Was there Feb.1980 - Jul.1986, now retired & living in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam (used to live on Balvernie Grove which is about 10 mins walk away). Millions of thanks for sharing the pictures of my old school, really bring back precious memories. Started out in Nu all the way until departure. Used to play pat-a-ball with a tennis ball against the curved wall in the old building after school's 3:30pm - always lost to a boy of the name Errol Read. Just hated the classes in the Planetarium, but loved all other classes from teachers: Miss. Taylor (German), Mr. Clegg (maths), Mr. Norton (metalworks), Miss. Weatherson (English & she got married to one of the PE teachers whom i forgot the name), Mr. R. D. Price (science & dep. Headmaster), Mr. Allen (science), Mr. Citeroni (science/chemistry) .... Mr. Jaques (technical drawing) .... Mr. Izzard (biology) ..... Mr. Snare (pe) .... oh & Mr. Harvey (music) & a ton of other teachers whom i can still clearly remember their faces until this day but forgotten their names. Can never forget Mr. Clegg always let one of the boys go out to buy sweets for the whole class, during class & in every class.
@@sgd.6830 ...thats it... i remember now. Miss Weatherson married to Mr. Lawrence, my PE teacher. Nice to see your reply, i must say i didnt like school at Wandsworths', but now living so far from the place & now at 56 coming on to 57, those memories back there & then just feel so beautiful. Again, nice to see your reply.
I was there from’54 to ‘59. The new comprehensive part had just opened which was great for me as I went in at the bottom and was able to rise up. My house was Gibbon. This video brought back wonderful memories except for the time we had to play rugby in two feet of snow, and yes the pool was bloody cold.
1971-1973 Cromwell House, Nu class, were great years for me, I discovered Architecture drawing, played Team Rugby, Cross Country, Athletics, Cricket and Basketball. Spent many years in Architectural field, many years as College athletics coach a long way from Brixton ghetto life. I remember Wimbledon used ballboys from our school, one was my Cross Country team mate Cousins, great memories for a young boy
Thanks a bunch for posting this it definitely got some emotions going. I was there I think from 1969-1974. The other commentaries here bring back a lot of memories. I was there the day the boy was murdered. I knew the murderer to say hello to. I kept him at arms length, he was a nutter, as was his brother who had been in remand prison for stabbing someone. I was in the school choir and sang Carmina Burana at the queen Elisabeth hall with Benjamin britten conducting with Russell Burgess, definitely one of the highlights. I remember Mr Clark, John Clegg, and some others. I remember the first few days there when the older boys would try and throw the new boys over the wall. I later became friends with the only 2 boys that came wearing shorts that year. One was dirt poor the other from a well off family in kensington. the former, John White went on to become a computer expert and traveled the world the other Nicholas schroeder was into archaeology he later committed suicide. I found it difficult to learn there because of the disruptive kids, and the bullying. Both John and Nicholas were bullied relentlessly so I befriended them. I think I had more fights there than most. It still has a place in my heart though. I remember getting the cane from the headmaster. before my friend went in I got him to stuff a thin book down his backside, a few seconds later half the headmasters best cane came flying out the open door. lol. I hope to chat here with some of you. Chears. I live in the United states now.
I was there 65 till 69,hated school full stop but loved being in the school choir.Sang at Royal Albert Hall,Festival hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and St Pauls for the Queen and Duke, made an album which i still have. That period in the choir was the best time of my childhood and am still very proud of the choirs achievements over those years and right up to 80's i think went it was disbanded. I rem Tommy Boyce.Barry O'shea.Mark Emney.Teachers,John Vockings,he was brilliant,of course the horrible deputy head and Mr Howard headmaster.Last but not least our great music head teacher Mr ..........god my memory
I left there in 1957 and remember every bit of the original school, the playing fields, swimming pool and fives courts. I like most kids hated school, having to wear a cap,tie and blazer even more so, but in hindsight and taking all into consideration it was a fun time in my life, great memories.
When I attended this dump, 1966 -71 I had never laughed so much, I enjoyed almost every minute, yes there were good times and bad, but I made friends there, some have lasted all my life.i wasted the last year or so, bunking off.some teachers were bad, and some good. Vockimgs and miss riding, (who later married each other) stand out....One young teacher of English, arrived about 8 months before I left, she took the trouble to spend time with me, and lit the flame of interest in Shakespeare, and poetry , that has never been extinguished. . Miss Rees (hope I've spelt it correctly)...I was a bit of a tearaway then, you might not remember me, but I have never forgotten you....Thank you...and thanks to everybody I met, including teachers, (good and bad) for some wonderful memories. great video...I can see my own ghost outside the entrances.
i was at wandsworth 1973 i was 13 at the time i had a friend called john cob he took me in when i run away from my house i like to say thanks i allways remmember him
1976-77 spent a year in 2 Omega, with my dad on sabbatical from Canada. A huge lump in my throat over seeing this - a thousand thanks for the memories.
