    Great tips, I also like the hard surface backsplash going all the way up the wall.

    Super tips, Ashley! I will watch this video over and over again, until I have memorized all your tips in my mind. I like especially the tip to draw the backsplash to the ceiling, which is a really elevating way for the kitchen, for example if you use marble or ceramics. The other super tip is the functionality of your kitchen solutions. Everything has to work for you, otherwise you‘ll get annoyed every day.

    When we redesigned our kitchen 5 years ago we included a bin drawer for recycling, compost and rubbish disposal. We included large drawers for more efficient storage and incorporated separate areas for baking, food prep, etc. We made the peninsular island wider to increase the way in and it means I can use it as a buffet area for hosting.
    Loved your tips.

    Ashley, #8, Soft furnishings, it is nice to make a place for yourself, enjoying tea or coffee (quiet moment). #9 Art work & unexpected lighting! I designed my new kitchen out of all the things that did not work from previous kitchens. Thank you so much for spending the time to create this video, it is just lovely.

    My favourite tip was the countertop continuing to the backsplash. I am having a new home built and this is something I am definitely going to incorporate into my new kitchen.

    Wonderful tips! Thank you. FWIW, I found that when I went to upgrade my everyday objects, I was able to use several "entertaining" objects that I'd been saving for holidays (china pitcher, silver bowl, etc.).

    I think this is totally one of my favorite videos, for sure. I gutted my (new to me) kitchen 9 years ago and while I still love it and it doesn’t look dated at all, there are a few things I wish were more ‘in style’ - for lack of a better way of putting it - then. I would have done cabinets down to the counter, for sure bronze cabinet knobs and pulls or black. I may change that, but I did buy quality hardware. Also, I would incorporate the countertop up the wall as a backsplash vs tile.
    This was a wealth of info, and as a new designer these tips are golden 💛✨

    This was good, Ashley. I'm about to change my kitchen cabinet hardware from polished nickel to matte black iron and I was glad for the reminder to opt for quality knobs and pulls. There are some inexpensive choices out there that look okay, but I know I'll be much happier in the long run with substantial, quality- material hardware. Thanks again.

    I’m Putting together a little kitchen of my own. It’s so very small and I wish I could incorporate all that. I’ve seen here on this video. However, it’s not going to be possible. Looking and listening to your suggestions help me navigate my choices in a small scale kitchen. Utilizing every square inch is going to be paramount.

    On the plus side, I have lots of wall space for art! I live in a historic town, and I was able to put large, metal pictures of the town as a backsplash, because we don’t have one.
    The cream upper cabinets and walls, with the black lowers, are broken up with the black and white photos of the town in the middle. It looks so cool! I wish I did this sooner.

    Great timing! I’m in the process of painting my lower kitchen cabinets a high gloss Carbon black. It’s an amazing transformation! But I was wondering what else I can do to take it to the next level - as a renter. So this is perfect! 😍🤩

    My favorite tip was getting organized! 😂
    I already mentioned that I’m painting the cabinets. However, it doesn’t do anything to improve the functionality of them. Whoever designed this kitchen originally, thought it would be a great idea to limit most of the openings in the cabinets to 9x9 inches, and to have a bunch of them! We have 26 cabinet doors. And they are all tall, skinny and tiny! The drawers are 3 inches deep and 7 inches wide. And there’s 11 identical drawers. It’s so dysfunctional.
    So, I’ve been avoiding getting organized. Mainly because I just don’t know what to do with all that unusable space. I actually had to take over the coat closet in the kitchen (don’t ask) and use it as an alternate pantry, building out shelves in there, just for some practical storage.
    I’ve attempted to reimagine the space several times. Because the storage is so small, everything ends up on the counter. 🙄There’s one other tall, skinny space off to the far corner that was supposed to be an appliance cupboard, so it has more room. But I’ve been putting off reorganizing it out of sheer frustration with the storage situation, as a whole. And as a renter, I don’t know how much I’m willing to spend to improve things, or attempt at organizing it.
    However, this video has given me a push to do that, especially after all the painting I’ve done to improve the look in there. Thanks!

    My tip - I am using the top half of an armoire with a custom base cabinet of drawers. Mounting it on heavy heavy duty drawer slide so the entire unit appears built in but pulls forward accessing a hidden room( former laundry room) once inside it bolts and locks in place so it cannot be moved.

    I want to raise the counter tops 2". Im going to put a second swing out top under the main stationary one. I have a small galley kitchen.

    • @ashleychilders
      @ashleychilders  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Countertop height is such a personal decision!! Our clients want them anywhere from 36”-40”…. Such a big range. It’s all about ease of use and what works for your height. I love the idea of a swing out top! So functional and space saving!

    • @vickigonya9432
      @vickigonya9432 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ashleychilders yes!! I'm doing a 1 " solid surface quartz remnant under there and it has the wood like the lower cabinets attached to cover the gap. Lighter than 3 cm granite. I also pulled the lower cabs forward flush with the fridge, so they are 30" deep tops on both sides.
