Offshore Wind in Maine

  • The greatest risk facing our woods, waters, and wildlife is climate change. Our communities are feeling the impact, and we need to reduce our reliance on oil and gas. Offshore wind is a game changer to help speed up that transition.
Today, the State of Maine announced Sears Island as the preferred site for an offshore wind port, and the selection was made after more than a year of listening to and learning from the local community, environmental organizations, labor groups, and the Searsport government and residents.
Building a port is a big deal, and we have to do it right - choosing a site that balances our ability to grow this source of renewable energy at the scale we need while minimizing any environmental impacts, and maximizing benefits to the community.
NRCM will continue to work with our partners in wildlife protection, climate action, and organized labor during every step of the process. Together we will push for the responsible development of this critical piece of climate infrastructure for our state.

I’m ashamed that NRCM is supporting and promoting this.
