    Great video, I always love to see the vintage stuff at work no matter what color it is. Brings back some real good memories of the "good old days".

    I grew up on WD45 and D17 tractors. Used to cut a lot of hay with an AC mower like yours. I remember raking and baling, the baler was an IH of the same type. A lot of memory's of 60 or so years ago.

    I learned to drive an Allis CA and thought I was in heaven getting to drive out new 1964 D-17 at the time. We still have that series III on the farm and use it routinely yet. The two speed hand clutch was one of the best things created
    The only thing it never had on it was a manure loader. We even mounted a model 190 picker on it for a few years. I plan to have it fully restored in the next year or so . The sheet metal is still in great shape and it has the original lights with the half moon light directors. At the time it was purchased my late uncle and some neighbors wondered how we would ever pay for it. We did and the farm continued to grow until we owned a 7040 and a gleaner combine. That same D-17 also ran a single row Gehl chopper as we filled roughly 30 silos with corn silage each fall until we got bigger equipment. It's got a lot of family history from it's life on this farm.

    Thanks for the video. The old A C s were hard to beat. I'm retired now but AC s were mostly what I used.

    Loved the video of the old AC equip. at work. All my experience was on my Grandfathers farm, and he had no particular brand loyalty. Worked with Ford, MF, IH, and JD, actually learned to drive on an old (not at the time) 8n Ford. I was too light to depress the clutch and made up for it by putting both feet on the petal and pulling up on the steering wheel. Made for a dicey minute or two if I didn't watch out for inclines. My brothers somehow wound up as AC dealers. I still love the old stuff, thanks for shareing.

    Retired now. I was a MF man, but had a friend who was AC. I always liked the D series tractors and the 100 series. Anyway that is the way I always made hay with the exception that I used a haybine for the mowing and conditioning. Great video. Oh, ya! Your daughter did great by the looks of things.

      Thank You for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure of the corn as it was the neighbors. It's hard to see but the corn field is about 12" lower than the hay field. About 7 years ago we had corn that was 2 feet over the cab of the Gleaner M combine, which would of made the corn about 14 feet tall. Thought I was lost when I was combining that corn. Talk about not able to see the field through the corn. LOL

    I like the suspension seat on the CA. It looks like it is from tractor supply. Haying is for the young, and I have done more than my share in the past.

    • @The1952caallis
      @The1952caallis  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm 6' 4" tall and all legs so when driving the CA I could used a little more leg room. I tried to find the after market add on transmission that would give me 6" more room but could not find anyone that wanted to sell me one. So when the standard pan seat needed to be replaced I purchased a seat that gave me more leg room. As for the baling you are correct, I sure do feel my age when baling and have been getting the next generation more involved. Thanks for watching!

    • @EZ570
      @EZ570 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had switched my CA to 12 volts. I replaced the generator and its mounting bracket with a 12 volt self exciting alternator, a 12 volt battery and a 12 volt coil. I switched it to a negative ground, requiring the wires to be switched on the coil and battery. I replaced the on/off key switch with a single pole double throw toggle switch which isolates current from the alternator from continually energizing the coil and points after shutting off the on/off switch with the engine and thus the alternator still turning.
      I have since replaced the CA with a Ford 1710 high crop offset cultivating tractor. It has power steering, high clearance, great brakes that work in both directions and an efficient diesel.
