Amazing how good Cedar and Cliff go together. From the amazing 'Night at Boomers'-albums, through 'Glass Bead Games' and the 'On Stage'-trilogy and beyond. I love them and can't get enough. Also I love Billy of course.
Great video. Great quartet. Cedar, Clifford, David and Billy. I love Clifford Jordan. He is fantastic and so under-rated. I saw him in a jazz club in Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1992.
Clifford Jordon was definitely one of the great unsung greats of the tenor sax, one of my favorites. His association with Charles mingus is one of his most artistly memorable periods of his career.
Perhaps his moment with Mingus was the most famous moment of his career (and a great moment for sure), but the most "artistically memorable period" was definitively the 1970s-mainly with Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins. If you don't know CJ's "Glass Bead Games", check it out then you'll see what I mean.
@@seriouslyswingnjazz Sure! I don't remember the title of the first tune, Clifford's original( I used to play it with him) , 2nd - Quasimodo(Charlie Parker), 3. - Third Avenue (Clifford Jordan) 4.- every time 5. - House on Mapple Street (Cedar Walton) I think this is all. Thanks again for a wonderful upload!
Hey vova, it has two names, the usual one is “Eyewitness Blues” which occasionally I’ve seen subtitled “Ditty for a City”. The other title is the name of that city which is a very long name and I can’t remember it for the life of me Edit: I found it, Ouagadougou. I've got a bootleg from Munich in 1987, Clifford, Slide and Philly Joe (don't know the rest of the band) where Clifford introduces it
@krjazz @seriouslyswingnjazz Awesome, thank you for uploading this! The only performance and recording I like better (especially in regards to sound quality) is "Clifford Jordan Quartet - Live At Ethell's" on Mappleshade Records. CD available on Online at the MAPPLESHADESTORE. Stereophile Review: "Simply one of the most natural-sounding jazz discs I have heard. The crystal clear ambience (a squeak of the hi-hat, the clink of a wine glass, the audience’s chuckles of delight) make this CD a pristine vignette of jazz as it was meant to be heard: Live." Cheers!
Have you heard Clifford Jordan's "On Stage" recordings (also w/ Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins) from 1975 ? They are incredible live recordings as well.

Wow. Clifford Jordan in fine form here!
Billy Higgins was a master, from Free Jazz to Mmainstream, a reverse journey, but always extraordinary.
La Rai che trasmette Cedar Walton e Billy Higgins, io non ho parole
Veramente...
Brilliantly executed!!David and Billy!!Long roll at the very end says it all!!

Notice The Higgins using a larger Hihat bottom cymbal to give a better sound!!I played with them at Billy’s house…His cymbals were extraordinary!

ビリー最高👍👍👍cool
What was the date of this concert?
April 26, 1985
Later than the "Golden Era" of this group. (1973-1976) but still extraordinary
