Fun fact: There is a specific protein in cat saliva that triggers the allergic reaction in humans. There are several cat species that produce LESS of this specific protein than others. So, someone who is allergic to cats could, in theory, still get a pet cat.
I have allergic like jaden too and I have 3 cats. I'm just not gonna put my face into their fur or sumthin but I can still pet them and then wash my hands after that. No problem.
When a cat chooses you as their owner/per it’s an amazing experience. I’m thankful to not be allergic to animals, just trees and grass. Mom’s cat, Tiger, was left under a tree in the yard, was the size of your palm, he’s got asthma and vision issues, but he’s a sweet baby.
I've only had one tortie but she was a love bug. We took her in when she was pregnant and she insisted on sleeping between my knees. She had her kittens on my bed and appointed me babysitter when she had to go take care of her own needs. 28 years ago. I miss her.
I have two black cats. I fully intended to put my foot down and tell my wife we were only getting one. At the shelter, she was holding one of the boys and saying "honey, he's purring". At that point, I knew we were getting two cats. Now I don't want think about my life without Shadow and Calamity.

one of my cats is a smol boy named loki. he TRULY lives up to his namesake. hes about 6lbs smaller than our large cat. our big cat is just mixed with bengal and hes so long and tall. his "little" brother terrorizes him. and he never tries to fight him he just tries to run from the small kitty.
@@jonharrison5869 he truly EMBODIES the name. Always causes chaos, if you lock eyes with him (God help you) and he'll do it again... just to make sure you understand who's boss.
Cat adoption story time: my wife found a little kitten behind her car while at my parents house. My wife went out and it didn't move, its eyes were gooped shut and when she wiped its eyes puss just ran down his face. Took him to the vet, he couldn't hold his own temperature dehydrated. She was told he probably wouldn't survive the night. Well he did, we had to keep him inside a jacket next to our bodies and syringe feed him. We named him Westley because he was only mostly dead.
For those wondering, the act of slowly developing immunity to poison by taking small does is called "Mithridatism" after the king of Pontus who invented it. While it does work it is *extremely* dangerous and easy to mess up and can have long term health problems even when done correctly. So please just enjoy the anime or movie or whatever knowing that it's a real thing but leave it in the entertainment rather then your real life.
I don't know why but I think black cats can give you good luck. One teacher at my school told me she got a black cat, after it sadly passed away 2 black cats appeared at some point around her home so she got them both.
Allergies are the worst! Especially pet allergies. Like how dare they keep the animal babies from us! The comment about tortoise shell cats and then Jaiden getting a sweet one really shows that stereotypes don't always add up. Always love good animal stories. Spite, you're absolutely an animal magnet and super insightful with pets. Also 4:31 ayo?
Honestly the story of Taylor sitting in Jaiden's lap reminds me of a time I slept over at a friend's place. Woke up to his cat laying on my chest and if I shifted like I was gonna get up she lightly 'reminded' me to not move with her claws... I felt like I was her hostage.
You are so adorable and loveable spite thank you for being yourself and making such phenomenal content and putting smiles on thousands and thousands and thousands of people’s faces and making our lives tons better so please continue being yourself because we’ll always love and support you
Spite, there was a king a couple thousand years ago that tested the poison thing. He was so scared of being poisoned that he actually microdosed all kinds of poison, which made him immune to a lot of them. Eventually his empire was invaded and rather than be paraded like a trophy he wanted a dignified end so he tried to poison himself, which failed because he had built up a severe immunity. So he stabbed himself to death.😂 His name was Mithridates the Great. Interesting guy, really.
All of my cats are rescued/ snatched. They were abandoned, and I adopted them. The newest kitten was dropped off somewhere nearby and found her way to my shed, and now she lives inside (where she belongs).