Lived in Fulham.I attended Wandsworth school in September 1974-1981. King House was the best with the blue tie. I was in Epsilon for 3 years. Happiest of years of school for me there. Remembered the murder of the pupil in 74. MR, Bacchus was the lower school headmaster. He loved using the cane on the boys. Played rugby for the school. First years were put over the wall into the muddy grass. My two brothers came to the school. My 1st year class had a Bullet Gunn and a Cannon. Loved MR King in religious studies do his game for the boys. Now live Stateside for the last 9 years in Utah.
Well, there's some memories. Came to Wandsworth autumn '76 from Northamptonshire, where my family had shattered and my poor mum had to escape back to her home town, taking me with her. Hated it at first, lots of hostility I could never understand and not just from the other kids, but some teachers, too. Those were the days when kids were routinely put down and discouraged if they didn't show signs of being child prodigies - and I certainly didn't. Looking back at the ripe old age of 51, I wonder what many of the teachers were even doing there, they clearly wanted to be somewhere else. Mr 'Technical Drawing' Tucker just insulted us from his desk, behind his Sun newspaper. What a thoroughly unpleasant man. However, my confidence grew and I came to love the place. Found support from fantastic inspirational teachers such as John Clegg (RIP my friend), John Tobin, Elizabeth Al Qadhi, Steve Millar, Jane Thomson, Roger Amos and yes even Denys Wallace, who when he wasn't chewing on a wasp, was a remarkable bloke. Andrew Smetham, too - not exactly the role model of the more left-leaning amongst his staff, but a petrified kid like me felt a little easier when he was around. Kind friends played a part, too, such as Trevor Hart (with whom I regret losing touch to this day), Paul Bell, Naseer Dean, Richard & Julian Gordon, John Fabregas and many others. Stayed on until A levels and despite an inauspicious start to life at Wandsworth, finally ended my formal education some four years later at Post-Grad level, who on earth would have thought, much less that I went on to have a successful business career of 25 years (and counting). Thank you everyone for all the help you gave.
T-i-t-c-h getting thrown over the wall as a first year. I was in iota my form teacher was Mr Allen a sadistic twat and I remember Mr Clegg. Looking back it was a pretty good school, I also remember Sammy Smith who taught bricklaying and technical drawing those really were the days we even did painting and decorating and sailing. Also Mr Boyde who took us for R.E. Who had brown fingers through smoking to much and would always end up talking about sexual transmitted diseases and a crazy English teacher called Miss Rock
@@davidmccarthy6053 I remember Mr Clegg, and Mr ( slipper) Allen. I was given the slipper by Mr Allen. Me and my mate Rob Howard were mucking around at break time. I threw something at Rob......a stone or apple core, I can't remember, and it hit Mr Allen.....He was quite a way away and I just didn't see him !!!
i am glad i am not alone in feeling that way some of the teachers allowed bullying which made me attempt suicide at 15 years old and when i returned to school i was treated like a leper bloody bastards, i now am a writer and singer so i pulled through glad you did too mate:)
Thanks for the video. I was there from 1955-60 (Pitt D), first in the grammar school and then in the new comprehensive. Many fond memories of the old building; fencing, outdoor swimming (yuk) with Mr Coate-Bond, the school choir under Mr. Russell Burgess - and many more. Oh, and Mr Lincee at morning assembly in the new school hall, with his little book checking down the lines of boys to see who might be missing!
Vince.. I was among the first intake of the new comprehensive school kids and I too hated the place and left at 15 ! With 2000 boys it was too big and having left a great secondary mixed school it was overwhelming and crushing. I managed my 3 years there with the cretin Mr Clark who was a maths teacher also remember a few other Teachers names.. 1956 - 59
Though the school was terrible. Life would have been a lot harder through this hell, if it were not for some former pupils who put up with me .. Stephen Ross, John Mills, George Constantine, Kelvin Walker, Mark Mills.. of whom I can remember.. Thank You for making my journey through hell slightly bearable. Can't remember any teachers that had any sort of postive impact on me.
