      For those wondering, the term "spanner" is British for the word "wrench," which is British slang for "a stupid person."
      For those wondering, British is a language derived from English, but with sillier words.

      High on my list. I love it and once again there's nothing like in in their entire catalogue. They master an era/subgenre on their first try then walk away.

    As a fan of Band Maid I kept a bit quiet when I first listened to the album. Like Chemical Reaction it was a wall of sound and no fishing line for me to grab the hook and be swept up. On repeat listens however, again like this song, it began to not only have a tasty ear worm on the hook but an entire fishing net became available to become trapped in. May have over done the whole fishing thing. But in the end, cow bell or no cow bell, the song is repeatable. Which is what Band Maid are good at.

    This and FATE are real stompers. Just a lot of basic fun and for an old guy like me this brings back a whole era. More cowbell. 😁 As the old Judas Priest song says: Heavy metal, what do you want?

    In the context of the album as a whole the 4 songs before this are: I Still Seek Revenge, H-G-K, Sayonakidori then, Why Why Why kind of melt your brain and you need something simple... like cow bell.

    I had a generally similar reaction, Mark. It felt a little different for them. Apparently, this song started out as an idea Misa had so that might explain why. Initially, I thought, okay, it's just okay. I did dig the Alice-in-Chains-like/neo-pysch intro guitar line and like the heavy guitar tone but I wasn't sold. Then, of course, they got closer to the bridge and solo and things started to shift. You wouldn't care but that guitar solo and the accompanying music is f*cking nuts. Brilliant. Still not in my favorites for them but like all of their stuff, there are always turns and surprises that make just about every song unskippable. You never know exactly what's about to happen in the next bar.

    In an interview about Unseen World, Miku said they wanted some songs that were a back to the roots (Genten Kaiki) element from their earliest albums, so things in the spirit of Freezer, Arcadia Girl or Shake That. I consider "Chemical Reaction" an homage to 70's music. Kanami was experimenting with this but I love it. Ittakes me back to my youth. Thumping bass, hard driving drum beats complete with cowbell. Kanami used fuzz tones and the wah wah pedal. At the end of the song there is a subtle but real tribute to a person considered the great rock and roll guitarist of all-time. Who, you ask. Jimi Hendrix. There is a fade out with the warbling rifts that reminded me of "Purple Haze" or "Foxy Lady". Clever Kanami!!!!!

Like Manners, my first song with Band Maid, they seem also to test different ideas on this album. Not sure, but have you checked the MV for Warning? There is also an online live. Otherwise, Giovanni is an intersting composition. Have fun! :)

    Love this song, to me it's one of their most late 60's / early 70's songs and sounds like a Deep Purple / Atomic Roster mashup, absolutely not metal in any shape or form. The other interesting thing to me is Kanami's intro lead/riff that is repeated during the song sounded instantly familiar to me, it screamed 1967 but I couldn't think of the song. However after extensive digging I eventually found it in the 1968 song Paradise Lost by The Herd (Peter Frampton) th-cam.com/video/p5HZKDQzeLU/w-d-xo.html . Incidentally, I gather Akane didn't want to use cowbell, she wanted to use the cymbal bell but Kanami insisted, also Misa took a big role in the composition and she has said that this is the song that is closest to her musical tastes.

    Sometimes it serves no purpose to try to categorize a Band-Maid song. Each one is what it is. This old boy's eyes and ears just sees this as one flat out old school rock banger. Nothing fancy, just good rock. One of my favorites.

    Normally, I'm not a cowbell kind of guy. I trust Kanami's instinct on this one. At least she didn't call for " church bell " or " service counter bell " or " tricycle bell "...they all would have sucked royally .

    A lot of the song sounds like they're covering a KISS song, 'God Of Thunder', or something like that. Great Bass, but it needs a Music Video, though I'm not sure it's worth one. To many other songs on the list in front of it. But I gotta have more cowbell! I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more Cowbell!

  • @BillHallisey
    @BillHallisey 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    Sorry, I forgot to add this bit. There is a phrase that discribed 70's music and culture. The phrase - Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll. There is a chemical reaction from males and females when sex is involved. Drugs obviously create a chemical reaction. Rock and roll also created a chemical reaction. When you hear great rock and roll, your body has to move, your muscles twitching and jumping. Miku was again clever with the title and the lyrics. "You have no choice".

    Genres...I can't believe that in comments on previous Band Maid songs no one has observed that they span all known genres.

    Here for the #Science. Kanami is incapable of writing a shitty song, but this is the least Kanami, least inspired song she's put out there, IMO. If The Warning came out with this, minus the solo, I'd not think it was out of place with rest of their songs in terms of composition. Good, but you know there's better to come.

    My main question after this is: does the addition of cowbell have any impact on how emo a song is? Based on the Scale, it should have no bearing, being neither guitar nor vocals, but... I feel cowbell is more powerful than that. More research is needed.

    Not my favourite Band-Maid song. There are parts in this song I do like....... But I hate the "Cow bell" in principle. This is (for me) Meh Band-.Maid song. Try something different (which is ok......looking at you "Start Over" )...... hence no official MV. Having said that, it could have been waaaaaaaaaay worse. NO MORE COWBELL. Leave that for the hair-metal bands.
