Really appreciate these types of videos. I usually love getting into the history and learning as much as possible early on in these types of books. But since I’m not finished with the series yet, it is impossible to find spoiler free material! Love it! Keep it coming!
i know Im randomly asking but does any of you know a way to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Jesse Duncan i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jesse Duncan WTF IT REALLY WORKED! I just got access to my Instagram password after about 30 mins of using the site. Thanks so much you really help me out !
Legit one of the best Youtbue intros I've seen recently. Thank you for keeping it spoiler free. While I *HAVE* traveled through the books once before, it has been many, many years. And one bonus benefit of aging and forgetfulness: it's like reading it for the FIRST TIME again. Haha!
Wow, great video. Great content and a perfect video to explain the Aes Sedai. You were great on The Dusty Wheel also. Keep putting this stuff out, and I'm going to keep watching.
Thanks for this bit of history. You don't get a clear explanation from reading the books, it is scattered throughout. Much appreciated this cohesive detailing
Im sure youve heard it before... but I personally pronounce them Sigh-dar and sigh-deen. Great video ive been wanting a deep dive into the aes sedai for a while now... actually asked all the WOT tubers to do one and you are the only one who came thru ... You rock bro
Saidar (pronounced: sah-ih-DAHR) - is the correct pronunciation according to the books and the wiki. The audiobooks are correct about 90% of the time - really good considering that Jordan rarely helped the narrators out.
I was finally able to find time to watch this and I have to say I'm blown away by the amount of research you did for this video! Amazing job! Where did you get all the awesome artwork?
One thing you didn't mention about the effects of the oath rod is that it greatly shortens their life span, though they will still live longer than normal folks. A channeler that hasn't taken the oaths on the oath rod will live much longer, but not gain the "ageless" quality.
I have recently read about this (book 3-5 somewhere). I cannot find it now, but at the time I remember it not being a hard limit, but rather a conventional one. That a green could have as many as she wanted but because of the weaving required and the stresses it caused upon her she generally ended around 4. I kind of view it how women generally will not have more than 4 children. A few have had a dozen or more children but most generally stop at 2 or 3 or 4. I don't recall if the books detail how each Warder is felt by the aes sedai. It might be that if one gets injured, stunned, crippled, or knocked out she is unable to tell which has been afflicted and a physical observation must be made. Basically that all the info comes in at the same time without any reference to which Warder it is from. They also do talk a lot about how losing a single Warder is a significant loss to the aes sedai. Much like losing a young child. Multiply that by 5 or more all at once and she'd probably off herself right there. (Saving Private Ryan comes to mind).
SPOILER: Every Aes Sedai, 100% of them, is Black Ajah. Their limited connections don't allow them to know more than a few other black ajah so they are constantly paranoid of being found out by the hundreds of others. The oath rod doesn't work for them - or anyone, it's just a fancy stick - but they still twist truth as if it does and avoid talking openly about the black ajah. They go through the motions of their other ajah in order to deny suspicions. Okay maybe it's not a spoiler. I'm only on book 7 out of 13 so I really don't know, but this sounds like a really funny trick to pull on the readers.
I always perceived the Red Ajah as dedicated to *preventing* another Breaking of the World. I'm not sure if I read it somewhere in the books or drew that conclusion from PoV of characters in the later books.
The Age of Legends was more than one millennium before the storyline in WoT. A millennium is a period of 1000 years. I believe there was close to 1,000 years between the end of Age of Legends and the Trolloc Wars. Then there was another 1,000 years between the end of the Trolloc Wars and Heartwing's time. Finally, there was about 1,000 years between end of Hawkwing and current time
It is said many times in the books that the Age of Legends was over 3000 years ago. The Ages are not exact like our millenia (1000 years) but are more determined by events. I believe that Robert Jordan himself said in an interview that we, the readers, are in the first age, age of legends is the second and the world we read about is in the third. Many of the prophetic quotes at the beginnings and endings of the books are written in the fourth age. What occurs or happens in the fifth, sixth or seventh are unknown as the viewpoint we're given is from the third.
Q: not sure how they will tackle agelessness? A: Botox 🤣 Also the Red Ajah devotes themselves to preventing another Breaking of the World, and they do this by hunting down men who can channel. This is why the Red had such a hard time with the Dragon Reborn because not only is he a man who can channel, he is actually prophesied to break the world.
I did not realize a woman could join more than one Ajah (I do not mean the potential to choose Black Ajah). In the video you said could choose at least one Ajah. Who choose more than one. Leanne does not count as her stilling removed her as an Aes Sedai. She and Siuan had to ask to be taken into an Ajah
Yuk. What Lews Therin did to save the world is really, really, really being misrepresented in a huge way. He did his best - it's other people who doomed his effort. Remember the original plan? Remember who pulled out? Remember who doomed the male Aes Sedai? Spoiler: it's basically the same group who purged (murdered) female channelers who did not want to be a part of their team. The same group who has trust issues, in the sense that people do not trust them. Wonder why.
Why can't men and women channel from the same source? This is sexism! You are saying that women are inferior to men! And when women tried to be equal, they screwed up, and opened the gates of evil. I don't know how this series can be so successful.
The Aes Sedai do not know what the arches are supposed to do. They say many times in the books that they don't know what the original uses of the terrangreal were. They are using them for their purpose which it seems to work for, but they do not know if that was the intended use of the terrangreal. You see this a couple time in the book where the terrangreal do not work as anticipated during tests. The Black Ajah exists, it is confirms in the books as well as in the prequel. It is just not information that is pass along to everyone.
There are channelers amongst the Aiel and the Sea Folk who never train in the White Tower. Additionally, a small number of Novice and Accepted runaways successfully join the Kin. All of these women continue to be able to channel for as long as they live, but they age normally. It is only the Sea Sedai who have sworn the Three Oaths on the Oath Rod that acquire the ageless face.
Agelessness is not a by-product of the oath or the one power. At least not directly. It is a trick taught by aes sedai to aes sedai. It uses the one power to function and is only taught to those who have sworn the oaths, but it is not an automatic result of either of them.