I was at Wandsworth as a pupil from 1965 -1972 , went and trained as a teacher and came back in the art department 1975 -80. I can honestly say I had a good time.
peter bainton I was there from 74 to 79 you probably taught me at some point. I remember an art teacher in the old building who had a dog she was old I don’t know her name
Only at the school from 1955 to 1956 before as a family we moved out of London to Surrey. Remember the choir with Russell Burgess as he made me audition for it in front of the whole I was in. Sorry to see that it and the buildings that housed it as no longer.
i was here from 1958 to 1964 and was glad when i left! . HR Klng was headmaster and i remember Mr Backus for RI , Mr Marchington for geography and Mr.dormon for technical drawing ( who sadly had a heart attack one day and died) . Remember Alan Prestwich,Paul Raynor and Roger Lancefield as fellow pupils in my class - Cromwell H
Wish I’d taken the time to revisit the old place in the years after I left. I was there from 1960 to 66. Tragically a kid in my year I knew as he lived on the Argyll Estate and I seem to remember attended the same Cub Pack, the First Southfields when we were younger, (I think his name Ken Worthy) drowned in the school pool during a lunchtime swimming session, after he’d eaten lunch, something we were all lectured about never doing!
That brought back memories. I was there 1956 to 1961, Gibbon house, in 1 Gamma then Form 2, 3, 4 and 5. First term or two in 1956 was in a school building in Merton Road because the new buildings were not quite ready. H. Raymond King was Headmaster, Ben Clode and Ernie Bacchus were his next in line. Other teachers I remember - Mr Elms (Chewy) who started the Eisteddford, Marchington (Geography), Dr Solomon (Geography), Voijcek Mrzowski (Maths), Ken Newson (English), Roy Waters (English and was responsible for high profiling the drama), Russell Burgess (Music and high profiled the Choir), G M Evans (RE), Mr Timothy (French and had a loud piercing voice), Joe Austin (Head of French), K M G Humphries (Latin and History), Mr Payne (History), Mlle Vasseau a delightful French Assistante who was seranaded with wolf whistles by all occupants in the Main Hall as she entered for dinner, Mr Williams (who seemed to speak every language that was going), Mr Levy (English who would charge a deposit for the use of a dip pen which was returned when given back), Sir Richard Ackland (Physics), Mr Lincee (French and German), Mr Whellock (Biology), Ken Coate-Bond (PE), "Killer" Clarke (PE and athletics), are among those I can name. If I got out my old school reports, I could add a few more. We all referred to each other by our surnames so most of the time we didn't know the other pupils first names but a few I can recall from Form 3 or 4 or 5 were Robert Clarke, Fogg, Pollard, Bateman, Messer, Liszka, Ian Cobb (who was leader of the School Orchestra). I enjoyed my time at Wandsworth School and particularly my involvement in music and drama were special. At the end of he day I suppose I could have done better if I hadn't mucked about as much as I did.
I remember so many of these names, particularly "chewy" Elms and Russell Burgess, Mr. Lincee my French teacher and housemaster, Mr. Levy taught me English, "Killer" Clarke was my P.E. teahcer for 3 years, Mr. (he wouldn't answer to the title Sir Richard) Acland was my set master, Cromwell "C", a very nice and approachable guy. I consider myself lucky to have gone there and don't think I could have made a better choice.
was there between 1975 & 1980. The school was too big. Class discipline was terrible. but somehow we got through it. always felt sorry for the nice teachers. was da Cruz the maths teacher.
John Barber (Ali) I was at Wandsworth Grammar from 1955 - 1959. I was in 1 Gamma for the first year, but I think I went down as I was a very naughty boy! Mixture of painful and happy memories. Nice video - well done.
I was there 1953 - 1958, Gibbon house, Bacchus for Latin, Cope-Bond for PE, Burgess for Music, H Raymond-King Headmaster. School keeper used to wash his dog in the swimming pool.
The fencing master I remember had represented Britain in the Olympics. He had a droopy moustache and his name was half French. I remember it was something Beaumont.
@@davidruffell5808 Somehow I'm thinking he was a professor of fencing? Sounds odd but that's what I remember. I did fencing for a term and he would throw a foil or a sabre down the gym at you if you weren't paying attention or were messing about. That old gym used to stink! We only put down for it so as we could stay indoors during the winter term and not freeze our nuts off playing rugby. After one term in that gym with that nutter, we realised we'd be better off on the rugby pitch!
