I this this one is dope! But to be honest he's been one of my most favorite instrumentalists to ever exist\that still puts out new music, for well over a decade now. Whenever I meet a metal fan that's never heard of Andy James before, I always compare him to the awesome N64 soundtrack for the game F-ZERO-X and how he's one of the few to be able to compose music that actually resembles the speed metal I listened to for all of my childhood! Andy James for me will always remain as the time traveling Nordic Viking God from a Valhalla in a dimension where electricity exists. And has decided to bless us mortal humans with his glorious yet beautiful metal!
SaganNotPagan I've seen Guthrie Govan passed year ago. He's absolutely one of the most talented guitarist this century. But as we can see he's not a metal head like Andy james.
I hate when people say when a certain kind of music or player "lacks soul." There's no way to define "soul," and everyone expresses it in their own way.
Andy James is one of the most under-rated guitarists in the world today. Not only can he shred like a bastard, but when he plays non-shred stuff, it's just as amazing.
Its incredible how andy can mix technique, speed precision, and feeling without killing any of these! I may not like his band, but his career is amazing!
so awesome to see that sometimes those hours of practice can pay off! its inspiring. he probably started off practicing so hard and like all of us everyone told he would never be successful but here he is. his job is his dream. makes me so happy :) i dont think im quite dedecated enough to get that far and i just play for enjoyment but its still awesome.

I've listened, learned, and stolen from all the greats; Malmsteen, Gilbert, Moore, Vai, etc. but I have to say, Andy James is SO MINDBOGGLINGLY BEYOND the aforementioned players it's NOT,... EVEN,... FUNNY,... Normally, I'm not at all interested in picking "winners' and losers" in regard to music, and I don't intimate to do that here, but I do want it to be known that Andy James is a guitar genius of the first order and should be recognized as such,... even though he is still so young,... It's obvious, the guy is extremely talented, and works extremely hard at his craft, and is EXTREMELY generous with his knowledge to his fans. Take it from a veteran shredder,... Andy James is the best of them all!!!
Yeah he's hot, but Petrucci's still the best! He'll need to come up with some hair-raising intensely "feeling" solos, like Breaking All Illusions or Lines In The Sand to truly be at JP's level. He's certainly got the shred part though!

That's like saying Elton John is better than Bach or Beethoven, or something, it's just silly. Yeah, he's great in his own right, but he's not a better pianist than either Legend, and he'd probably agree without flinching.

I just came here to enjoy the music. He shreds, and the chorus melody has feeling. AND it is also in Dorian, which isn't very common to use in Metal so kudos to Andy!
I appreciate alot of different types of music and usually dont like to pick a "best" since they play how they want but straight up this is the best guitarist i have ever had the pleasure to watch. I like his style better than legends like Jimi H. ( which is a guitar god in his own right ) but Andy shreds soooo hard!
I talked to Andy like a week ago at a clinic in cologne and asked him this very same question. He said that he just uses whatever works for him. That day he used Dunlop Ultex .73, I believe.

I think the way he is able to keep the lead melodies flow perfectly throughout the song is the most impressive element to his song writing.
