    I sure miss those things. It seems like just yesterday when I was an operator in 1955.

      And the day before yesterday when Biden “operated “ one just like he “drove “ an 18 wheeler 🚛.🥴

    I'm a grader operator and getting close to retirement. This machine was quite advanced for it's time. The new Cats are joystick controlled and all wheel drive with traction control and have enclosed cabs. They have 14 forward pointing LED lights for night work.

      How were the knuckle busters on these? Familiar with the Adams grader with the mechanical controls.

    Awesome machine for the time , it reminds me of the Cat 14 E motor grader . Those were the days ! 👍👍👍👍

    Love the old equipment. Might have been a little harder to run than the new stuff but it still, got the job done.

    These days, you take a machine to the dealer for repairs and they'll find every reason they can't figure out what's wrong, to keep racking up the bill. These guys back then made it very clear they didn't want you to have to fix it, they didn't want it to break on you.

    • @Parents_of_Twins
      @Parents_of_Twins 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Or be like John Deere and not even allow you to work on your own machine. Whatever happened with that anyways? Did they stop that BS or are they still like that? My dad has a friend who bought a brand new tractor and they would charge him from the time they left their shop until they got back home for the work they did on his machine. Stuff he could have done but would have invalidated the warranty or something like that. Bunch of BS in my opinion. If I paid several hundred grand for a new machine I'd work on it whether they liked it or not.

    The hardest thing about running one of those was turning it around ! Backing up wasn't a bad option for sure . Put the blade down and that MACHINE was unstoppable !!! . Very powerful !

    • @dbx1233
      @dbx1233 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blues Man, to turn it around, we would get out and lift the front end off the ground and physically turn this behemoth around. Sure that's a lot of weight but we were young and strong and didn't know better.

    I drove the Adams grader and I can tell you those mechanical controls truly earned the nickname knucklebusters. Not to bad if the resistance is low but quite a pain when you need to get into something. Still a lot better than nothing since the county wasn't taking care of the county road will lived on someone needed to be able to plow snow and grade spring time ruts out. Cleared a fair number of trees and other stuff with that machine as well.

    516 was the same used in the HD11 dozer. This was a Buda holdover. The supercharger is quite an interesting item on a 4 stroke diesel. It was not on the 11 I ran. It was naturally aspirated and said Buda Diesel on the exhaust manifold. I don't know if it was a used replacement or an early machine as the later ones had Allis Chalmers.

    What is the purpose of the leaning front wheels?

    • @johndowe7003
      @johndowe7003 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      so when youre pushing with the blade it tends to push the tractor to the side trying to make the blade go straight instead of at an angle so the wheels tilt to the opposite side to counteract this