Excellent tour of the old school. I was their from 1959 to 1965. I went there though I lived in Kensington cos a mates brother went there: this was the start of a chain of events that led me to where I live today on the West coast of Sweden. The opportunites were there the teaching was awful with a few exceptions. Some teachers would today face criminal charges for their actions . I remember Mr Franklin an inspiring french teacher who brought in Paris Match for us to read. There was the workshop teacher Eddy Tomlinson"you must have an H pencil!" he said (before the days of CAD). Most of the teachers got jobs after short courses after WW2 and were totally incompetent!
he activley encouraged the other boys to pick on me and called me names himself i will never forgive that man for making me loose all my confidence when i was just a boy. still miss thompson was wonderful miss speed mr clegg some good teachers
Thanks for uploading this Pete - I was at the School from September 1976 to June 1981 and have a mixture of memories - mostly good and a few not so. Your name is familiar, but can't put a face to it. I was in Form Theta and then 4 and 5 C. It has been so strange reading the names of teachers so long buried over 30 years!!! From an educational perspective, the School could have done a lot better for a working class lad - but I suppose things have worked out pretty since leaving. Thanks again.
I hated that place. The last words I heard there were from Horace Aubrey who said " I suggest you leave this office, leave this school and never come back ".
I was there from 1960 - 1964 loved and hated it, some of those teachers were nasty some very good, mixed feelings for me, so sad to see the old school run down like that but thanks for posting.
Robert Grainger I swam so fast in that pool just to get out the other end I think it was permanently in shade and in all the time I was at Wandsworth I never went in the planetarium
Got caned and slippered so much. I was there from 1974 to 1979 I think just after the pupil was brutally stabbed to death. I remember when 5 skin heads from another school bunked off and came to Wandsworth looking for me, so me and 2,000 other kids give em a good kicking plus glue sniffing in wood work, jumping across the little river and cheating in cross country torture. Sports day in Wimbledon was great, proper stadium like the Olympics, bricklaying, metal work, wood work, and painting and decorating think they were trying to tell us something. I was in iota and had the red tie which matched the blazer unlike the green, silver, yellow or blue ones. Had a sadistic form teacher called Mr Allen and if you was late 3 times a week he would slipper you and I was late every day almost on account i would walk to school with my mates form Battersea
was in Delta 1 - 2 - 3 then 4N 1975 to 1979 like most mixed feeling's was lots of bulling at school. Loads of teachers who just love to use the cane. Remember the intercom calling the names out in the morning to go see the head teacher. My brother got a lot of slack when my name was called out was not a easy school always fights every day
1980-1985 1-3 Gamma & 4-5P. Still look back at my old school with a rose tinted glasses. Not sure why as it was 5 years of hell. Still it formed my character and made me the 'man' I am today; thanks to Luscombe, Price & Smethem. God bless you all. Mark Andrews, RIP.
great school, lots of great memories, best friend, Paul Harris, hope your well, wear ever you are!! do you remember bringing the kitten into school, and the teacher Mr Cunningham?
I was there from 1976 to 1981 and i started in 1 alpha to 3 alpha and finished up in 5h .They were good days and yes the water in the pool was freezing . Paul Carter . thats me . If anybody remembers me please send a post and lets talk about the good old days .
+Paul Carter Yeah, I was there from 1979-1986, you must have been leaving when I started (red tie). Hahaha..I remember the freezing pool as well. They were really good days though, this video brought back lots of memories :-)
+Khawar Asif Peter Lester 123NU and then 4f and sporadically 5F. I broke my arm on Gary Small playing Emmanuel at rugby. Remember the riots when it snowed? Russell Burgess, god bless him.
this is when the uk started to fall apart, there were no new kids to replace the leaving ones the population had fallen so badly that schools had to shut down as the rolls were all falling around the country
Was there from 1950 and remember all the fuss with the death of the old king and the subsequent coronation! All of this was nothing however compared to the death of Percy Culverwell! What a fantastc guy!
John (Dick) Barton I was there from 1945. The teachers I remember were, Miss Priest (female teacher due to the war) Clode, Makin, Travers, Kyte, Cowan, Cope-Bond, Tribe (woodwork) Phillimore, (Love tap or a detention) Asher. I am 81 now and have forgotton a lot of them. I would have done much better academically if I had attended the Emanuel school, but I didn't know at the time.
I was there same time as you. Asher the Basher screaming and spitting into the face of some poor sod who misprounced a french word. Chewy Elms(music) so called because he introduced each song with one, chew, three. Can you imagine how these teachers would get on today? I remember the headmaster Raymond King flogging two boys in front of the whole school for petty pilfering in a local shop. They were then expelled. The German teacher (Fenn) had us singing Hitler Youth marching songs in class. You couldn't make it up. Halcyon days not
The german Master was Travers. He was the one with the songs. Fenn was the geography master. I am trying to remember one of the boys that got flogged and then expelled. He was a very good boxer. I was in Pitt B
One of the boys in my year was Alan Carr. He made a fortune getting people to quit smoking, as he had done. He wrote several books, but sadly the damage was done before he gave up and he died of lung cancer.
