    My Aunt gave me a start of hers in 2016.
    2 starts about 18" each ..
    She lives in Ohio... Hers was kept inside & was about 7' tall.
    I brought my 2 starts here to south Louisiana.
    By 2020 they were about 10' tall.
    I decided to plant them in the ground.
    5 months later, I have 5 flowers getting ready to bloom...
    Super excited 😁

    Got a peruvian apple cactus and a prickly pear cactus growing next to each other in our mobile home park. I pick and eat the fruits whenever I get the chance, they're juicy and delicious. The prickly pear seems to get a lot more fruit though, we might not have enough night pollinators for the peruvian apple so I'm guessing it needs pollinated by hand. Usually at most I get about 10 fruits off it over the span of a few months. it has many arms on it and is almost 20 feet tall, gets a lot of beautiful flowers to open up at night. ^w^

      I've ordered one online and waiting for it to come.
      From what I was reading is they produce more fruit when cross pollinated so it's better to have two, also apparently better to have different varieties like when growing apples.
      This is only what I've read.

    I have my prickly cactus, just got the apple pear cactus, and dragon fruit cactus. Next is the blue candle cactus. Fruit baring cactus are very low maintenance 💖

    I’ve got one of these that I need to chop up ( growing into the roof ). I plan on propagating etc. the fruits on mine are pretty small ( it’s been living on nothing but neglect and now it’s ours ). Any word on nutrition for this to get good growth and big fruit?

    My neighbor here in SD has one over 30 feet tall with a narly woody trunk. I will post a video of it soon. I wonder what is the biggest one in California? I think I read once that folks use the inside of the stems as a soap substitute.

      There are a few videos of the tall one in India. It’s supported by a building and additional scaffolding and has it’s branches cut off to promote continuous growth in the one stem. It is amazing that the plant can bring water up so high to the actively growing green tissues over 100 feet high. I wonder if it absorbs moisture through it’s epidermis?

    Our cactus has had about 50 blooms. They all fell off after blooming. We see lots of bees on the flowers. Last year we had the fruit. Will the fruit come out where the flowers fell off or will those not be giving fruit? Thanks.

    I think they gotta be that hot pink to be ripe. The ones that were a bit darker that you pulled and were also hard to pull weren’t ripe yet

      It will grow in accordance with the size of the pot. It will grow very tall if planted directly in the soil outside.

      Yup and the blooms 1:15 resemble dragon fruit too, closely related no doubt. But I've found dragon fruit a challenge to grow or at least to grow very fast.

    Are they really spineless?
    What I do know is that the one that has spines is Cereus hildmannianus also known as Common Cereus
    A real Peruvian apple cactus has no spines whatever.

    • @kekegenkamaru
      @kekegenkamaru 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Probably a late reply, but you need another cactus of the same species (not a cutting of the same plant) to cross pollinate it, then it will grow fruit. These are not self-fertile.

    • @jessieledesma246
      @jessieledesma246 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin, I have same situation a lot of flowers but not fruit. My neighbor has a plant (same as mine) can I get polen from his plant and do pollinate my cactus?

  • @Marioscorneraquatics
    @Marioscorneraquatics 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So that's what that is. My neighbors have one and they let the fruit go to waste every year. I didn't know they were edible. I'll be sure to take a few next year
