    If your back swing is smooth and under controlled, your delivery also will be smooth and under controlled...... Great tips there sir..... Thank you

    When I look back at this video I realise that this is absolute gold. A slow backswing & a slight pause not only gives us a controlled straighter delivery, it gives us more power if needed

    Do you deliberately pause after the backswing?
    In this video your pause after the backswing is longer compared to the videos where you're making centuries in line-up or making century wearing a head cam
    How long should the back pause be?

    Hey nic,
    Should one have a pressure free arm(pendulum) or a little bit of power/tension is ok?
    Coz during the delivery, in order to ^control^ the cue for the first inch or so, my grip hand gets tensed and i end up squeezing the grip. Hence my arm is not free flowing, starts with tension ends in squeeze.
    Many thanks.

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if we are back of vertical that gives tension which makes speed control more difficult.

    I have a long backswing ang huge follow through. However for close shots I reduce the backswing. I can play very long and deep screw backs easily. But I cannot make big breaks , I tried to play all the shots with only 2 inches backswing and I made my first 70 break. However I can feel lots of body movement, jerkiness playing with short backswing and of course I couldn't play those long/deep screw and firmness shots with short backswing.
    What do you recommend ? Should I change my long backswing to short backswing ? My cuing is a lot smooth with long backswing however as I said short backswing helped me to make a big break but it feels not so smooth etc. and also how do I practice to get used to short backswing if you do recommend
    Tnx

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Practice backswing control bringing tip back to V. So, line up on a shot and make the full backswing, then stop - and don't play the shot. Do this until you you have 10 perfect backswing every day before you start playing. After one week you will be more accurate with your natural and full backswing
      Nic

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do backswing practice - so practice aiming a shot and pulling the tip back all the way to the V. Continue until you have done ten perfect backswings before playing every day. After ten sessions you will have more cueing freedom and control than before. Slowing the backswing down to Shaun Murphy tempo may also help you as it does other players.

    • @medallion39
      @medallion39 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Snooker Gym hi there. Pool player here but love your stuff. You recommend drawing back to V. That being said on a softer shot would you still draw back to V? If so would you shorten bridge hand placement?

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep bridge length same, and pull back shorter - as most players who pull back all the way on soft shots tend to over hit the ball

    I always cue well when playing follow through or stun, but when trying to play a deep-screw shot, sometimes i misque. I don't know how to improve it?

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Practice cueing flatter like a piston on the delivery, and stay in position for 3 seconds after the shot (ESPECIALLY after you miscue) so that you can evaluate the flatness of your delivery.

  • @stephenharris8364

    Are there any good drills that help with this

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes Stephen you can just try potting the cue ball on its own (at different speeds), then play a simple pot, then progressively tougher pots... to expose whether your cueing collapses under certain shot speeds and difficulties

    Hi Nick,
    I was just wondering if you have ever heard of a cue manufacturer called Mark Richards -hand made. I bought a relatively inexpensive cue from Amazon because of its good reviews. I don't suppose that it matters really as it is lovely looking straight cue. I'm trying to find out a bit more about the manufacturer but I am struggling and wondered if you knew?

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Allan Jones. I have never heard of him - until now! Check him up on Google. But maybe he wants to keep his operations clandestine!

      The Snooker Gym I think your right lol, I can't find anything on Amazon except for a link to Amazon where I can find the cue.
      apparently it's a Chinese manufacturer. A cue is a cue I suppose, aslong as it's straight and it can make contact with the white that's all I need to know really. thanks anyway!

    hi nic i have some questions regarding soft shots, how do we apply this technique into playing softer touch shots with this method? Best regards:)

    • @stuartmitchell3236
      @stuartmitchell3236 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bryan Lim one method i was always told regarding softer shots move your bridge hand closer to the cue tip, that way when you draw the cue back you are limited how far you can draw it back which reduces the chances of overhitting a softer shot.

    • @crokodile5725
      @crokodile5725 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Stuart Mitchell also your bridge hand should have 7 points touching the table all fingers and 2 back parts of the palm + have your bridge hand close to the ball and move it flat/and up to get more reaction

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shorten the backswing - this way you can still accelerate...

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be careful about shortening bridge as it can makes us snatch and reduce aiming ability

  • @sidhaughty
    @sidhaughty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Nic a quick question, while controlling the backswing n the first cm of the followthrough, does the TENSION in the arm n the grip increase?

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would leave this to the arm itself to decide. The mantra would be keep the grip pressure the same at all times during the cueing and backswing phases... you can test which pressure gives you best results by trying different pressures for say five minutes each. Most players will subconsciously tighten when they deliver, if anything to stop the cue flying out of the hand. But bigger problems, eg over tightening and twisting the cue / pulling it off line, arise when we try to consciously do so.

      @@TheSnookerGym you are just awesome nic! Top notch sense of humor! with the cue flying out and smashing into the cuition in your video on tip and slide. On pressure, thats exactly what i was doing all day yesterday, trying out different pressures, steve davis n barton advice for about 40% pressure but with me, when it starts to slide slightly while feathering swiftly, is when it cues the straightest quite strange but thats what worked for me. Many thanks for the reply ! Cheers!

    Nice vid.. what does de accelerating mean and why is it so bad

    • @TheSnookerGym
      @TheSnookerGym  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve - it means 'quitting' the acceleration on delivery and slowing the cue down. It means you will miss hit the shot and lose position. The lack of standard delivery will also often result in pulling the cue off line as the cue has more time to express its doubt and do so.