Bicknell was the boxer. Boys expelled were Gannon and Razzell. Solomon taught geography. Fenn (deputy head) taught german. I'm 84 and I remember it as if it were yesterday. And we all know what a lousy day yesterday was.
Yes Jeff that was me, I was in 4b never got the Harley, had a moped, then a Suzuki trials, but then passed my car test, and bikes went out the window,I do remember you,,,,good class 4b had some good lads in it,I think I was in delta in the lower school,,,,who else do you remember?,I see mick Ives a bit,he uses the same watering hole as me,saw Derek wooldridge a while back,,,,,I wonder what happened to Clive tranter,he was a good mate of mine.wasted my time there really, wish I had have learnt more, but didnt have time to learn,to busy having a good time lol,,,,that bastard de Cruz got me thrown out,for something I didnt say, nasty piece of work,,though to be honest,I was ready to leave anyway,I was getting bored playing cards all day in the common room lol, nice to hear from you get back and let me know if you got any other memories of the old place, sad it went. Really,,,,,,,everyone remembers the place for Lee,s fatal stabbing, remember looking out of the second floor window,he was being carried to the medical room by to prefects I think, blood on his blue gingham shirt, funny how you remember things like that,we shouted down to him you all right Lee,I think he shouted back he was alright,he was in our class right?.anyway nice to hear from you hope to hear from you again cheers steve
No good memories at all. Couldn't wait to leave. Glad they knocked it down. Being the only Turbaned Sikh boy in a school full of 2000 wasn't easy. Felt like an Alien but never gave up. Bullied, tormented and scared is all I remember. One boy in particular made my life difficult. 'Blewitt' . One completely dimwit teacher embarrassed me in front of the whole year of which I still remember vividly. Can't think of anything good to sat about my time there and can honestly state that it defined my nervy, resentful and misjudging character for a long period.
Steve Mackintosh..............I was there 73 to 80. Joined the choir and loved every minute !! I was in 1 Nu then 2 Nu but went to 3 Omega as i struggled to stay in the grammar stream ( Gamma & Nu ). I can still remember the 1 Nu ( 1973 ) register. Byrne, Carter Clemence Collier Coombs Callard Doubledee Eldridge Gibbs Goodliffe Howard Lavey Mackintosh Marney Mallet Millis Morgan Morgen ( Twins ) Nelson Oats Pearce Plumbridge Potter Potter ( Twins ) Schwartz Stevens Walmsley Warren Whittaker Wildey Woods York & Yee I think Coombs & Callard stayed a matter of weeks before leaving..........Yee joined either year 1 or 2 Teachers I remember .......Russell Burgess ......music Steve Millar .......Sociology Miss Carr.....French John Tobin.....French Mr Cobb.......??? Miss Alquardy .......Economics. Mr Clegg.........??? Mr Bacchus.......Headmaster Mr Smetham........Headmaster. Mr Price.........Physics Miss Hyde...........Biology Mr Pike...........??? Some great memories and great classmates .............Cheers Steve
@@hassankiazim6678 Hi I remember a Mr Cobb who was a teacher but can't remember what subject he taught. I do remember he was quite strict. I also remember Mr Norton Taylor who taught History.
I was at Wandsworth School from 1959 to 1963. Whilst I enjoyed the 1st year (Form Master was a Mr B P Price) I hated the last three years. Went back 20 years later as a School Governor , the Head Master was Mr Smetham. Roger Merry-Price
hello there.I was at Wandsworth school from 1958 to 1964.My house was Cromwell (red) and the other houses were Gibbon (blue),Morley (yellow) and Pitt (green). My form master was Mr Abbott and other teachers were Mr backus,Mr Dormon (who died suddenly) and Mr lewinnek.I greatly enjoyed my time there and Mr King was a fine Headmaster. MEMORIES!