Reading The Pattern has some spoiler free WoT videos. :)

That is also the Audible pronunciation.
@@cleo5401 Yes it is.. but I dont see how SAIDAR is pronounced Sigh-i-dar
Just SIGH-Dar
Saidar (pronounced: sah-ih-DAHR) - is the correct pronunciation according to the books and the wiki. The audiobooks are correct about 90% of the time - really good considering that Jordan rarely helped the narrators out.
would have taken me about 5 beers to get through that script, love the amount of work you put into this
I appreciate it!
Excellent video! Love all the artwork. Did not realize chora trees were constructs
Thanks for this awesome video I am a " novice" in the WOT series, so far I have read The Eye of the World so this video was very informative.
Welcome to the fandom!!!!
@@WoTUp Thanks!
This channel is going to blow up soon. Subbing!
Thank you! I'm having a blast with this, and all I hope is that people like it as much as I do!
This is amazing. Great job!
Ty!
I was finally able to find time to watch this and I have to say I'm blown away by the amount of research you did for this video! Amazing job! Where did you get all the awesome artwork?
A whole lot of very talented artists. They are all credited in the description box.
And thank you! This one took a lot longer than my regular videos to prepare and film :) A WHOLE lot longer lol
Nitpick: The third oath also allows the use of the One Power as a weapon against darkfriends.
Well done video! Keep up the good work :-)

Best WoT channel out there. Thumbs up, and +1 subscription.
I appreciate it!!!
Can you make a video on all the races of people that inhabit the world in the wheel of time
What support was there for 12 original ajahs? I never heard that before.
Thank you!
Well done !
The three downvotes are people who have been stilled/gentled :P
I thought I read that traditionally, a Green would not publicly bond more than 4 Warders at a time? Am I mistaken?
Out of curiosity, where did you read that information? I couldn't find any limits in my research. ✌
I have recently read about this (book 3-5 somewhere). I cannot find it now, but at the time I remember it not being a hard limit, but rather a conventional one. Pronunciations my dude, I love you
This is great! I even learned some things too 😊
Very informative video
A slight mistake. Not all the 100 Companions went crazy when the Dark One tainted Saidin. Only about 60. The rest had died during the stirke.
SPOILER:

No sorry :( hate to burst your bubble. Would have made for a cool mirror world though!!

It was about 3500 years, based on calendars

The Mistress of Novices also governs Accepted.

Ishmael escaped his prison about once every thousand years and was out twice before the events of the series (Trolloc Wars) and Hawkwing's time
Is there no white akah?

I really wanted the aes sedai symbol to be a yin yang...I always thought of it like that and thought it was the perfect representation.
I did not realize a woman could join more than one Ajah (I do not mean the potential to choose Black Ajah). In the video you said could choose at least one Ajah. Who choose more than one. If he says ya know 1 more time... Shiiiit...
Any reason you pronounce things so different than Mike/Kate? Neither here nor there, just super jarring.
Read the books.
Ageless faces. How will they tackle that in the show (TV serial) ?
Hmm? ... with a lot of make-up ???
they all have to join an Ajah
Our they just cast younger actresses. Just cause the character is 120 doesn't mean the actress has to be.
Age of legends = star trek TNG
Then "Picard" will (?) become thery interesting. 😆 (sorry, no native speaker )
If you control normal and dark matter magic is magic anymore
Agelessness comes from using the one power not from the oaths they swear.
Edward Simpson, the channelers who did not take the oaths age very slowly but never get the 'ageless' look.
Agelessness is not a by-product of the oath or the one power. At least not directly. It is a trick taught by aes sedai to aes sedai. It uses the one power to function and is only taught to those who have sworn the oaths, but it is not an automatic result of either of them.
Zero Aes Sedai, zero, are kind. 100% of them are cruel, harsh, and only care about their own goals. period.
