  • The Wheel of Time is a book series by Robert Jordan and recently has been made into a hit TV-Show. The Wheel of Time show has made people asking questions about different aspects of the lore of the world, magic, and the characters. There have a lot of questions regarding the mysteries of the Aes Sedai in the Wheel of Time, and that of their Waders. The Warders are protector to the Aes Sedai and are enhanced through the Warder Bond. The Warder Bond helps the Warder fight and heal. The Warder bond also helps the Aes Sedai and Warder know where each other are. The Warder Bond is a special and powerful connection and there is not anything quite like it. In this video we talk all about the Warder Bond.
The Warder Bond is a unique connection that a warder has with their Aes Sedai. Think Lan and Moiraine. The Aes Sedai are the primary female magic users in the Wheel of Time series. They train in the White tower and when they become full sisters and go out into the world they can make a special bond with a man when he becomes her warder. A warder is primarily a protector for the Aes Sedai but also a traveling companion.
The Aes Sedai are also bound to the three oaths: To speak no word that is not true. To make no weapon with which one man may kill another. Never to use the One Power as a weapon except against Darkfriends or Shadowspawn, or in the last extreme defense of her life, the life of her Warder, or another Aes Sedai. But the warder is not bound by any oath. So they can accomplish this for their Aes Sedai that She could not do for herself.
Not every Aes Sedai choose to have a warder bond. Red Ajah Aes Sedai Never Do, Where Green Aes Sedai, also known as that Battle Ajah, are known to have multiple Warders, The green ajah are also know to be lovers and even marry their warders. Blue Ajah Aes Sedai, like Moraine, commonly have a warder, but only one. For most of the other Ajahs it is mixed with some women choosing to have warders and others choosing not to.
The Warder Bond itself is created by using the the one power, The Aes Sedai channels and creates a connection with themselves and the Warder. From that moment on The Aes Sedai and the warder will be able to know where the other one is, they will be able to feel the emotions of the other person, this is especially valuable when one is hurt or in trouble because the other can feel it and can quickly come to their aid.
The warder gains a few other things through the bond, they are slightly stronger and can heal a little bit more quickly, ultimately they are better warriors than regular men. The Aes Sedai get a companion and protector, someone who doesn’t have to keep the three oaths, and though it ir rarely used and seen in bad taste, an Aes Sedai can use the warder bond to compel their warder to do something.
In the books a warder can be identified by their cloaks that were made for the warder using a special material fashioned by the one power. These cloaks are color-shifting and can help time stay hidden better when the occasion calls for stealth.
Technically an Aes Sedai could claim any man to be her Warder but it is almost always done with the man’s permission as bonding a man without their permission is seen to be extremely wrong, and the Aes Sedai who would do that would find extreme punishment by the White Tower when that would be found out.
Though some like many of the Green Aes Sedai have physical and romantic relationships with their warders, most generally do not. They have all be it a very close relationship, a platonic relationship, build on common goals that is nurtured by the warder bond.
The Warders lives essentially are directed and focused around the goals and missions of the Aes Sedai they serve, though their lives are less their own than before they often find satisfaction and meaning in assisting their Aes Sedai as they guide and protect the world.

That is a fantastic question and honestly I haven’t heard anything from interviews about the inspiration behind that story element. That would be interesting to learn about. I’ll have to look into it more

I watched the 4th episode and it was confusing especially since that 1 lady had 2 warders and they were laughing about it like they have 3somes or something 🤷‍♀️🤣. It was confusing that scene where they were talking around the fire.