The old building(listed) has been converted into posh apartments and a new (religious) low level primary school has been buit on the `new` buiding and playground
@@johnrichardson5700 yeah, Mr Clegg used to love dishing it out. I remember that some of my stupid classmates tested his patients and when Mr Clegg's glasses started to get streamed up, it was game over for that poor Lad. 😂 I would never change those days for anything. The memories... Mod jackets.. Skinheads steel cap.. Afro boys in my class including me.. Scar music.. The police... It now seems like those times was all a dream. I'f only I could re-live it. Oh I forgot the Iron Lady
I was there from 1955 - 1960, can't say I enjoyed it a great deal, but I'd never have enjoyed any school. Even though I did very well I found it fucking boring. Met some good mates and have to admit that as schools went it was very good. It was probably ME that was the problem!! However, I'm very glad I chose Wandsworth Grammar.....and it WAS in 1955, over Sloane. Wandsworth was a beautiful building, it had a charm and warmth with all the red brick facade and beautifully polished wood block floors, unlike Sloane which was a cold, miserable, foreboding place.
Hi steve, I thought it was you.Iwas in 2 eta with clive,me him and a guy called robert thompson used to sit in the back row of dacruz's class laughing our arses of reading mad magazine! That blackboard eraser used to come flying towards us on a regular basis! One day Iwrote guided missile on it,that maggot wasn't happy lol! Clive was a top bloke, but Igot sent up to 3 omega, and didn't see him much after that. They must have recognised my vast intellect (pmsl)and sent me up hahaha! I'd bunked off to go fishing the day lee got killed,Isaw it on the news that evening. We went to infant school in tooting, then in wimbledon, but Ithink he got chucked out of juniors for bad behaviour,Ikept thinking what a waste of a young life.Iremember being permanently on detention, mainly for no uniform,I'll never forgive my parents for sending me to wandsworth,Iwanted to go to elliott,no uniform, and there were girls! I remember sammy smith, god I hated bricklaying,do you remember his catchphrase?'"you wanna act like kiddies'I'll treat you like kiddies "lmfao! And that fucking swimming pool! I almost lost the will to live it was so cold, and that towering twat saunders in physics, when he gave you a bollocking he'd foam at the mouth, and you'd be covered in spit, jesus wept,Ican feel a rant coming onhahah! anyway, enough of my personal hell,Iremember derekwooldridge, mickey payne, bill percy, robert thompson,I'm better with faces though. was it you who punched out that plate glass window? It had wire going through it 'there was blood everywhere, must have left a mark!Anyway, hope I havent bored you! it was good to hear from a wandsworth survivor, take care, jeff.
i just read some comments and i have to agree it was tough at the school, the teachers didnt give a shit and i still have nightmares where i am locked up in the old school at night. miss thompson art teacher was cool, but mr tobin, miss lewis english teacher caused a lot of bullying for me by accusing me of reporting to the head that she was cheating. mr dar geography mis mcateer re, we all called her big mac . so is it all gone now are there houses on the site??
Ms McAteer. I'll never forget that one. RE teacher - do you remember the song about here? Hilarious:):) Tobin was a nightmare. And Clegg was on a different planet. I can only remember the ones that gave me a hard time. Shame as there were some good ones...
Hi Stephan, long time ago since you wrote your comments on this page but my bother just sent me the link... I to went to this shit hole of a school and my heart bleeds for you mate after reading your comments, just felt I had to say our sorry I feel for you still, I to had some god awful days at this dump!! 😒
I was 'ere from 1955 to 61 in Morley D. My brother was called Minge I don't know why, so I became Minge Junior. I remember R. King, Clode, Baccus, Aubrey the vicious Latin master with his wooden roman sword that he brought down edgewise on your knuckles if you got your declensions wrong, the monster Asher, killer Clarke who I think was the one that made us do PE in the nude. The only ones I liked was Chewy Elms and the music master Mr. Burgess who from a now unreliable memory, died quite young.Very unhappy memories of a brutal staff.
In an attempt to make some sort of history for the school they introduced a so called school war cry. I can't remember how it was aspelt but it went something like this. Komarti Komarti Kiari Kiary Wah LPORFTZ Wandsworth. What a load of crap.