7:30 I actually have a tortoise shell who is super affectionate to the point of seeking out attention more often than ignoring people. Though she could be the exception cuz she was a stray kitten when I found her
The restaurant I work at, about a year ago we found a stray kitten eating from out bins, it must of had some parent prior who taught it to fear humans cause it would run away if it could sense us We decided to give it food but we simply couldn’t earn its trust and then once it grew up they simply left 😢
I am allergic to both cats and dogs, but for whatever reason if I'm sitting by myself for like 30 minutes on a front porch, a random dog will just show up. even cats sometimes, it has happened so often that my parents gave me the nickname Bait when I was a kid
My family’s dogs have all been from Gumtree, Australia’s more high-class answer to Craigslist. They haven’t been breeder dogs to be clear. They’ve been ‘we thought we were ready for this responsibility and it turns out we aren’t’ dogs.
There are some cats that depending on the environment that they grew up in will grow attached to a single person and will only love and show affection to their person. While others will be grumpy due to having too much energy and you should play with them more, playing not only uses that extra energy but also creates a bond with the cat letting them know that they can act like a kitten again and that your home is now their home too, after all while growing up in certain environments will cause a cat to be more cautious and scared of anything larger than them so they act more aggressive and play less. Of COURSE treats also help lower that barrier but you should be slow with the approach rushing it too quickly will make them think the treats are a trap and than its much harder to get them to trust you.
I knew a tortie when she was a kitten! It was clear she chose me, which her dad, her actual owner, did not like. She was a sweetheart but sadly I didn't get to keep her. He snatched her from my arms the day he left. I mean I get she was his cat, but I was just saying goodbye.
Jaiden is right, birds are a lot of work (especially to give them good quality of life.) I volunteered at a parrot rescue -- a LOT of parrots get surrendered -- and realized that despite loving birds all my life, I'm not a good fit to care for them. There's lots of commonplace items you have to avoid having around birds for their safety, and if they get sick you have to hope an avian vet isn't too far away. (Seen multiple stories of well-meaning, competent regular vets misdiagnosing birds' ailments, unfortunately.) People see the cute side of birds online and adopt one but seldom realize the work behind the scenes unless the video or picture taker goes out of their way to emphasize it. The closest thing to a 'beginner' bird might be a pigeon, but parrots tend to be what folks gravitate towards. Anyway sorry for long ramble, I just love birds and want the best for them. Volunteering at a rescue was an eye-opener and I like sharing what I learned for the birds' sakes.
Fun fact that made me like way cat less: Cats have a transmissible parasite that makes people like cat A LOT (ex: cat ladies have a lot of them). This parasite has existed since ancient Egypt and it usually infect mouses to have them go toward cats.
This reminds me of Stephenvlog. Him, and his wife, Mallory, are totally cat people. It was during an early vlog that he said, "I'm really proud of us, we didn't leave with no less than 2 cats." 🤣🤣🤣 Unfortunately, much later on, 1 of them died, yet the other one, (Kepler) is still alive. It's on medication, as it's really old, and it's health isn't as good. I've been a dog person all my Life, yet I still love both.
You can get cats and birds to grow up knowing that the cats and birds will get along well, just gotta make sure they grow up together so you break the habits early, or get an older cat that is too lazy and let kitten watch the reaction of the older cat and most of the time the kitten will learn not to mess with bird... Although this only works if the kitten hasn't been living on the streets long enough to learn birds are edible and tasty.
3:15 I'm sure this goes without saying, but this rule holds true with dogs as well. In my book, at least. To the point where I've legitimately sent friends pictures of me underneath one or more of my dogs with a caption ranging from "I'll be another few minutes I think" to "MY TIME HAS COME, IT'S TOO LATE FOR ME!" EDIT: 20:29 Ah, yes...the Internet: Where the men are men, the women are men, and the little girls are FBI agents. :P
As a pet ethologist with cats as my specialty I can tell you there are a lot of misconceptions regarding cats, also among cat owners. A couple from this video are that tortoiseshell cats are meaner than other cats, that's false, that cats are a major problem for small birds is also false, birds aren't even part of their natural food chain, small rodents are. Cat's are however opportunists so they will take a bird if given the chance. The hunting drive is high in cats and that's why you on a regular basis should play with them and then give them food right after to satisfy their needs so they don't develop behavioral problems like attacking your ankles and things of that nature, this also lessens their need to hunt if you have them outside, so if you worry about birds play more with your cat and make sure they eat enough. There are a lot of wives tails about cats out there and most of them are completely wrong.
