Australian Sprintcar Fan here. I love watching these Silver Crown Cars, though I have to say I enjoy them much more on dirt. But I have a question for you American's. What are the major differences between Silver Crown Cars, and Sprintcars? Is it just engine size? They look wider, so is it the frame? (they also look a bit wider, too)
The rear cone containing the Petrol (Gas) Tank, looks different, but I just thought it was because they raced longer distances than Sprintcars but then I have realised thought how much Sprintcars and their rears have seemed to have "shrunk" over the years, or at least changed shape. I also noticed that these cars will run anywhere that Sprintcars seem to run, like from a dirt "bullring" to large pavement ovals such as this one.
Anyway, if there's anyone out there who'd like to address my questions, I'd be very appreciative of the answers given. The more detailed the better!! So thanks again American Oval Track race fans, for any and all answers you may have.!!

Your observations of the differences between the two cars is very sharp. Longer wheelbase and heavier with a minimum 60 gallon fuel tank for the longer race distances. Engine displacement is 355 c.i. and must be self starting. Two way radios for communication with spotters. Also two races on one mile dirt tracks that have been held for decades for open wheel cars.
Silver Crown series continues a tradition or IndyCar racing as it was before the rear engine revolution of the 1960's.
Thank you for reaching out. I respect and enjoy watching Australian motorsports as well.

Silver crowns are basically the USAC Route that indycar went to during the 70s split, and what makes them different than sprint cars is not only that they run both dirt and asphalt, but that they even run tracks over a mile, this is why they have a longer wheelbase. I also assume they have a more rigid, durable roll cage to compensate with the higher speeds, although they aren't necessarily faster than sprint cars since they weigh more and have arguably weaker engines, and no wing, but they just race bigger tracks.

But they are still good on small tracks. One ofthe best races I ever saw was 150 lapper at Berlin, a 7/16 mile oval. If remember correctly it was the first win for one of the Swanson boys.
They could put on a good show at alot of different places. Surprising they don't have a bigger schedule