Everyone seems to have really good memories for names, my memory for names has never been good. I lived in Battersea and went to Falconbrook school opposite Winstanley estate and left there in 1979 and went to Wandsworth boys school comprehensive from 1979-1985. I used to get the 39 bus outside Falcon House because I lived in Badric Court, the bus stopped at Southfields station and Wandsworth school was just around the corner down Sutherland Grove. I bet the residents are happy the school is closed now and no more packed Dark Maroon blazers walking about, my school tie was red striped. I was in Omega for 3 years and then I think 4H and 5H and then I stayed on the sixth form and left in 1985, I do wish I didn’t go to Wandsworth school and wish I went to Battersea County, not sure why I didn’t 🤷♂️ I remember Mr Clegg, he was our year head and was a nice guy, he used to always give me some sweets Victory V’s. I also remember Mr Hollis who I thought then was so old and was absolutely a crap teacher and I remember Mr Norman for economic’s god I think that’s about it. Students/Friends I remember Dale Hamilton a brilliant guy and the kindest heart, he used to have dreadlocks and then cut them off I think approximately 1981 ? I remember nothing but fond memories with Dale and was so upset when I found out so many years later that he had passed away on holiday I think it was a scooter accident. I do feel 100% that he would have done great things with his life and absolute Top bloke RIP. Nicholas Mathews, Mark Sliman, Hasseeb Ahmad, Michael Dacosta, Steven Savage his mum was a dentist or worked in a dentist and was good friends with Nicholas Mathews which is the only reason I remember Steven and the same as Dale Nicholas was also another great guy. Quite a few went from Falconbrook to Wandsworth school, my mind has gone blank and I can remember faces but not names 🤷♂️ I think I have mixed memories of Wandsworth school and with hindsight I should have kicked the shit out of some of the Kids and I do remember some of there names but they are not worth mentioning. But we are who we are and some are bullies and some are not, thankfully I was never a bully, so of that I am proud of myself.

I went to this school and hated it I saw the bullying and experienced it with a head but to the face by phill I guess a lot of you would no who iam talking about the teachers did not like me from day one because my brothers went there I was not like them, fucking hated it and the teachers for allowing the bullying to go on,got the cane by Bacchus I got it the same time as Steve Davis ,he said what are you wearing just trouser,he had extra short what a dick I was, I tell people about it .
I remember Mr Clegg he was my year teacher from 1979-1984
@@sgd.6830 ...thats it... i remember now.
***** Remember benjamin britton...also mrs newman (and Bachaus ) .
Had forgotten all those names though .
Mr Burgess that was his name. Kevin Tucker
i was there for short time 1973 i am looking for my friend john cob 1973
My class was omega from 1979
Lived in Fulham.I attended Wandsworth school in September 1974-1981. Now live Stateside for the last 9 years in Utah.
i remember one coloured guy i used to hang around with i never forget because i gave him girls gold ring i found 1973 as a gift
Fencing, Archery, Planetarium, cross country, Art, A.clegg , Mitcham, Hill, Snare, Taylor, plumtree, bunyan, stevens, names of teachers.
T-i-t-c-h Mitcham?
Clegg yes, ruddy nosed Bunyan was a racist twat in the end. Got to close to the whisky as well 😂
I went there from Sept. 1970 till 1 March 1977 and sung in the choir until 1973/4
Royal Albert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Salisbury Cathedral etc.
did you know john cob 1973
Russell Burgess the greatest music teacher the world has ever seen.
i am glad i am not alone in feeling that way some of the teachers allowed bullying which made me attempt suicide at 15 years old and when i returned to school i was treated like a leper bloody bastards, i now am a writer and singer so i pulled through glad you did too mate:)
+Graham Willson I was in Pitt D a few years after you.
+Graham Willson yep, also 1955-60 Morley C similar memories especially the choir.
So sad from a Wandsworth boys school pupil
I was at Wandsworth as a pupil from 1965 -1972 , went and trained as a teacher and came back in the art department 1975 -80. I can honestly say I had a good time.
peter bainton I was there from 74 to 79 you probably taught me at some point. I remember an art teacher in the old building who had a dog she was old I don’t know her name
@@davidmccarthy6053 Art teacher was Daphne Rock?
Spelt baccus incorrectly lol
Wish I’d taken the time to revisit the old place in the years after I left. I was there from 1960 to 66.
Tragically a kid in my year I knew as he lived on the Argyll Estate and I seem to remember attended the same Cub Pack, the First Southfields when we were younger, (I think his name Ken Worthy) drowned in the school pool during a lunchtime swimming session, after he’d eaten lunch, something we were all lectured about never doing!
Oh yeah the pool that was so cold,When you jumped in the shock nearly killed you..Oh the memories.
De Cruz was my form tutor, brilliant guy I thought, escorted us nut cases to trip to France with his kid!😂
John Barber (Ali) I was at Wandsworth Grammar from 1955 - 1959. I was in 1 Gamma for the first year, but I think I went down as I was a very naughty boy! Mixture of painful and happy memories. Nice video - well done.
My dad won a scholarship to this school in the 50's. Sad to hear the building is gone now?
another boy i remember in my class he was always shouting crystal palace
There are houses on the land now. All over those lovely playing fields and swimming pool
77 to 81. That bastard Mr. Sankey and Mr. Molyneux. I still have nightmares.
i remember jonh cob name because he took me to his house when i run away from home i never forget
No pictures of the new frontage, soose all that was ripped down first. Mr Da Cruz was my form tutor, brilliant man, and lived on Siutherland Grove 😂
so is this what my school looked like?
