"This is about being a teenager, and doing too many drugs in a punk house, and calling your mom and telling her you don't want to do it many anymore."
The energy that is Willi Carlisle is wild and one can almost say unreal. The amount of force he puts into each performance is present in this film and we commend WC for always brining his best to all our shoots.
Folk Alliance 2020 was a wild time. We were warned of it's nature and felt the overwhelmed by the amount of music. With Covid happening and most music treating from our regular weekly schedule, we were happy to get this video before the world went to shit. It's been an honor to get to know WC over the years, and we find him to be a corner stone of our channel. Love ya bud. Keep truck'n

Hey friends, Willi here. Thanks to all who asked for the chords to this song. I hope you play it in good health for your pals and lovers.
It's a true story, so I'm really glad folks are connecting with it enough to play it. Don't be strangers, y'all, and stay western AF in yer way. See ya down the line.
    the chords...
    Cheap Cocaine
    G C G
Eight miles out of Galesburg, I'm starin' at the rain,
    G D G
Eight-ball left of the cheap cocaine,
    G C G
And I'm lookin' at the sunlight, light through the pines:
    G D G
Couldn't tell ya what it is, but it's always been mine.
    G C G
Now that I'm gone I think of the man
    G D G
With a meth pipe clutched in his bone-thin hand,
    G C G
I said, hey brother, I hope you get straight
    G D G
But I bet I don't meet him at the pearly gates.
    Chorus:
    G Bm
I sing: Hey mamma I been starin' at the rain,
    C D G
A little heartbreak, a little soul pain,
    G Bm
I been up all night on the cheap cocaine,
    C D G
Tryna make it better but it's always the same.
    G C G
Well I made a few new friends in a Rockford bar,
    G D G
I told 'em all lies, I said I was in charge
    G C G
Of the afterparty, where the gals would be loose,
    G D G
I partied with the metalheads with gin and juice.
    G C G
Hung over as hell, I slept in shit on the lawn,
    G D G
I'm tired of twenty-somethins and their punkrock songs.
    G C G
Wake up in the mornin' and stumble towards the down,
    G D G
sayin' 'how ya doin, boy, it's been too long."
    Chorus:
    G Bm
I sing: Hey mamma I been starin' at the rain,
    C D G
A little heartbreak, a little soul pain,
    G Bm
I been up all night on the cheap cocaine,
    C D G
Tryna make it better but it's always the same.
    G C G
On the streets of Chicago with sidekick Sally
    G D G
I was hittin' up the bars on Viagra Alley
    G C G
Where the men pick up women not half their age.
    G D G
All I had for them was my tears and my rage.
    G C G
And I thought it was a fight, so I went for my knife,
    G D G
And the man shook my hand with his kids and his wife.
    G C G
And I was so ashamed that I hung back and cried,
    G C G
Leave all that to Saint Peter, wait till I die.
    Chorus:
    G Bm
I sing: Hey mamma I been starin' at the rain,
    C D G
A little heartbreak, a little soul pain,
    G Bm
I been up all night on the cheap cocaine,
    C D G
Tryna make it better but it's always the same.
    Ending:
    G Bm
I been up all night, I been starin' at the sky,
    C D G
And I’m so lonely, but I couldn't tell you why.

We all ended up in the pit for the same reasons, trying to release our anger and rage. Some of us made it out, after realizing what came with the downward spiral of that circle dance. I appreciate your fighting through, and I'm thankful that you made it out.

"Trying to make it better, but it's always the same." Possibly some of the most beautiful and true lyrics ever sung. I'm from Crystal Lake, 45 mins east of Rockford, been to punk squats in Rockford. You are a gem my man just found you today and I've probably listened to this song 20 times. Simply amazing.

This song is somethin' else. I typically don't care for harmonica but this song throws such harsh (in a good way) vibes on the road to recovery and growin' up that I smashed that like button and hit replay a second time.
