    Thank you for recognizing all that James does. The guy is not only a signer/songwriter, he's playing sometimes complicated riffs at high speeds while singing. Incredible musician who doesn't get enough praise because he's in a genre that is deemed lesser.

    • @Grigeral
      @Grigeral 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I wouldn't say he's underpraised because the genre is deemed lesser. Metallica are absolutely huge and they have been for the past 20 years. To the point they are even known outside of the metal genre, which speaks volumes.
      The thing is, while it's impressive yes, there comes a point in learning an instrument where you are able to do the basics without thinking about it. That's the point you 'have' to be at in order to sing while you play. And if you can do it, it won't matter how fast you need to play it because you're already able to do it.
      Not saying this to downplay him as a musician though, don't get me wrong. There is no doubt in my mind he knows his way around a guitar like the best of them, but thrash metal especially, is filled with singers who play instruments while also doing vocals, which is why it's often not really picked up on.

      Dude, he wrote almost all of the guitar riffs in Metallica. Plus, he was one of the most accurate and in sync guitar players. Kirk gets a lot of love because of the solos, but really James was the one who made all the great riffs.

  • @Morbid90

    James is an amazing guitarist. People tend to overlook rhythm guitar players but they don't realize how hard that shit is, especially when you're singing at the same time. He also wrote some of the most kickass riffs of all time.

    Justice features some of Kirk's most violent and unhinged lead guitar work. Definitely one of my favorite solos of his. It's just so bonkers and unpredictable. And then the riffs! The whole song just moves and grooves so well. It's so damn fun to play.

      Singing and playing at the same time is 10x harder than just doing one thing. Dunno why. You gotta keep 2 things at the same time and such parallelism is very unnatural and hard for our brains. We are not created for multitasking

    • @PortugueseKeto
      @PortugueseKeto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@angryktulhu rhythm guitar is literally playing a repeated rhythm, so your body can kinda fall into a sort of auto pilot while you play, allowing you to sing as you play. It also helps if you know the lyrics cold. But this riff is pretty complicated, especially transitions, so singing along is difficult to be sure.