I was there 1953 - 1958, Gibbon house, Bacchus for Latin, Cope-Bond for PE, Burgess for Music, H Raymond-King Headmaster. School keeper used to wash his dog in the swimming pool.
Very sad, some great memories, 1967 to 1972 I was in the fencing club and the only thing I was good at!
Steve Burgess I was in there as well (untill thwe kid got killed by the teacher (safty plastic at the end broke off ..ended breaking him too).
Professor Simmons was his name, great bloke and completely barmy
Prof Simmons was still there when i started there(1980-85)
He was still throwing foils across the room even then
Did you go to John Milton School as well?
Brought a lump to my throat. Ahh, the memories! I was there 1974 to 1979.!
did you know john cob
he activley encouraged the other boys to pick on me and called me names himself i will never forgive that man for making me loose all my confidence when i was just a boy. still miss thompson was wonderful miss speed mr clegg some good teachers
Coldest swimming pool in the world at that school

Mr Allen was a sadistic bully who got pleasure from inflicting pain on boys.
was in Delta 1 - 2 - 3 then 4N 1975 to 1979 like most mixed feeling's was lots of bulling at school.

Mark Andrews, RIP.

this is when the uk started to fall apart, there were no new kids to replace the leaving ones the population had fallen so badly that schools had to shut down as the rolls were all falling around the country
Was there from 1950 and remember all the fuss with the death of the old king and the subsequent coronation! All of this was nothing however compared to the death of Percy Culverwell! What a fantastc guy!
John (Dick) Barton
I was there from 1945.
I just remembered one of the boys that was expelled for stealing. His name was Bicknell.
Bicknell was the boxer. Boys expelled were Gannon and Razzell. Solomon taught geography. Fenn (deputy head) taught german. I'm 84 and I remember it as if it were yesterday. And we all know what a lousy day yesterday was.
DaCruz still lives right opposite the school in sutherland grove

No good memories at all. Couldn't wait to leave. Glad they knocked it down. Being the only Turbaned Sikh boy in a school full of 2000 wasn't easy. Felt like an Alien but never gave up. Bullied, tormented and scared is all I remember. One boy in particular made my life difficult. 'Blewitt' . One completely dimwit teacher embarrassed me in front of the whole year of which I still remember vividly. Can't think of anything good to sat about my time there and can honestly state that it defined my nervy, resentful and misjudging character for a long period.

in my class 1973 turkish cypriot friend i use sell my dinner ticket to
what i remember 1973 we used to by number 6 cigarets for one & half pence each & smoked in the bicycle shed & play penny up the wall
I remember Aubery, he joined us at rugby and used to hand off tacklers with a closed fist. I had a couple of bloody noses due to him.
In an attempt to make some sort of history for the school they introduced a so called school war cry. I can't remember how it was aspelt but it went something like this. Komarti Komarti Kiari Kiary Wah LPORFTZ Wandsworth. What a load of crap.
1979 - 1984
+T-i-t-c-h You must have started the same time as me...which class were you in?
at very start went to nu, then i walked out of there and ended up in omega
+T-i-t-c-h I was in Nu too. I do remember your name...:-)
I was in Omega for 3 years and then I think 4H and 5H and then I stayed on the sixth form and left in 1985, I do wish I didn’t go to Wandsworth school and wish I went to Battersea County, not sure why I didn’t 🤷♂️
I remember Mr Clegg, he was our year head and was a nice guy, he used to always give me some sweets Victory V’s.
77-82 form teacher mr gibbons head of year saunders.form theta
i was in your class
me too
Jeff yes that was me who punched out the glass, what an idiot lol when I spoke to del wooldridge he said some of the lads turned to drugs and never seen again.yes I remember Sammy smith, all said and done he was a good teacher ,remember Hartley? I think he wasteaching physics? Big bloke ex desert rat not the full ticket but a good bloke until he lost it ,remember him throwing mick Hudson across the room, and Hudson running for his life lol, kids dont know there born at school now days, getting the slipper, the cane the ruler or whatever came to hand,we never went how crying to our parents,if you got a wallop you desrevedd it,never did Any harm, fuck me now days if it happened they would sue for millions, now it seems they can whack a teacher but if the teacher hits back he is nicked crazy!get back Jeff I'm sure we have many more memories
Probaly thinks he is Zorro ..lol
