish hot dog surfers ever. Always in smooth fluid flight and in perfect trim. His surfing makes average surf conditions magical.
He used to surf on the Jacob surf team around 1964. He would often be seen out in the beach break at Hermosa Beach California around 22nd St. This is when I first started surfing and I remember seeing him and just being amazed at what he could do. The thing that impressed me most was how light he was on his feet.
I’m at David Nueva on Carmel Beach and 1967. He came by on scenic Avenue. We’re all sitting there all his kids at 11th St., Carmel Beach. He drove up was is some of his buddies. He has like a load of fucking short boards he drove up to us and he goes. Hey guys you wanna try my boards that’s the last time anyone use the longboard on Carmel Beachthe guy was awesome to do that. I’ll never forget it long as I live. God bless you, David Nueva.
As a young grome drowing up in HB David was one to watch, he held our respect as a surfer because he was a shop owner and a brand you could see surfing daily.
