Hi ! Thanks for your viewing,
ART EDUCATION proposes in this episode # 34 to start from the murals of Jimmy Richer exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lyon in France and to ask the question of the differences existing between a dry painted fresco, on a dry wall, a fresco "affresco" or "buon fresco" in Italian (where the pigments are placed on a wet plaster), a graffiti (to be distinguished from a vandalism tag) and to finish with other contemporary murals.
The macLYON inaugurates with Jimmy Richer, artist born in 1989 in Montpellier, a new format of exhibitions entitled Crossover, intended to create a dialogue between works from the museum's collection (here the work of Thomas Feuerstein "Prometheus delivered") and emerging artists.
Crossover Anglicism refers to the world of graphic fiction, in which characters from distinct series are brought together as antagonists, protagonists, or allies.
In Greek mythology, for having given fire to mortals, the titan Prometheus is condemned by Jupiter to be attached to a rock, an eagle coming every day to devour his liver which regenerates every night. In Thomas Feuerstein's work, the sculpture of the Chained Prometheus is eaten away by stone-eating bacteria, as a device gradually nourishes artificial liver cells. Mythology and science enter into an allegorical dialogue which seems to question the possible futures of humanity.
It is by taking an interest in fire as a physical and historical phenomenon that Jimmy Richer analyzes the challenges of this history through a mural painted opposite the work of Thomas Feuerstein. Fire, embodied here by a comet associated with the figure of Prometheus, testifies to the existence of this element, whether it comes from the sky or whether it appears spontaneously in nature, long before its use by humanity.
Jimmy Richer investigates the origin of myths, traditions and stories. The invention of the myth of Prometheus was, according to the artist, a way for humans to give meaning, however mythological and irrational, to the scientific and technological potential of firebending.
      Plastic vocabulary:
